I had a loud screeching noise . I replaced the brake pads and calipers. Noise is still there , so I was told it was the hub bearings. Had the hub bearings replaced and the loud screeching and thumping noise is still there . Now he says it's the sway link bushings ! My question is , will bad bushings cause the loud screeching noise and thumping ? In other words , will the bushings also cause a loud screeching noise too ? It's a similiar noise as bad brake pads and it starts screeching after driving for about 10 minutes . I was told it's definitely the sway link bushings causing the loud screeching noise . I have been buying the parts from Amazon myself and have watched him put these parts on so I know he hasn't been ripping me off . I think he just hasn't been diagnosing correctly so he took it to get a second opinion from an even better mechanic and he also says the loud screeching noise is coming from the sway link bushings . My question is this , will the bushings also cause a very loud screeching noise as well as a thumping noise ? I would be extremely grateful for your opinion . Thankyou for your time in making this video .

@@bellabookitty9047 Maybe try the wheel bearing diagnosis video. There is a "shake and spin test" in the video that can help locate noises and loose components on the vehicle. Whenever I am in doubt I always start over again at step one and two of diagnosis. You have completed step one....confirm noise. Step two is isolate and pinpoint the noise. The "shake and spin test" is my go to method and I catch most things. Do a good visual test also. Here is the video. I hope this helps 😃🔧🔧 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJ2alIhorK11jsk

@@bellabookitty9047 I am so sorry I missed your comment. I feel horrible. I try to respond to everyone. Did you find a fix in the last 8 months? My reply would have been that "I have seen a couple pairs of bushings in the past that were lubricated and made awful screeching noise. One set I installed and greased and the other someone else tried the same thing. Those are the only times I have heard noise like that. It was so loud! That is also why I don't recommend lubrication of any kind. They aren't designed for it and they dont need and I learned the hard way myself. All OEM's install them dry at the factory and that should tell you something about future replacements. I still tried it cause I wanted to make them work better. It seems like a good idea to put some lube in them but its a horrible idea and if it happens it is hard to diagnose and the solution is another new set of replacement bushings. The only way to isolate the noise is to have a helper jounce the suspension while i would try to feel the bushing/bar area with my hand when the noise was happening. Then I used a stethoscope to further confirm the noise at that area. It's a very weird noise and unforgettable. Big pain in the butt. I don't know if this is your case but I bet it is. I hope this helps." ...😃🔧

I had already replaced my strut + shock assembly ("speedy strut") due to 85k miles and the noise and it being loose when I shook it so I was a little deflated when the noise didn't go away, so after this video I went to the parts store and grabbed some sway bar links, threw them in, and boom, noise gone! Took it to another garage today and they found the issue straight away. Play in the offside sway bar link. But the noise sounded like it was coming from the driver side so that's why the first garage concentrated on replacing all my suspension on driver side 😠 they didn't put it on a ramp just jumped straight to yep it's your top strut mounts.. it wasn't after all. Great to hear! Links go bad a lot. It could have happened before or after the strut repair, hart to tell. But if it is attached to the strut it could have been damage accidentally during strut replacement, if there was any rust on the threads. With rusty threads it could have possible spun to much while trying to disassemble if it was fighting the tech. I always replace links automatically with struts that have attached links, I learned that one the hard way. Hard to say what happened for you though, just a guess. 😃🔧

It’s interesting that my two cars make rather different noises when their sway bar links go bad. My Mazda CX-9 makes more of a creaking noise whereas my Mazda 3 makes a rattling noise. The first time I heard the rattle I spent a good half hour trying to find what I thought was something rattling in the trunk, but then it dawned on me that it might be the sway bar links and sure enough they were so bad I could move them with barely any force at all.
@EasyFixShaun4 жыл бұрын
I agree, every vehicle is slightly different. But most times it sounds like something is about to fall off the car. Pretty significant noise because the are mounted to the body or substructures underneath. That noise travels directly into the cabin usually 😲

When I go over bumps or make turns, I feel clunking in the rear left of the car. I believe it’s the bushings since we replaced the swaybar links a hot minute ago. It’s not a rattling, but it’s loud and you can occasionally feel it in the floor. More like if I had a bowling ball in the trunk and it’s moving around hitting crap.
@EasyFixShaun4 жыл бұрын
I would look at the bushings and see if they are loose. When they do go bad they sound 10x louder than you would think for a such a small part. If those are ok I would check the rest of the rear suspension and the shocks.

