As his fingers took the hilt, it seemed to the watchers that firmness and strength returned to his thin arm. Suddenly, he lifted the blade and swung it, shimmering and whistling in the air. Then, he gave a great cry. His voice rang clear as he chanted in the tongue of Rohan a call to arms. "Arise, now! Arise, Riders of Théoden! Dire deeds awake! Dark is it eastward! Let horse be bridled, horn be sounded! Forth Eorlingas!" RIP Bernard Hill, forever our Théoden King 💙

Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers, I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down, but it is not this day!!!! This day we fight!! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!!! Freaking goosebumbs every single time....

SkyHighGuys some people were saying that Lord of the Rings is racist and conservative movies because they're seeing these such things (west vs east, where the east are the bad guys and it's almost rare to see "white" in evil hordes). and then, they're adjusting them to the real world lives. You know, like gulf countries vs western or anything like that. I know, I'am also getting annoyed by people who were saying that. It's just fantasy movies.

"Éomer rode there, the white horsetail on his helm floating in his speed, and the front of the first éored roared like a breaker foaming to the shore, but Théoden could not be overtaken. Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new fire in his veins, and he was borne up on Snowmane like a god of old, even as Oromë the Great in the battle of the Valar when the world was young." I read that part of the book while listening to this and teared up. One of the best moments in the whole legendarium and perfect when set to Shore's music.

I feel the exact same. I still love the films, but have a harder time watching them. Don’t know why, but I’d love to enjoy them again soon. Perhaps it’s the setting I’ve been in. I remember the first time I watched The Two Towers. It was a Saturday and in the middle of the movie my father asked if I wanted to go out with him to run a few errands. We went to the store, went to a printing place (he’s an artist) then after that we went to this waffle shop and bakery. He got some carrot cake and I got a waffle. We returned to a perfectly clean house as my mother does a full cleaning every Saturday and then I sat down and finished the movie. One of the best days of my life. I hope I can enjoy these films again soon.

The landscape with the lake from 3:10 to 3:40 was filmed in a mostly undiscovered gem region of NZ called the Maniototo plain in central otago. The lake (poolburn reservoir) was used to filmed the scene where a Rohan village is attacked. Also filmed nearby was the taking the hobbits to Isengard scene, and when the Rohirrim surround Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn, I was extremely fortunate to spend 6 months working on a sheep farm called Linnburn Station, the boundary of which is visible on this video, with the main farm approximately two miles away. Many of the tracks you can see were caused by our sheep or us in our trucks All of this was unbeknown to me when applying for the job of course, imagine my unbridled joy when I arrived at the farm to realise I would be working in Rohan. The name of this slice of land is called Erehwon or Nowhere backwards. Named by a poet in the 1930's or something. I lived and worked on this set for ten months from set painting and rendering to working with the cooks while they fed the film crew, actors and extras then on the wrecking crew pulling down the set and then finally with the greens planting thousands of tussocks and putting the land back to the way it was before we came. I will never forget the beauty and feeling of isolation this place delivers in all climates through winter and summer. It was blanketed in snow for a few weeks in winter and the film crew lost a few horses when the handlers had to get them out of the marquee tent stables because the snow was collapsing the roof and some of the horses had never seen snow and bolted. I think they lost three never to be found. In summer it got so hot we would jump into the streams in our work boots and shorts and be dry within half an hour. edit This place is only 57km from the West Coast of NZ but you would have to cross a glacier to get there and there are two you can see from the hill top looking north into the two giant valleys that split off north eats and north west.

Rohan’s theme is my fave in LOTR trilogy. The string driven sound is earthy and grounded, like majestic horses and those who relied on them to live. Howard Shore is amazing at creating themes that fit the tribes. Hobbits, Elves, men, and orcs all have distinctive melody that speaks volume.

@@ohifonlyx33 You can banish the evil within you, tho. That's where it all starts. Controlling your passions, your lower impulses. Disciplining yourself. And when you have mastered that, you can become a hero who will fight against evil in the outer world. That's what LOTR is about. It is a fundamentally Christian story about fighting against sin and evil, infused with some pagan mythology.
@joyfulyes
@joyfulyes Жыл бұрын
@@AurumLuxuria do you think that disciplining the self, controlling the lower impulses and so on - being a good human being who opposes evil - is an exclusively Christian thing? If so, you need to read some more source material. Start with Marcus Aurelius. Most belief systems are just different retailers whose products all come from the same wholesaler 😁 Tolkien was Christian of course, and that informed his work, but it doesn't need to be read through a Christian lens, or as Christian allegory, to be edifying. He despised allegory and said so. Went rounds with CS Lewis about it in fact...(Narnia makes my teeth itch. So patronizing) Just like so much of the pagan lore Tolkien spent his life studying, human nobility, compassion, goodness, and heroism predate Christianity by millennia. Such things were, are, and remain bigger than any one religion.

