Great instructional video! Can the Drolo side listen and play back instantaneously without recording a piece? Or do you have to record something manually in order to make use of it?
@loopop
@loopop 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If I understand your question... Drolo is always recording in the background, so you don't need to do anything, just hit the stomp when you want to use whatever was just recorded (based on the current size of the Drolo buffer), and it immediately plays it back.
@abbenilsson
@abbenilsson 5 жыл бұрын
loopop Thanks. But you couldn’t use it similarly like ex Pladask Fabrikat, meaning it could work kind of like a stretch delay of sorts... Always listening AND playing back your input, without having to record something manually?
@loopop
@loopop 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with that pedal (looks interesting!) but no, on the Drolo side you're either listening or playback. The left/OBNE side however does both listen and play back - if anything perhaps the Slip algorithm gives you what you're looking for - not sure - take a listen to that part of the video

Looking for a pitch shifter : would you pick the mood or the meris hedra?
@ckrug32
@ckrug32 4 жыл бұрын
Kunchang Lee the Hedra is primarily a pitch shifter, that also has delay. The Hedra gives you exponentially more control over pitch shifting, but not so much with the delay. The Mood is primarily a micro-looper + spatial fx (reverb, delay, etc.), which also has some pitch shifting. I demoed both the Hedra and the Mood in my local shop and loved both but ended up taking home the Mood. I play ambient music and the Mood is perfect for making textural layers. I plan on getting a Hedra at some point too. I would say go for a Hedra if you primarily want pitch shifting. It was a bit intimidating for me since my music theory knowledge isn’t great, but I bet it would teach me a lot about theory after using it more. Hope this helps!

@pepejul

I bought it about 3 months ago and tried really hard to like it. While there was a few happy moments, I spent most of the time trying to find a sweet spot and when I found something nice it quickly got repetitive and then had to try again to find a different sweet spot, and repeat. I'm not saying it's not a nice pedal but it's not for me because when using it, it was impossible to include it with other instruments in a coherent ensemble or to even use it in a subtle way. I think it may be more for someone enjoying turning knobs really slowly to discover unique soundscape with a single instrument. Also the lack of sync makes the internal clock almost impossible to pair with other clocks, and the pitch control is too restrictive, you can only change in the order and the tones already programed in the pedal.
@pongtrometer
@pongtrometer 3 жыл бұрын
Yes great point, a playable clock would be great... I hope this can implemented as an update. Though I also like non stepped quantised stuff as well , I though slip mode would be about that in an analog tape way...Great overview as usual. Got me in the MOOD for loop mangling.

@@loopop OK make it like this and be smart. Have a couple of buttons define the buttons as momentary switch. Give each button the correct value for the appropiate tempo. It worked for me on the microfreak, "playing" the sync tempo

I'm having a really hard time understanding how this pedal works! If I were to use software to emulate this pedal, which VSTs would I need?? I think I'd rather have the pedal than the software, but I just want to get a breakdown into VSTs as to what this thing is doing. This is one of the more interesting pedals I've seen in a long time & I can definitely feel the tug in my wallet happening...

So many of these granular effect pedals popping up lately... I feel like they're all still lacking something. In this case (and most others too), it being mono is the deal breaker for me. Most of these pedals also seem to lack focus, like they've just crammed in as much features as possible, instead of grouping some parameters into one knob, and/or come up with a limited, well thought-out combination of controls. Or a larger form factor, or even having some controls available over midi only! There's a lot of competition in this segment though, so I'm sure someone will eventually come up with something more optimised (and mostly more suitable for synths). Now is just not the time to buy one of these pedals imo.

I completely agree. With one exception.....maybe. Tensor. It still maybe needs stereo. Although it doesn't bother me that its missing. And also maybe longer loop times. But thats not really the point of the pedal sooooo
@eternalvoid2678
@eternalvoid2678 5 жыл бұрын
@@nathanricker1 Yeah, still mono and no midi, otherwise it seems well executed. I'd typically use a pedal like this on a send of my mixer... which is stereo, or after some other fx... which are also stereo. Besides, there's so much cool stuff you can do with panning in granular synthesis that it's a huge waste to do it in mono. The pedal in this video also has a delay/reverb, mono reverb is a no go for me. Modular (eurorack, modules like Morphagene, Nebulae, etc.) is also just too far ahead to seriously consider any of these pedals.

I have no problem running the CBA stuff in mono ahead of all my other stereo pedals. Sure it'd be better in stereo, and I used to bemoan the lack of - however I'm a happy CBA convert with 5 of their pedals now. Its also forced me to be more creative in how to deal with carving stereo space after the CBA line. I enjoy using a SupaTrem2 after CBA stuff if I don't want any further effects. It pulses as slow as 6 seconds with two independent trems for plenty of stereo field. It's also fun to go full wet and carve space aggressively all the way up to the hummingbird fast stereo term that it can do. Usually I;m running stereo delays and reverbs after mostly though. No love lost is all I'm trying to say from a used to be be-moaner if that helps anyone get past the mono thing.

I have both, for me it's definitely Zoia, endless possibilities. Mood is more a love or hate pedal and sadly, after multiple attempts at liking it, I must say that I belong in the latter :(

The sad thing about those amazing effects pedals is that they are so immensely expensive (probably worth the price, still can't afford...). Does anybody know about nice (cheaper yet good) VST effects which create comparable effects?
@LondraCalibro9
@LondraCalibro9 Жыл бұрын
yup.....the price tag is definitely a con - but its one of their cheaper chase bliss pedals! unfiltered audio have some cool stuff you may like that has a similar vibe - sandman pro was cool. someone else may have something more closer to the mood, but i really enjoyed this plugin.

Iys a pass for me for a couple fo reasons. Firstly i live in the uk and theyve managed to translate 350$ into £350. That is a bad deal. 2nd, no stereo. I can buy a 2nd hand clouds for anout £120 approx or a new mitable beads for £250 .
