Ouch! Yes it happens! 330 for links and bushings? Its never fun paying for repairs but thats not too horrible. Depending on the cost of parts you could have saved some money for sure. But 330 is ball park. $2000 ☝️is wayy too high (most likely) 😀

The Moog stabilizer end link I replaced 5 years ago in 2018 on the passenger side has started clunking again, while the OEM ones on the driver side is still working fine, 13 years in service. Go figure. Not sure what is causing the passenger side one to keep going so frequently. Is Moog one of the economy brands mentioned that will go on a regular basis? Though it said in the video it would make no real difference, I didn't grease them since installation despite the availability of the zerk fittings. Don't know if it might have helped any if I did grease them periodically.

I really appreciate that he isn't describing the sound, he's showing when it makes the sounds so you can identify the noise it makes when it's that kind of problem. The biggest thing that annoys me about trying to figure out what's wrong with my car is that it can be one noise but different people has different ways of describing it. Thank you for this well made video !! In the list of symptoms you could add also the vibrations when braking. I had problems on my car, while braking I could feel big vibrations in the steering wheel, but I had not other noises. At first I suspected the disc brakes, then the pads, changed everything, still there.... Until one day when driving I heard a big noise while taking a turn. Found out my sway bar link had broken. I did not know what it was until then otherwise I would have checked it sooner ! I have been very lucky as the breaking of the sway bar link didn't damage anything else. After replacing it (and ofc having to saw it on one side, as the boltd was seized....) the vibrations where gone !

Sorry you are having trouble. They are simple parts but can be easily confusing so I tried to help shed some light on them. If yours failed in less than a year, it could be aftermarket parts that were used. I have also seen fasteners loosen and make the noise a short while later that is exactly the same. Doesn't happen often but is worth checking that out. If its aftermarket parts get oem and you will have much better durability 😃🔧

For those dealing with rust, I suggest trying to lubricate the bolts and leave it for a few hours, even overnight. Then try to remove the bolts. Cutting is always risky.

Excellent video - thanks. You've confirmed my suspicions about my problem. Due to illness, i'm no longer able to work on my own vehicle (having done most repairs myself all my life). Last June 2023, i had a new right-hand side front coil spring, top strut mount and drop link fitted to my 2012 Ford Focus by a garage, following my MOT test. In September, having only driven around 300 miles since having the suspension repaired, i had a new washer pump fitted to the same side as it was on its last legs and I noticed that the drive-shaft boot was splitting, so i decided to take it to the same garage to have a new boot or shaft fitted (knowing how hard they can be to get off sometimes) and at the same time i asked to have a new lower swing arm fitted as the ball-joint was ever so slightly worn. Normally, i'd have changed everything on both sides, but money was an issue, so i decided to settle for just the right side for now. What a nightmare. I picked up my car, only to find it was knocking its head off, so i took it back to the garage. They decided the front strut was broken, the 3 month old top mount was destroyed, the new drop link was broken and a 4 month old track rod end was bent (what???? a track rod end bent??, never in my 57 yrs have i seen that). Having had everything replaced again, i reluctantly paid £525 and collected my car. Just 3 months after, it started knocking again and i am reluctant to drive it. I now have to pay again to find out what is causing the knocking, but your video suggests it is the drop link, which has done about 800 miles. It's the last time i take my car to a small garage. Halford's autocentres may be expensive, but they use genuine Ford parts and the work is guaranteed, saving hassle and money in the long term.

Yup oem parts may solve your problem. I have seen similar scenarios so many times. You get what you pay for. I have been there too and tested economy stuff because it looks so similiar and is way cheaper. It seems I get burned more times than not. With oem parts you are done with the problems. Sorry you are having trouble. hang in there 😃🍻

@@EasyFixShaun what type of mount do you use? I’m so blown away by your production value. Haha. But really, strapping a gopro under there while driving. I actually thought of that for diagnosing my issues but only for a second. I will diagnose and shake one the away bar links tomorrow. I just replaced a really bad cv axle drivers side and I put in so much work the last week doing that axle job. It felt perfect for the first 5-10 miles but then started slowly getting vibration and knocking noise. I am really really hoping that it’s these puppies and not my brand new axle(duralast but reviewed well on autozone). I am getting this knocking noise when I start and stop and is kind of a sound like it is occurring as it revolves around the axle but I really hope it’s just these sway bar links. Would make sense though since they have never been changed pretty I’m sure and I’m at 115k 😳. Especially with my previous cv giving a ton of vibration and probably wearing out the sway bar links. So they should probably be replaced anyway. Long comment 😅, but we’ll see tomorrow!