"Gondor calls for aid!" "And Rohan will answer!" People quote this line so much I feel like it's lost a bit of meaning. This is two nations long torn apart by animosity, finally recognizing that their differences mean nothing in the face of utter destruction, and uniting to turn back the armies of darkness. They were willing to throw aside their squabbles because they understood that the good of the world was much more important than their own gain.

@@NickyHendriks With all due respect to Jackson, this is something he changed in the movie. It made for a more dramatic scene in the movie. Gondor could not have helped Rohan as they were fighting their own battles to the south while they were preparing for Mordor to strike them first. Gondor had already lost Minas Ithil, Cair Andros, Ithilian and Osgiliath. Tolkien wrote of battles throughout Middle Earth on several fronts because of his experience in WWI. Jackson just made the changes for a more dramatic film. Aragorn did not go to Edoras until after the War. The Battle of Pelennor fields lasted for about 9 hours.

Yeah, he nailed a the mix of the orc horde and triumphant yet bitter sweet violin soli. Fits Tolkien's Silmarillion of the third theme: "Then again Ilúvatar arose, and the Ainur perceived that his countenance was stern; and he lifted up his right hand, and behold! a third theme grew amid the confusion, and it was unlike the others. For it seemed at first soft and sweet, a mere rippling of gentle sounds in delicate melodies; but it could not be quenched, and it took to itself power and profundity. And it seemed at last that there were two musics progressing at one time before the seat of Ilúvatar, and they were utterly at variance. The one was deep and wide and beautiful, but slow and blended with an immeasurable sorrow, from which its beauty chiefly came. The other had now achieved a unity of its own; but it was loud, and vain, and endlessly repeated; and it had little harmony, but rather a clamorous unison as of many trumpets braying upon a few notes. And it essayed to drown the other music by the violence of its voice, but it seemed that its most triumphant notes were taken by the other and woven into its own solemn pattern." Exert AINULINDALË The Music of the Ainur from The Simarillion.

I am a die hard Star Wars fan and a well immersed Harry Potter fan... The LOTR Trilogy is by far the best series ever put to film. It’s honestly not even close. I know PJ made huge changes and deviations from the books, but my god at what incredible storytelling and emotion dedicated to these films. The score alone is just the tip of the iceberg
@MostLikelyMortal
@MostLikelyMortal 5 жыл бұрын
The changes PJ made were mostly in service to a visual medium (people aren’t going to understand the depth of the relationship between Arwen and Aragorn if they have one and a half scenes together, and Elrond’s council would’ve lasted 45 minutes+ without cuts). But wherever possible, he and his team did their best to be accurate to Tolkien’s vision and it shows in the brilliance of the films.

Nope. Star Wars OT still the best. Created originally by George Lucas, unlike PJ who already had a template. Compare all the new things in each trilogy. In LOTR we have elves, dwarves, orcs, wizards, etc., but these entities have been around for a long time. Now if we see Star Wars, everything is original. Like X-Wings, TIE Fighters, The Force, Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca, R2D2, C-3PO, Darth Vader, Death Star, Jedi, Yoda. I mean friggin Yoda man. Even the most literate and educated people quote Yoda. “Illuminous beings are we, not this crude matter.” And the friggin sound effects, like that of a lightsaber or the screeching of a TIE Fighter. Sure Lucas had a lot of influences, but Star Wars is very very original. The set design was very unique. Sometimes I wonder how did one man come up with all this. PJ made a very good trilogy based off another mans work. The lore of goblins, elves, etc. have been around for a long time. That’s why while LOTR movie and books are excellent, they still are not that original. I don’t mean to diss PJ. He in fact made LOTR better than the books, many say. And that is a very rare achievement because in general the book is always considered better than the movie. Not in the case of LOTR. PJ made it better than the books.

Best scene ever...when Helms Deep is almost defeated and Gandalf shows up with Shadowfax, and the king's nephew with the Rohan cavalry on horseback go charging down the cliff to the climax of the sun shining on the orcs, it's magnificent!

Impressive that there's so much protected natural landscape in New Zealand. Two islands which so many people desire to live on... you'd expect it to be packed to the brim with urban sprawl by now. Good on ya kiwis.

I am not sure where you live but you will probably be amazed how much land there is to explore. Even on Honshu where Tokyo and one of the worlds largest metropolitan areas there are still many places you can go and get hours away from civilization. Larger countries like the USA have insane amounts of land and you can still find remote places that probably haven't seen more than 10 people in the last 100 years. P.S. This isn't condescending, but hopefully helps you find places to explore near you!

@@NONO-hz4vo I'm in the US, so I'm used to the enormously expansive natural areas here, I'm just pleasantly surprised there's so much still left on those relatively small islands.

More than 90% of the forests in NZ have disappeared since the European settlers arrived. SO much of the fertile land isn't even used for crops since it's on unmanageable terrain. Sacrilege!

Just a shower thought while hearing this. Sometimes I find the thought to live in Rohan with people that work and care for each other and are willing to die with their king on the battlefield more attractive than living today in this globalised world where you don't get to know the people that made the cloth you're wearing, the food you're eating and the shows you're watching. Anyways like another comment already said, the people watching this are worth meeting for sure.
