Yeah I couldn't finish it, I totally agree it's hard to find the story buried in that thesaurus he wrote. I barely made it to chapter 3 before putting it down. Every chance for an adjective, was like, Power Rangers...."It's Thesaurus Time!!"...followed by at least 5 synonyms! Which sucks because I loved his writing. In the copy I have he has a bit of an author's note for the 1920 reprint, it's what made me pick it up!

"A great read for someone in their 80s" got me 🤣🤣🤣Oh boy, not looking forward to the slog, but I think because it's so short, I should be okay 🤞

Also the slog isn't THAT bad. It's just been a long semester for me and so it felt worse than I'm sure it is

I gotta read that. I felt like Heart of Darkness was also prohibitively hard to follow and chalked it up to "stream of consciousness" narration; sometimes people tell stories by jumping from event to event without properly leading the audience.

Yeah Heart of Darkness felt hard to follow in a different way. From what I remember. Tho its also been a while since I read that.

If not for the help of "Cliff Notes," I probably would have given up. The story is fantastic if you're willing to dive into it, but the prose can be a struggle--for me, anyways. At times, I didn't know who the hell was talking about what. LoL.