Many of them have a camera angle to where you can't see much of anything. In your video you had many of the parts labeled with editing and everything was very easy to see and understand and was informative. The extra work you put in your video is well worth it because it makes it much better than the majority of videos that are out there. Thanks for the video! I changed my car's 2 front absorbers and bushings yesterday, and the exact same noise in your video is now heard. The mechanic who did the job refused to troubleshoot and kept denying hearing the noise, leaving me to search online for possible causes. Likely it's my car's left front sway bar link, pending on further checks tomorrow. Gonna send to another mechanic to confirm and fix this.
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun Жыл бұрын
No problem. If you have front strut style absorbers, the links are often connected to the struts. They usually get destroyed if the are old removing for struts. No always, but most of the time. If that is your setup, I would recommend replacement of the sway bar links with struts to avoid problems afterwards. Good luck, I am sure you will figure it out with some time 😃🔧

@EasyFixShaun

That might be hard to duplicate while testing, but if you can get the noise to happen every time, you should be able to track it down. You could also start by checking each fastener that was removed and installed to be sure they are all tight. I would check all suspension, steering, brakes, lug-nuts until you find the problem 😀🔧

That was an amazing watch! The quick editing is really entertaining and you always label stuff which is really nice. I'm glad you advocated for OEM parts. I cannot tell you how many cars I've wasted money on not going for OEM parts the first time and having to deal with a noise and problem later on. Plus OEM parts are often quieter the reason being is they use extremely tight tolerances and polymer based bearings for the ball joint in tie rods, sway bar links and suspension ball joints. Plastic transmits a lot less noise than metal based bearings. There are a few aftermarket brands that are okay suck as CTR, but OEM is usually worth it for convenience and reliability.

I took my 2014 Fusion into a shop recently for tire rotation, told them about the clanking noise. I told them I suspected bad strut mounts (because its had those before and the sound was similar). They said not it was not that. They showed me where the right CV axle had a loose bushing, had wallowed out the bracket. I trust these guys. I had them replace all that. It's still making the noise. I can't reproduce it pushing the car down repeatedly. I go over even low bumps and hear it. I thought it might be my hearing aids, amplifying a normal sound. My wife rode in the car today, and she could hear it. It was her car until she got a new one a few months ago.

The "shake and sway test" will help isolate to possible link or bushing failures in situations like yours. If all suspension and steering, and braking components check out and are perfect, usually it's worth a shot to throw some bushings and or links at it. They some times will produce noise even though no play can be felt at the link or bushing with shake testing. If you want to try something even though it could be wrong, a lot of times that will do the trick. If it doesn't you can try the same thing with shocks/struts. Links and bushings are the cheapest so I start there. The best way is to confirm bad parts and replace. But sometimes this happens. Also some vehicles are notorious for no detectable play but clunking 😃

My car is booked in for a pre-holiday service in a few days time as we are going to Scotland (travelling from North London) so a journey of 490miles plus two weeks of driving plus the drive home and was only MOT'd last month (passed no advisories) and then this noise started earlier today (first time I've noticed it anyway) dropped in on my mechanic and he took it out for a spin and said straight away sounds like a link bar, we will sort it when it's in. Just watched this and that clunking noise is absolutely bang on with what I'm hearing. He said it's not expensive probably around £80 or so plus labour which isn't too bad. Great Vid. I confirm your fix. Since we got my wife's 2023 CRV Hybrid Sport in Feb, it kept producing an intermittent/random "clunking" sound that came from beneath the rear luggage area. Wife always thought it's because the stuff she carries in the back moves around. Brought the CRV to Honda dealership where we purchased it from. Culprit was the driver-side anti-sway bar linkage that Honda factory insufficiently torqued...

Very detailed explanation and helped me a lot to figure out the links clunks and noises. Owning 2016 Fusion and changing rear bushes almost as often as engine oil, the quality of bar metal is just bad, for a reason there is aftermarket bars with poly bushes to solve the issue. Having to add a piece of strong rubber to the bush, the bar is getting worn and thinner. the links themselves started making noises at 195.000km, stunning number actually, dont know how they did last so long. will replace them now. thanks.
