This song means so much to me. I lost my fiancé on XMas eve 2017. I tried to see Lord Huron in concert but couldn’t get a ticket to a festival they played. I even tried to scalp a ticket and no luck. Ended up going to a dive bar later that night. Was waiting in a long line for the restrooms and struck up a conversation with a guy in line. Ended up being the singer. The entire band was there. Better then a ticket to the show. 🙏❤️

This song is sang from the "traveler" perspective. He's died and stuck between two worlds. He tragically speaks about her and he apparently died abruptly and fast. He says "when the night was full of terror and your eyes were filled with tears. When you had not touched me yet, oh take me back to the night we met" My soul mate died very much like this and I was the one who found him. I was terrified to touch him because I couldn't tell myself He's asleep. I knew in my head he was gone but my heart couldn't handle it. It's been 2 years ago and I'm still in excruciating pain. I'd give ANYTHING to go back to the night we met. I was only 14 years old when we met. We had Science together in school. I'm 45 now. Try out of nowhere and shockingly unexpectedly trying to not feel anything but completely destroyed. I died with him that night. So, it's not a made for medical drama break ups... I'm sorry you missed that.

May his soul rest in peace and I hope you live rest of you life happily and peacefully because I'm sure that's what he would've wanted for you, and hey you're soulmates so I wish your souls may reunite once again just like the night you met and live happily ever after again and again and again because that kind of love never dies.

It's not "from" 13 Reasons Why. That insinuates the song was written for the show. The show used a song that was already written.

I discovered this song a few weeks ago. My friend recommended it cause I liked their song “When the night is Over” & he said it made him think of me & my ex. I played it over & over. It does remind me i my ex whom I loved dearly. I went through a lot of pain with her & if I could go back, would I do it all over again, or “not to ride along with her”. Great song. Love your reaction videos. Just subscribed
@dianefiske-foy4717 Жыл бұрын
Sounds to me like the writer lost a friend or lover to death. And he was along for the ride. He’s talking about a night of terror, how he shouldn’t have ridden along with this person. And now, he’s haunted by the ghost of this person. And he’s thinking back to the night they met. My son had a friend during high school who died in a car crash. He was missing at first, because they couldn’t find him or his truck. This song reminds me of that. And, with all the shootings these days, it seems like someone is always attending a funeral and being haunted by the memory of the person. Same for COVID time when so many died.

First time hearing it, whilst watching your reaction to it, 😂👍 👍 I personally loved it, but then with how I process songs, I was only hearing the music and voice tones, so I would probably put it on my 'relax/sleep' playlist, for me there was something relaxing about it, 😀, it is one of those songs that I think, please do not let me find out it is about an ax murderer if/when I focus in on the actual lyrics, lmbo, 😂😂 It happened like that when I heard an incredibly beautiful duet on The Voice Germany (I think it was the knockout round??), one that you should most definitely check out, just do not focus on lyrics in the beginning, their voices together went straight through the soul, after you do that then restart and do your reaction, I was quite shocked when I looked up the original (which had the lyrics) and found out what it was about, I thought oh Lord forgive me for liking it and I will try to ignore what it is about, 😲😂😂😂 Soooo, I guess my quick comment turned into a chapter book, I will let you be, 😏 Hope you have a great week, ☺😀☺

I don't want to blow it for people who understand this song in a certain way for loved ones they've lost but... This song reminds me of a woman I loved with my whole heart who slowly but surely let her pain that pre-dated our relationship destroy us. She had her own healing to do but I entered the relationship naive to her past experiences. I related fully to the line, "so I could tell myself, not to ride along with you", before going into the chorus. I truly loved her, but in hindsight I wished I'd recognized some kind of warning signs and gone a different direction. I've communicated with her over the years, and I still want her to grow and heal. I'm at peace with the past finally, and it helped a bit to hear Lord Huron put these words into a song. So this song is about loving someone who couldn't love in return, losing them slowly, and dealing with the overwhelming emotional pain and destruction left in their wake. It helped me to look back and recognize the relationship was doomed from the start and there was nothing I could've done to navigate it successfully. No blame, just recognition of the reality.
