Yes I did! They are fantastic. The Spirit/Leadership can beat all three quests in campaign mode solo, and both decks together can beat all three quests as well. I don't think I would change anything really, until you start buying expansions.

I am a new player and can imagine the frustration for the players that played before the new repackaged product! Only getting one Unexpected Courage among a bunch of other amazing cards and only enough token, threat meters, etc for two players? I'm wishing that I could get multiple playsets of some of these to put in multiple decks!

Regarding the storage, I picked up the game two weeks go, only just sleeved the cards and I can tell you all the sleeved cards can fit into one of the large areas. The tokens and dials fit into both of the small areas, leaving the remaining large area for expansions. Now… on with the adventures… at last.

@TheGameLocker
@TheGameLocker Жыл бұрын
@@douglaspearson4853 I've got a video on the Angmar Hero Expansion showing all the cards included, that should help you decide if it's worth it for you. I will say though that building decks is really the core puzzle of this game. I had not played any games before that asked me to build a deck, but the process of learning how to build powerful and efficient decks to defeat the unique challenges of each quest was an incredibly satisfying puzzle to learn how to do. If you're not sure if you'd enjoy building decks, I'd hold off buying any more expansions until you figure out if you really enjoy that part of the game :). Cheers!

@TheGameLocker

I mostly use the new boxes the game comes in with the nice inserts, I find they work really well with some BCW foam to fill in the gaps. Then I use a Gamegenic Games' Lair 600+ to store all of the tokens, dials, dice, cubes, and up to 700 cards sleeved in SleeveKings sleeves as a sort of "grab box" for the decks and quests I want to play next.

The multi sphere starter decks from the old core sets were multi just becouse there was not enough cards to build 4 decks, one for each sphere. In the revised you can build 4 single sphere decks. and to be honest in a 4 player game, thats fine, you will have every card available. If you play solo, 2 or 3 player games though, you will probably want to build multi sphere decks. When this game first came out, i got my hands on 3 core sets, and our 4 player group ran single sphere decks up until the khazad dum cycle, where we had enough player cards to start mixing and building multi sphere decks. So for any new players, and i know i am a bit late to this video, if you can play with 4 players, use the suggested decks, and continue with that. If your group have less than 4 players, you should build multisphere decks starting from the intro adventure. =) I am here now becouse its been 7 years since my group last played LotR TCG, and i just ordered the Dream-chaser campaing expansion. 7 years ago i stopped after the Angmar cycle was concluded, and moved on to other games. But LoTR have always been sitting there on my shelf waiting to be played, so here we go again. This game is a bit old, FFGs later games of the "same" format have a lot of improvements to its mechanics, but this is where my COOP card game journey began, and its a great game, even better now with campaign rules with the new revised boxes. Its 5 out of 5, even if newer games have better mechanics.

Great videos. I want to get into this game and your videos are really helping me and i cannot wait to get it but one thing i am not sure about is the compatibility of the older stuff with the new "revised" stuff. I guess you cannot mix them and they will be making new "revised" versions of the older stuff. Or it doesnt really matter and i can for example buy this new revised core set and then some old expansion and play it together? Thanks
@TheGameLocker
@TheGameLocker 7 ай бұрын
Thankfully, the "revised" stuff is 100% compatible with the older stuff. It's not a second edition, it's simply a repackaging of the older content into fewer boxes, making it easier to distribute and purchase. The order stuff is out of print and more expensive, so I can recommend starting with just the revised core + Dark of Mirkwood. If you are 100% convinced after that that this game is for you and you know you want to be a completionist, and are willing to spend $2-3k to buy everything, then go for the older expansions. Otherwise, sticking with the revised content will certainly give you the best bang for your buck.

