This is why the starter is in control of the track and the ambulance has no business being on the track until the starter has deemed it safe. This is not only my opinion, but this is the opinion of many Horsemen and starters that I have known over the years. It is a safety thing. That ambulance is more of a risk than anything while there are horses running around in the track. If they didn’t have an ambulance there, it would take at least five minutes to get it to respond, there’s no reason whatsoever that they need to bring that ambulance onto the track immediately. Those guys were all up and walking around. They were able to get off the track and they should have. They could’ve been treated in the infield or they could’ve waited until the horses were caught. I drove a starting gate at several paramutual tracks and some fairs over the years. The starter I worked with told every ambulance crew before every race card, do not come out onto the track until I tell you it’s OK. I don’t care if 100 people are screaming for you to get on the track you do not come onto this track until I give you the OK. He would then issue them a two-way radio which they could use to communicate directly with him in the starting car. The announcer did a great job, but common sense must prevail, and in this video, this is a prime example as to how not to do things

Appears to me that the trailing horse ran in, and the driver's wheel hit the hubrail. These things happen, but, IMHO, having watched tens of thousands of races, I think the driver could have been more alert going into that tight turn.

I don’t know why these horse events don’t have someone on horseback that can rope, waving at a horse isn’t going to stop them
@dianehunsberger22712 жыл бұрын
A roping horse is going to have to be taught to deal with - not only the horse, but the bike
@Jbmc65 Жыл бұрын
You don’t need to rope them, they are called outriders. And they don’t use ropes. They ride up beside the horse and grab the reins (lines)and bring them to a stop. But this looks like a county fair, it would not have happened if the driver on 7 could have steered the horse going into first turn. If you watch he yanked the horses head right sideways when he entered the turn. I don’t know if he wasn’t steering the horse or could not steer the horse.

@125sloth8 жыл бұрын
Exactly and what a joke. Still using inside running rails, although at some tracks it is hard to remove them but they have marker pegs out from the rail, not like this joke of a place where they still race next to it. plus no outside rail either, where they do need one, at start of straight with no protection for people in stabling area. so what do they think? That no horse could run off track and into people including children? The place is a nightmare waiting to happen and breaches all safety regulations. And the way some of the idiots just ran to the scared horse that was stuck over fence just shows how stupid people who should know better can be. running up to a horse that is stuck on anything can upset it more. it might be a County fair, but that's no excuse for ignoring safety. it all seemed very unprofessional.

Dora Juhasz so if a driver is bleeding to death you think the ambulance should wait the 5 minutes it took to catch the horses . No one was hurt badly but drivers laying on the track have been run over by loose horses . The ambulance can protect them . Most harness tracks don’t allow the ambulance on the track until the loose horses are caught because they don’t want to be liable for repairing the ambulance, drivers be damned .
