@@OhnMarWinArt I totally understand where you’re coming from with your candid comments about IG & all the associated pressures one can feel with it… I’m one of those peeps who can at times get overwhelmed with the whole IG thing, so purposely stay away for a while, but then can spend hours afterwards ‘catching up’ on everything I may have missed! 😵‍💫🥴 I agree with Alexe’s comment above - I too personally enjoy seeing the whole process & taking the time to enjoy what you’ve created! I get excited when I see that you’ve created a new KZbin video! 👏🏻 Don’t ever second guess yourself, your abilities or your art - your style is truly beautiful… otherwise you wouldn’t have been asked to create food labels, artistic designs for other companies etc if it weren’t!! 🍊🍋😻💚🎨🖌️🖋️

I’m so much happier getting a newsletter and seeing your KZbin videos! I hardly go on FB or Insta anymore because it’s just inundated with ads now. And like you, I find that it can add an anxious element to my life and like you, any time I can free up to hang out with my family is priceless. I really just found you, and am enchanted with your art! I’ll be buying your book and I looked on skillshare, and what I really want to learn is how you incorporate your style of ink, which frankly blows me away! I’m so happy your posting more on KZbin. And doing the longer video. I love hearing what your thinking as you painted it. I am so disappointed with IG due to the algorithm. Maybe 40 views when I have 600+ followers. So it is frustrating. I get it

Everything you said makes perfect sense and I'm happy you're taking these steps to improve your mental well-being. I think I've always had a pretty healthy approach to social media, but I do find myself sometimes worrying about reach and views on my work on one hand and the overwhelming amount of quick-changing images bombarding us daily since reels have become mandatory on the other. It's good to get a little perspective. Thank you!

exactly!! instagram used to be my favorite social media app and now it's just so exhausting to keep up with the demand for an algorithm that is so frustrating. I found it effecting my creativity too -- thinking more about what to post/pressure to perform vs just creating naturally. and so true about the "highlight reel" posts!! enjoy your break

Hello Ohnmar. I had to pause this video and post a comment. I soooo agree with you! I post on IG and sometimes I get sooooo frustrated!!!! It really gets me down at times when I compare my stuff to others’ etc. I dare not to take a break tho as I am trying to grow my public and hopefully bring them over to KZbin which I consider as a much more wholesome community. It’s hard for sure. I so much prefer YT when I can actually watch and learn from artists like yourself. It’s not the same over in Ig. Too much pressure in posting reels etc. I was never good at them so that’s out of the window. Wishing you all the best! Keep being amazing as you are x

I’ve really enjoyed your last 2 YT videos. I’m so frustrated with IG. I feel like since reels has become the focus it has turned every post in my feed into a sales pitch. This is not how IG felt before Facebook bought it. As you mentioned stills vs reels is a hard one for many people; both creators and consumers. I find all the IG videos over stimulating. I am in this same place. I haven’t been able to post on Instagram at all. Honestly I just don’t want to anymore. As a small account, I thought my size was the problem but hearing you have the same problem makes me feel like what hope do I have lol. We’ll anyway I loved this video. It really gave me encouragement to keep on the path I’ve set for myself to work harder on my email list, website, Pinterest etc. that’s a goal this year. We’re already in March and I’m nowhere! Need to stop being so demotivated and just have a go.

You are exactly where you are meant to be. IG is not a magic bullet and its even harder these days to see engagement. I use iG stories a s a way to stay in touch right now.

I have never used Instagram, I have only seen it a couple of times but I do have the impression that it can be a hugh pressure. I really love watching quality videos on KZbin and I think your videos are great I have watched quite a few during the last few days and am working through your book with the exercises at first. I have to say you make it look a lot easier than it is but I remember hearing you say that repetition is better than resistance so I'll keep going! Thank you

IG was wonderful platform to just share works in progress or my first attempts at watercolor. But as you said there is now a pressure to make amazing polished pieces and many feel they cannot live up to certain standards. I’m here because I don’t want to ‘filter’ my art or thoughts. Could I ask where you first saw my work ?

@@OhnMarWinArt I found you in a roundabout way, I was looking at Koosje Koene and her art holidays, I saw you as an artist with Blue walks I think, I then searched for you and found your website and KZbin videos. After a few videos I knew I wanted to buy your book. Now that I have seen you on KZbin I can see how much you have there, and it's all great by the way, I wonder why I have never ever seen you on KZbin before, I find it really strange because I look at KZbin artists for at least an hour a day, too long really! Interesting to hear your perspective as an artist. I am just a hobbyist, but I related to a lot that you said. A few months ago, I had my Instagram account suspended due to supposedly doing something that hurt the community. All I could think of was that I looked at a third-party app to see who unfollowed my account. I really try not to focus on numbers of followers, but I noticed some sleazy behavior of people following me only to instantly unfollow me once I followed them back, so I was curious about who was doing that. I couldn’t find anything in Instagram’s community guidelines that made looking at a third-party app against the rules. Maybe I missed it. I was pretty devastated when the account I had put so much passion and energy into was suddenly taken away. I got my account back after two days, but the spell was broken, and I hardly go there or post anymore.

Loving this style of video - process combined with a talk about a current issue facing im sure others too...(almost like a podcast w/process :)). I dont have a large IG account by any means but was struggling with it so took a complete break the past 6 mths - putting a post/story together takes so much time and some days i would get a decent amount of views and some days on stories it was nada!! I was also starting to get pulled into the idea that IG was 'the only' way to share ideas/work as an arists esp digitally and of course there are other ways. IG being a phone based app with genrally a small screen, i was also getting a bit overwhelmed- this small screen was literally throwing tons of content to my head and sort of making me feel unwell as well. Im looking to revive my blog, and from a viewing perspective trying to slow down in how i consume content eg using YT from my laptop and engaging with an artist/channel more mindfully/slow - I have restarted posting a lil on IG but every other day and when theres something im dying to share - love your newsletter and this avenue of thinking/change xx
