Claire Foy, as Elizabeth, gives a masterclass in restraint as Lord Mountbatten (Greg Wise) has a lot to say about the food, Philip, and the ballet. None of it was requested, but all of it was received. The subtleties continue, my dears, as Elizabeth attends the ballet and we witness her emotional journey solely through her facial expressions. Magnificent,

Who would you take relationship advice from?
@evansquilt

Not Dickie Mountbatten, who cheated on his wife almost from the beginning of their marriage, including with Shirley MacLaine, the actress. He liked much younger women, too. He may have been an effective man but he was not a good woman, and his advice to Prince Charles was disastrous.

I'd take relationship advice from 2 people: Claire Foy...if you watch her interviews, she has a brilliant understanding of relationships...of what makes them work and what doesn't. And my sister. She gives really good advice to people, but they don't ever listen to her lol....

In an ironic twist of fate, with the death of Elizabeth II, she was the last of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha dynasty (Now house of Windsor) and since technically her late husband was a Mountbatten, by Salic law, the reigning dynasty would be Mountbatten (Battenburg if we go even further with dynastic integrity) but parliament always had to ruin all the fun😒

I'm in awe of Claire Foy here, that whole sequence where she watches the ballerina dance (who her husband is probably cheating on her with) and thinking, what has this woman got that I haven't got? Is it just that she is very pretty, talented and not royal? Does he love her? Prince Phillip at that time was an extremely handsome young man and could (and did) have anyone he wanted. The Queen, however, was a one-man-woman if ever there was one and cheating on him- had she wanted to- would have been extremely difficult. I'm glad that the late Queen and her beloved husband are together once again, both of their duties to their country done honorably and well, and now they can just be together as two souls who love one another. No duty to anyone but themselves.

The Crown did Louis Mountbatten a favor portraying him so sympathetically. In hindsight we realize the man was a monster. A pervert who did ungodly things at Kincora, had a disastrous war record that got so many men killed yet the establishment looked the other away and gave him commendations. He had delusions of grandeur and his advice to the queen was detrimental. The man deserves nothing but condemnation.

The HIA was specifically convened for kinkora, case and said that there were no proofs that linked mountbatten with the charges of pedophilia. As for 'disastrous' war record,as,Supreme allied commander, he revitalized the beaten Allied army in S-E Asia and led them to victory against Japan in one of Britain's most spectacular victory of all time. As for the Queen, it was he who contrived her marriage to Prince Philip that stood the test of time and even the Queen said that Phillip was her strength . If you'll believe every word in a fictional series, then good luck to you.

There seems to be a lot of misinformation about lord mountbatten's married life. I've read several biographies of him and the memoirs of his daughter Pamela and here is the story. Mountbatten and his wife were happily married for a few years until his wife Edwina began her affairs. Mountbatten was devastated and later said that he had never looked at anyone except Edwina after they married. But instead of divorcing her,he chose to stay married but both Edwina and he would be free to see other people . Edwina agreed and continued her affairs with 18 different men. But when Mountbatten himself began an affair with Yola Letellier, Edwina became jealous and tried to break the relationship (talk about double standards).Edwina also suffered from neuralgia and constantly quarreled with him yet he was very patient. Edwina also neglected her daughters and handed them over to nannies. It was Mountbatten who filled the gap and was very affectionate with them. This too caused Edwina to become jealous and she tried to limit their time together .By all acounts, Mountbatten was an exemplary father and husband, in spite of all the pain Edwina caused him. A few years before her death, Edwina wrote to Mountbatten, " We have had a great partnership. I've had a very full and a very happy life on the whole all thanks to you. My love and admiration for you are very great"
