Don't hold it against me for not considering a Ryzen 3000 series CPU. I filmed this when people were still speculating they would boost to over 5GHz. And I know, this is by no means a practical system. For those wanting to get into PC gaming and just want to dip your toes in pool, I'll be making a video for a budget 1080p budget PC. Oh, don't forget the timestamps. Parts Breakdown: 0:16 Build Montage: 5:10 Pretentious Galm Shots: 8:08 #vergejoke: 10:15 Issues & Changes: 10:31 Conclusion: 12:52

Upgrading is a myth. It always ends in building a completely new PC.

Yep. Going to be upgrading my editing rig in November. I don't have to, but I mind as well go X599, and then some faster RAM would be nice, and why not jump from a 1080 Ti to a 2080 Ti and a 144Hz ultra-wide monitor. Upgrading is a black hole that just leads to essentially a new system.
@lemmy022
@lemmy022 4 жыл бұрын
I would disagree. I have an X79 system from 2013 that I've upgraded multiple times. First it was the case, then the storage and lastly the GPU. My cpu is still good (i7 3820 @5GHz) and 16GB of RAM was always good enough for my needs. I'll finally replace it with a new SFF system this year. You should always consider your upgrading path, that can make your life so much easier in the future.

Super clean, which gets me pumped for my S1 build, with all parts currently in the mail. It looks like the PSU/mobo side is more "wire-heavy" vs the GPU side about 60/40. Definitley not an issue, but it makes me wonder.....
@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Honestly, none of my cables on the GPU side save for the power cable and where the PCIe power goes over the center divider to plug into the GPU. I loved building in this little thing, and people still don't expect it to be as strong as it is. So... what does it make you wonder?

@@TheGameBench Makes me wonder about cabling, but I suppose custom cables is ultimately the answer
@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 4 жыл бұрын
@@d2ewsky Oh yeah, even though you can't see them, I feel like this case just needs custom length cables. It's so clean that. I feel like the cables really should be too. Even if they aren't sleeved. Just bare wire, cut to length would look good, and be a whole lot easier to manage with those tight bends. If you want to go with some sleeved extensions and you just want to buy a set, I suggest MB Custom Sleeving if you want MDPC-X sleeve. He does impecible work. If you want to go with paracord, I would suggest PSlate Customs.

Building a ghost too right now. But bought a l9x65 instead of c7. Didnt feel like bending a l12s, and hope l9x65 will perform better than c7
@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 5 жыл бұрын
Well, all the testing I've seen shows it being about four to five degrees better than the regular C7, but a lot quieter. Not like the C7 Cu is easy to find right now. The L9x65 is an excellent choice if you're fine with the brown fan. Another option, with a fan change, would be the Scyth Big Surukin 3. It should fit with a change to a Noctua slim fan or Scyth's own super slim fan. Also, it doesn't require low profile memory.

Might be necessary with something with a few larger cards, like the FTW3, but most fit just fine without it.

how did u mount the cosair fan on the c7? did u compare the stock cryorig fan with it too?
@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 5 жыл бұрын
I did some very basic quick tests with the stock C7 fan, and the temps were pretty close, which I expected. However, the ML does is much more quietly. I didn't measure the dB level, but it was much louder to my ears. If you were to use the new Noctua NFA 12x25 it would be even quieter. Here's a link to the bracket I used. It's the 3D printer files needed to print the bracket. I used 3D Hubs to have mine printed. The bracket I used was the offset A/B. They're just mirrors of each other and which one you need depends on your board layout. I printed both in case I need the other one down the road. www.thingiverse.com/thing:2313969

@@TheGameBench i see, thats very interesting. Now I understand why u said the c7 would not have been your first option. i was not expecting a 3D print WOW! you really made it work XD, i would of just gone with a L12s and bent it and call it a day LOL.

@@johnvue1 Yeah, I've considered doing that. The only thing that's holding me back is complete vanity and being able to see the RAM. Though I've been eyeing the Scythe Big Shuriken 3 and maybe have the best of both worlds.

@@johnvue1 It also won't fit in the Ghost because the fan makes it like 1 or 2mm too tall. But using the slim fan on the Big Shuriken 2 would work, or even the slim Notua 120mm.

Mod 1 or pslate cables I’m trying to make a desicion
@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 4 жыл бұрын
Well... if you want to go paracord, pslate is awesome. What I will say about para is that it's much easier to work with in tight areas like this, but it doesn't train well, so you'll have to use combs. For PET sleeve I will always choose MDPC-X, that being said, Mod-One sold out to Titan Rig and they guy who did all their sleeving left and started his own operation called MB Custom Sleeving. I would seriously consider him. He made me an updated cable for the 24-pin that's perfect. Here's a link to his FB page. facebook.com/mbsleeving/

Not that we get to see it in action.. but one can only wonder how this would do with the nh-l9x65 from Noctua
@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 4 жыл бұрын
It would do better. The C7 isn't a great design and the ML 120 doesn't really do anything for temps. The L9x65 would be a little bit better. I believe Loque has even tested. I'm interested to see how the Scythe Big Shuriken 3 would do.

@@zedax1206 Not with the fan that comes with it, but with their slim fan that came on the 2 or Noctua's slim 120mm, it should fit. My problem with the 2, is that it overhangs the RAM. That's what I'm so interested in the 3, since it overhangs the I/O instead.

@@TheGameBench Ah yeah that seems good for getting the 3 to fit. I on the otherhand just ordered the NH-L12S cooler and once I got that I'll just bend it to fit. Im not scared at all about doing this......... I feel very confident about it all.

@@zedax1206 Yeah, I had thought about bending the L12s as well. I have no qualms with bending heat pipes a little. No worries unless you really give the beans and kink or crack one. The only think keeping me from doing it is I don't want to cover the RAM slots.

nice video! Could u tell me the dimensions of the custom cables?
@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 5 жыл бұрын
For sure. The original 24-pin cable was 20cm, the PCIe cables are 30cm each and the EPS (CPU) cable is 25cm. The new 24-pin cable isn't all one length and some wires are shorter than others to account for the bend. If you want I could measure the long and shortest for you, but sleeving... accounting for bends, is best done while you can continually test fit in the case and it's a real PITA. Oh, and thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 5 жыл бұрын
Mason, for some reason it's not showing your other comment. However, I could see what you asked in the notification. The CPU power was just right for me. The PCIe however "might" be able to be shorter. I say that because they could bend right behind the PSU instead of what they do now, which is go towards the front then behind. I'm not worried about it since you can't see that and it's not putting a lot of strain on the cables. It's a really tight bend for PET sleeved cables. If you do paracord sleeve, the bend would be a non issue. The first version of the 24-pin comes down to preference. I thought it looked good as is, but the second version does look better. Custom length to bends looks great, but it take a lot of work to do. Did that with my main rig and it was three times as hard as making a regular sleeved cable.
