Calling it the softest battle is the wrong way to represent what this was. It was a Cold War standoff that was well over 10 years in the making. The most corporate rap battle and hundreds of millions, if not billions of revenue between these two artists that gets generated annually. The threat of violence isn’t necessary when the skills can speak for themselves. Kendrick won and ain’t nothing soft about the good kid from Compton.

For me lyricism is the most important aspect of Hip-Hop and some of the best weren’t what you would consider hard or gangsta…like A Tribe Called Quest, OutKast, De La Soul, Big Daddy Kane and many others….Tupac wasn’t even a gansta rapper when he first started so we already put way too much emphasis on “the so called street rapper” and in my opinion that’s been one of the worst things to happen to the Black community in particular bcuz everyone doesn’t know how discern art from real life 💯
