Lord of The Rings:Merry And Pippin: Pippin goes to Minas Tirith

Pippin looks into the Palantir, discovering Sauron's plans and has to go to Minas Tirith with Gandalf. I claim No Ownership. This movie was directed by Peter Jackson. And this is property or Warner Brothers.

Because Sauron also saw Aragorn since he ripped it out of Pippin’s hands, that led Sauron to falsely believe that Aragorn plans to use the ring against him, which is why he fell for the trap at the Black Gate, cuz he thought the ring was influencing Aragorn into believing he could win an impossible battle.

He also knew the ring was with a baggins, a hobbit that the ringwraiths spotted outside of the shire. This made a perfect trap for gandalf to use. Sauron wasn't specific about details (knowing of the fellowship and difference between the hobbits) so he fell for it.

Not necessarily. I think as you do, but also Denethor's mind was ravaged by the stuff he saw in the Palantir a long while ago. That's why he's such a dick towards Faramir and Gandalf. He was just screwed and lost his mind. In the books, he's described before that as a noble and great Sire.

​@@YourEmperorStef And the effects of the Palantiri were taking a tole on him and Gondor aswell that is why they lost Osgiliath twice easily not because of Faramir's alledged incompentence but Denethor's failure to have the faith and will in the army and Boromir's death escalated the corruption of Palantiri sven more, it was when He thought Faramir died when he sent Faramir to retake Osgiliath is when the corruption took full control and he was gonna end him and his son in a firey death. Also not to mention the effects the Palantiri of Orthanc had on Saruman driving him mad even though he was corrupted before bowing to Sauron but his uses with the Palantiri took tole on him aswell and it caused him to have his will power taken away by Eru and was given to Gandalf

The reason Gondor could not help was because as gandalf says, Minas tirith to Edoras is a 3 day journey, not to mention they are at the hornburg therefore another day or two's riding, not too mention it would be an army on foot, the problem is they never would have got tere in time and Theoden would not send for help, Hence why the Elves were such a surprise, But elves, especially elven archers are lighter on foot than men and can move twive the speed without stops for breath,

Another important point to add, Gondor wasn't anymore peaceful at the time either. Having to defend Osgiliath and Ithilien against Sauron's attacks at the time. Even if they wanted to help, their forces were tied down in these perpetual battles, so there was not much they could have done to aid Theoden

In the books Gondor is in a constant state of war at almost all fronts this time, they can barely hold onto their own territory let alone spare a army to save Rohan. They also knew that Rohan was in trouble but didn't know any details or that they were on the verge of defeat at the Hornburg.

Pippin is an unsung hero. Without him Gondor would be destroyed because Rohan wouldn't know of Sauron's attack in time. Without Pippin, there would be no "return of the king" because there would be no kingdom left. Pippin wasn't a fool, he took a calculated risk which could have a high reward and that's exactly what was needed in this war.

Calculated or not (and I think not), what he did was to draw Sauron out, make him fast-forward his plans and attack before he was really prepared. That was all the difference. That, and Aragorn then wresting the palantir away from Sauron blew the doors off. Sauron would have crushed Gondor had this taken but a few more weeks… the Corsairs would have not been defeated as Aragorn would not have taken the Paths of the Dead, the Rohirrim would not have been mustered, etc. Definitely a happy accident.

The only thing that bothers me about this scene is the lack of Éomer, who by this time is now heir to the throne of Rohan, why isn't he here and yet Merry and Pippin, alongside Legolas and Gimli - none of whom are important military commanders like Aragorn, Théoden or Éomer - are?