Awsome! The sounds are usually magnified for such small seemingly insignificant parts on the suspension. They connect the suspension to the body of the car or frame, which makes it sound like something is going to fall off the car. Easy diagnosis is to usually wiggle the sway bar and feel for play or looseness. If you find play it is usually the links or bushings that are the cause. Super simple system and repairs typically. 😃🔧

That is a tough one. It’s hard to diagnose any noise without inspecting all of the suspension and steering components under the car. But step one is verifying the noise. If your noise is the same as the video, it is possible you have loose sway bar links or sway bushings. You will want to check those components before you replace them for accurate results 😀

@EasyFixShaun5 жыл бұрын
I wonder what brand links are being used. I would check into that first. Any cheap link usually struggles to last 1-2 years. Usually oem links last the longest, usually 4-10 years depending on brand of car maker. If I can’t get oem Moog brand is my second choice. They are the best currently as far as durability goes. They cost almost double of a cheap link. But I rarely see them fail. If the part quality isn’t the problem you could have other factors causing the problem. Maybe a different mechanic would be an option to try to nail down the problem. 6 repairs in two years is 5 too many in most cases if the correct quality part is used. Just trying to give some ideas. I would look at CV-Axle shafts on your car. Sounds like a text book description of a bad joint on one of the front shafts. Usually that description you gave sends me immediately to replacement of a shaft. I just need to determine which one. It's hard to determine which one to replace most times. If you can't tell by listening to which side is bad , check for torn boots. Torn boots let water in and destroy them. If the boots are ok, I usually just go ahead and replace both. Good luck finding your problem 😃

Had the exact same problem on 2006 Highlander Hybrid only it was a lot quieter and less frequent sound. The mechanic said that the stabilizer link had a loose joint, and he tightened it. The sound is now gone. Does this sound like he did the right thing, is it enough to just tighten the joint?
@EasyFixShaun2 жыл бұрын
Cool! The fastener was most likely just tightened. I have seen that happen many times. Tightening can permanents fix the problem. The joint themselves can not be tightened. They are unserviceable. The fastener takes a lot of abuse and has a lot of pressure on it when bumps and uneven pavement is driven on and they can loose from that sometimes 😃🔧

Technically it is a safety item. They stabilize the vehicle even while driving straight down the road. Some cars will experience a lot of wandering while driving without them or if they are loose. With that in mind, most cars 20 years ago were built with out them in the rear of the vehicle from the factory. I wouldn't drive it technically. You should fix immediately to maximize safety. And are they sure it's safe and they said yes, i rang another garage and asked advice as to are they safe and will it fail mot, they also said no won't fail and yes it will be fine as technically even without them the car will be ok, i thought I was getting fobbed off with the first garage but both said the same, im so worried, are these 2 garages correct? And what do I expect as I have a rattle every roundabout, it's it likely to get really noisy? Over the next 3 and half weeks yet still be ok? To wait until 7th August?

I have seen the fasteners back off and create the noise again many times on new links. Sometimes they have been fine for months before loosening up. So you are on the right path. Double check that. It sounds louder inside the car and does not make a noise when driving straight, just over bumps and especially when turning on uneven/bumpy road. It will also sometimes make a loud popping/clunking noise. The issue started after turning fast and a little rough and then went away for about a week before it came back with the same noise after another fast turn over a bump. Does this issue sound like a sway bar problem or cv axle possibly?

Could be either bad sway bar links and bushings or cv axle. Or it could be both. I would start with shaking the suspension and steering down. Nice work! I have seen that a lot on old caravans. The links were always tight by hand but would make noise anyways while driving. It was a weird problem. I don't see it too much anymore. If struts where replaced, the most likely remaining suspension and steering parts are sway bar links or bushings, tie Rod ends, lower control arms. Completely normal. A lot of times when you find the loose part it’s not on the same side as you think it should be. The noise travels or “drones” through the vehicle sometimes. Plus it is amplified because the links and bushings connect the suspension to the body the car a lot of times. So it’s much louder than it should be. Just replace the bad one or replace them in pairs, however you choose. Test drive your car again to be sure the noise is gone. 😀

I have a loud clunk which only appears on un-even bumps. So only 1 wheel or 1 side of the car hitting it. If both front wheels go over at the same time there is no clunk. It's like a loud popping sort of noise.

@@BlatentlyFakeName I have no experience with that particular manufacturer. So I don't know common causes. I would shake down the rear suspension and see if you can find anything loose. If you find anything obvious I would start replacing those parts first. That should get you headed the right direction 😃🔧🔧

@@EasyFixShaun I had someone walk alongside while I drove it over some bits of wood to make the noise. We are pretty sure it's coming from the front upper suspension area now.

Excellent diagnosis. Now that you have isolated the general area you can hopefully isolate the cause 😀😀

my car make that type of sound when i turn left or right at slow speed. my friend said cv joint, i will replace that and see what happen next. it should be easy to replace

I have a video on cv axle diagnosis. Watch that and see if that video has the noise you have. If no noise load the axle and perform the textbin the video to force the axle to make noise. It does sound like you need a cv axle based on your symptoms.

