Male deities can have tones of sex without being called a "sex god" but a goddess has sex once or twice and BAM, she's a "sex goddess". Great video as always.
@Vicorcivius
@Vicorcivius 4 жыл бұрын
That is just simply untrue, The Majority of "Pagan" Civilizations held female sexuality as sacred and viewed a woman that slept with multiple males and females with more respect then virgin females and males. The priestesses of astarte, ishtar, inanna, aphrodite, qetesh, Which are known as love/lust/sex Goddesses. Were treated with more respect, held in higher regard than the most powerful men of the times. All important high ranking officials in each city were required to have sex with the Goddess Priestess in the temple, Once a Priestess fulfilled her duties to the Goddess she would be sought after by the richest most powerful men who would try to get these women to marry them. In-fact these particular Goddesses were worshipped by men and women alike and the only way for men to experience sacred femininity and properly connect with these Goddesses was to participate in a sexual ritual performed by the priestess of the Goddess. Otherwise you would be unable to. Only women were viewed as able to channel and commune with these Goddesses because of their sacred feminine sexuality. It's just sad that we do not have temples to these Goddesses today with true priestesses.

I love how you talk about this because so many other goddesses are associated with fertility and that is what drew me to her. That she is NOT associated with fertility. I wanted to work with her to fight my fears & empower me in many aspects of my life I needed reassurance on. She has helped me look at things from a different perspective and is very blunt showing me things or giving me answers. (Which I am so honored in receiving clear answers.) I absolutely love watching as learning from your videos! 🙌🏻

It's also a problem not just with what's being written about her but graphic (in both senses of the word) and statuary portrayals. I was recently in a store here in Michigan which is probably the best in the SW part of our state, and the owner, who also happens to be a follower of the Morrigan, was just unpacking that day some new statuary that we felt was finally getting close to being accurate, representative, and respectful of the Morrigan.

Interesting listen. I could never see a connection to fertility. The notion of projection is interesting in my own initial coming to her. I have no doubt my initial draw was as much an attribution error as anything. It is my hope that my understanding will help strengthen the connection I am trying to build. Thank you.

Hello from Oregon! Thank you so much for your comment regarding people projecting aspects onto their dieties that don't necessarily belong there. Very sacred. We are very sexual but it'd not a main trait of hers. More like a test to see if a king is worthy or if he allows the sovereignty of women. She's been helping me clean out the celtic faith and many other faiths that have been overrun. I love her very much. She embedded her energy into my meridians when I was reviving a fairy. She told me to make sure she's OK or else 😀

If we can have Lugus and the Lugoves, or Glanis and the Glanicae, Morrigan and the Morigna, the answer may be both/and not either/or. FWIW, I think it's very interesting that Celtic deities transcend the question of "is so-and-so one or many?"

Quick question: would The Morrigan call someone who does not have Celtic or Irish etc ancestry? In fact, I only have about 1% European in my dna chart (Finnish), though I've always felt an irresistible "pull" to subjects such as Druidry, the Fae, and deities that belong to European pantheons. I ask this question because in our world many like to draw clear lines in the spiritual "sand" in which one cannot cross if they don't check certain boxes. It would be nice to hear your input 😊😁

Hi Laura! I am loving your videos. I began learning about the Morrigan through a course on creative therapeutic process using myth and fairytales. After reading many stories, I have a question on my mind. What happened to her children, the son and daughter she is supposed to have ? I read that her son Mechi was killed by Mac Mecht... so you know where I may find stories on this? Do you believe it's true that she born children?

Lora on your video with Morgan regarding to keep safe whilst working with Irish god/ess. You mentioned in the video (2 hour video) about the Morrigan prefer her dedicants to be monogamous....or was it abstinent? I'll have to listen to the video again it's nice and long but I googled my inquiry to which brought me to this video. I'd like to know your take on that. I'm with the ATC I live near mother church. Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone are priests of ours who live in Ireland. Anyway, I'm going on and on....my actual question is about the Morrigan and her preference on sex with dedicants. I've been abstinent about a year now and am going to dedicate to her. Lots of love Lora. Love from Washington state USA.

I think this is part of the issue in Wiccian communities, depending on the Wiccian person. It drives me nuts, because I am so trying to reconnect with my ancestors belief and I see so much obsession about sex in these communities. The beliefs of some are mixing different Goddess of different cultures together into one like saying Lilith is the Judeo-Christian form of the Morrigan, when most of know she isn't Lilith, she is her own person. This might be where the sex stuff comes from. As for fertility, I think Bridget might be the Irish version, but I highly doubtful she is all about sex too.

Well, Thanks for clearing that up Lora. I Do see allot of videos that talk about the Morrigan being a Goddess of Sex and death. Actually one talks about her being a strong , wild, and sexually free goddess . Saying she seen someone she wanted to have sex with but was rejected , and that she punished him for that ,and he died. Where did storey come from ? One person said the Morrigan asked her to do a video about her "sex goddess" side. So , you're saying there's nothing in the lore that makes her a Goddess of Sex? I will believe you over others, you're the guardian of a sacred site of hers. That's amazing! I would feel honoured doing that. I trust your word above the rest. 🍀🌼😊🌼🍀
@Ogham
@Ogham 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jessy. The video you're talking about is particularly annoying, I must admit, as she is strongly projecting her own port feminism on the Goddess, but then putting her in the role of bitter, jilted lover?! It makes no sense, particularly when you know it's CúChulainn that she is referring to. The Mórrígan was certainly not starry eyed in love with that boy in the lore, it's bizarre to suggest that.

all ancient characters in mythology have a (hidden) meaning about how life is constructed and how you can deal with it. to me the understanding of the metaphores is the most important thing (anything else is rubbish so to say) For me this is the first time I hear about the Morrigan or Irish mythology... in the name it says to me that she is (could be) the Mother (Mor) Ruler (Rigan, Reign) I read in the wiki in my language (Dutch) that she probably is the same as Lilith. To me this makes sense, Lilith is to me the same character as Delilah (from the Samson story) and the Lila in Hinduism. It is the divine play, the illusion, all the activities of Brahman, the Absolute. And that can be seen also as a "war". Like "the war" in the Bhagavad Gita where Arjuna gots his advice from Krishna...
@jackp6
@jackp6 5 жыл бұрын
and btw do you know the Fata Morgana, that is also an illusion... ;) Fata is Italian for Fairy, the one from the FairyTale And... after a Night of Rest In the Morning (Morgan, Morgen, Murgana) the daily "War" starts again...

Much of my understanding of the Morrigan comes from the Ulster cycle, and I am under the impression that she is a bit of a villain. She is cruel and malicious to most of the main Characters (Not that Cu or the rest are particularly nice people) and seems to enjoy causing general grief to Humanity.

I think the idea of her as a fertlility goddess is linked with the idea that she and her sisters is in some sense the same goddess. Dont get me wrong, none of the Morrigna are sexgoddesses none of the Morrigna are sex goddesses, by the power of three none of the Morrigna are sex goddesses! But does Macha have aspects of childbirth motherhood and maternal fertility? yeah. Does both Macha and Anu have aspects of argicultural fertility? Yes: Macha have references to both crops and cattle in her lore, and Anu means greatness of wealth. Wealth back in ancient times would have been connected to fertility so there. Combine that with the story of the bed of the couple, Christian influences and neopagan sexualization- there you have a likely explanation for this misconception :)