@@TheGameLocker Thank you for the answer. I finally wanted to buy it and even though lot of people in my country likes board games and card games, for some reason the LOTR LCG is almost impossible to get, only the basic new revised set, and maybe 1 or 2 older random small expansions on some random eshops, but not much else. everything else is not available or sold out. I know i can have fun with the basic set, but i loved the idea of getting different expansions etc and without it i am not sure anymore.

I have a question. Aside from having different quests and cards for your deck, is there anything that the core set offers that the expansions do not? Is the core set a good thing to have for someone like me that has played the digital version of the game, has a lot of experience with tcgs, has a good eye for what makes a card good and a staple, and will catch on quickly to what types of effects are good in this game? The people that I would play with play a lot of complex games as well, so they will learn quickly as well, so we would be fine if we got more complex cards and or decks to play. I'm so glad that got revised! I can't believe I missed this growing up and am so upset I missed out on this when I had opportunities to actually play this with people, now I rarely will!
@TheGameLocker
@TheGameLocker 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you actually need the Core set to get all the tokens, threat dials, first player token, and rulebooks to actually play the game. I mean maybe you cold track things with pencil and paper and dice, but I'd say the core set is essential. It also has a LOT of staple cards that are foundational for building decks even with a complete collection. There's a thriving community for this game, I'd encourage you to get involved! There's a great Facebook group, subreddit (/r/lotrlcg), the Cardboard of the Rings Podcast, ALeP (A Long Extended Party), Dragncards.com (is a browser-based full implementation of the game that you can play online with others. It's really spectacular)

@@TheGameLocker Ah okay. Then I'll definitely get the core set. It's worth the money to have all of those things. Thank you so much dude for answering all my questions and in a timely manner! I appreciate you doing that! Really?! That's great! Although for me personally I only want to play with people that I know personally and am close to since what I enjoy most about card games is playing with people that I'm close to and building good memories with them. Besides, I am very uncomfortable hanging out with people that I know nothing about, and I know my family and friends that they're nice people that won't go cursing every few sentences. But I appreciate you mentioning it. I can't say enough how glad I am that I found this game and that It's getting repackaged products! I found it at a good time even though not the best!

Do you think this is worth buying if you already have the older core set?
@TheGameLocker
@TheGameLocker 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on your budget and the size of your collection I'd say. If you already have a large collection, probably not worth going back to this. If you're just starting out though, the revised core gives you more copies of staple cards (including unexpected courage), better tokens, and new campaign cards that significantly improve the experience of playing these three quests. You can even take some of the boons you earn in this campaign with you into the next campaign you play (like Angmar Awakened). You might try selling your old core to buy the revised core - not sure what the market is for the old cores though. Hope this helps!

I'm here trying to figure out why this is $70? Wasn't the original $30? It is awesome that they included multiple copies of cards in this new starter though! @twitchster77
@twitchster77 2 жыл бұрын
Okay, after a little bit of research I'm pretty sure the original starter retailed for $70 as well and the price of it just dropped after some time like a lot of things do. This is such a great game! I have 3 of the original starters, 2 bigger expansions and each of the adventures from the first 2 cycles...all sleeved up. One of the greatest solo games I've played! I really need to dig the cards out again!
@TheGameLocker
@TheGameLocker 2 жыл бұрын
@@twitchster77 Agreed! From what I can find the original core MSRP was $40 and included 226 cards. The new revised core MSRP is $70 and includes 313 cards, which includes the 3x copies of all player cards as well as the new campaign boons & burdens to earn. The other things to factor into the price hike is monetary inflation (Asmodee hiked all prices 10-20% last year), extra tokens and dials, and a box with a strong, FUNCTIONAL insert that can hold sleeved cards. Totally worth the $70 imho

The original core set ones were even smaller, lol. The easy answer is they're not official decks, they're just meant to help you learn the game and what the different spheres can do. They're not "good" decks, it's very hard to win with them solo (the Leadership one is the best out of the 4). The recommended dual-sphere decks in the back of the Learn To Play book are much better, especially using both in a 2-player game.