My 13' Escape titanium has this same sound but only when im on throttle. Even just a tiny bit. When I'm just coasting it's silent. Anyone have any ideas?
@EasyFixShaun5 жыл бұрын
Can you tell if it’s coming from the front or rear? Right or left side? Do you have awd?
@mrirace9265 жыл бұрын
@@EasyFixShaun It's the front right. Fwd with the 2.0 engine. Transmission also shifts hard from 2nd to 3rd. Not sure if that's relevant to this topic.

could be a transmission problem. I believe there is a massive recall on the Focus transmission right now. Fix that first since its covered by ford and cheapest for you.

Sway bar links. Are minor repairs. & there easy to fix. Mine broke on the way home..

My swaybar links in front might be bad on my car. I have a "clonking" sound and i have already replaced shocks, springs and lower control arms.. so there can only be those links or the whole swaybar/bushings that are bad.. dont know of anything else.. i cant see something obvious that is bad when i look under the car. Any guessing ideas what in the suspension components that might be an issue? Car is very unstable on straight roads and also on those unregular stones on some streets in city. My steering wheel turns by itself and i must hold it still. Also the clonking sound is hearable. When i turn my steering wheel mostly all the way left or right the wheels and steering wheels does not return by itself as they do if i turn not that much.. dont know why.. the steering also feels like.. im turning with lots of air in the steering rack but i dont think there is.. very intermitent how the steering/steering wheel feels when both driving and turning when car is ideling on a parking lot for example.

Sway bar bushings and links are high wear items and I would never count them out. They can possibly be the culprit of the noise. I would check them for play. I would also do an alignment if you haven't done that. Sounds like you have some steering and suspension problems and should have that checked immediately. Your car won't adjust and align properly if any component is loose that you may have missed. A good alignment person will spot the loose part right away, let you know what to fix before a proper alignment can be performed. Basically they can't adjust it properly if there are loose parts. Sway bar links and bushing won't cause alignment issues. But lower control arms will. If you replaced the lower control arms, you should do an alignment immediately 😀

@@EasyFixShaun alignment are done twice. One after the control arms and one after shocks and springs. They did not tell me something was wrong. Two car repair shops.
@EasyFixShaun4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for delay. If the alignment is spot on maybe there is still a loose sway bar component. The sway bar parts are the only suspension components that will not affect the alignment adjustments when they wear or get loose. So maybe check those again. Sometimes the mini ball joint style links will not feel loose by hand, but the weight of the vehicle and bumps will still cause noise. After exhausting all other possibilities I have replaced those style links in the past with success. That doesn't happen often, but it does happen occasionally with very difficult problem child vehicles. Maybe you have one of those? Just trying to help here and give ideas. Its so hard to fix over the inter webs 😄

I drove with mechanic and without lifting the car, he told me the thumping noise is coming from the rear shock. I hear the noise in the rear as well and thought it to be sway bar link or bushing, but he told me that these sound different from what he hears on my vehicle. He went on explaining that shock has lost a bit of its spring rate(don't remember exactly) and has a dead spot or not coming backup fast enough. Shocks have over 110K on them, but pushing the rear of the car, does bounce once as it supposed to and car is stable in turns, fast speed cornering or lane change. Could the shock be worn somehow and not show any defect in drive quality, but still make a thumping noise?

Hi. Was the inspection free or did you pay for it? The car steering and suspension needs to be inspected underneath on a hoist to be sure which parts are bad. It’s a big risk to diagnose a car just from a test drive. Step one: test drive a car a verify the noise or problem. Step two: identify related problems causes and concerns. That can only be done but inspecting the vehicle thoroughly. Does that make sense? You need to try to remove any guessing if possible. 😃
@Charkatak4 жыл бұрын
@@EasyFixShaun The driving inspection was free. Basically as I understood, the shocks themselves are in good shape and even though there is a thumping noise heard, he wasn't alarmed by it. I will get a second opinion in another place and see if they will lift the vehicle up. Thanks!

Sounds good. Ya, pay for an inspection and get an estimate for repairs 😀

@@EasyFixShaun Soon, I am planning to remove rear wheel(s) to clean some surface rust on the hubs, rotors, inside of the wheels and will check some suspension components. I was thinking if sway bar bushings or the links are the culprit, I could fix myself. As these don't cost much and easy to repair.(at least looks easy) :)

@@Charkatak Nice! The benefit so to speak with sway bar repairs, usually the parts are some of the economical parts to purchase. So at least if you do try some parts its usually reasonable. 😃
