For Fëanor beheld the hair of Galadriel with wonder and delight. He begged three times for a tress, but Galadriel would not give him even one hair.

There's a game released on the Epic Game store recently, "Return to Moria". you build and craft and fight your way from one end of Moria to the other to reclaim it for the Dwarves. John rhys-davies reprises his role as Gimli and meets you in the end-game to congratulate you on your victory. Around the character's neck is a golden chain suspending a crystal vial, three golden hairs within.

When my Dad and I saw the first movie, both of us were stoked because I practically grew up reading the stories. And it was special because of the father/son bonding over this film. But what made it so powerful was when my Dad, a Vietnam Vet and former police officer, who never once in my entire life i have ever seen cry shed tears when Boromir had his last stand. Quiet tears, just as I had tears. We didn't say anything about it afterwards. Some things don't need explanation between men. It's a memory I cherish to this day. RIP Dad.🥲

The gift scene of gimli is exceptional because: galadriel was asked ages before by an famous elf the same lock of hair but unlike gimli he got nothing because he wanted it out of greed but galadriel saw through him and denied his request

Gimli only asked once, but because his heart and soul were so Pure, she gave 3 hairs to him as symbol of his purity. When Legolas heard that, he grew fond of Gimli and realised they could become best of friends.

My English teacher from Grade 3 read chapters from the Hobbit to us in Primary School. I read all the rest of the Lord of the Rings in High School because of him. I remember watching The Fellowship of the Ring and thinking to myself, "I hope you're watching this Mr. Vivian." 😊

I first read the books nearly 50 years ago, and multiple times since. I saw the movies when they came out 20+ years ago, and multiple times since. I've watched multiple reaction videos to the movies since that became a thing. Every time, especially when the person reacting to the movie gets as emotionally invested as you, the tears well up in a solid stream, particularly during the fall of Boromir.

No one is late, nor are they early. They react to The Lord of The Rings precisely when they mean to. This is the greatest trilogy in history to me. So happy for you to begin this journey. I doubt you know about second breakfasts or elevensies but you will learn shortly. Be prepared to be heartbroken and warmed near equally and epically. P.S. You can still go to the Shire...it's still there ❤

It's NOT a trilogy. It is one continuous journey. The only reason there are 3-books, is because the original publisher felt that the entire story was way to long, (9,250 pages) to be a sellable product, so they make Tolkien break the novel into 3-parts. Jackson followed suit as it would have been a 9-hour movie, so he made it into a 3-movie epic. A lot of people only familiar with the Jackson films make this mistake, just like some people believe the novel, A Song of Ice & Fire is titled A Game of Thrones, only because of the show.

After the shooting of the LOTR movies all the natural locations where restored to their original look including The Shire location but it had to be rebuilt for The Hobbit movies so the NZ government bought the land and kept the set in tact as a tourist attraction.

Filming was done for 2 and a half years straight for all 3 movies, Elijah Wood (Frodo) was 19 when he started and had 3 birthdays here in NZ. Some say that the scenery is CGI, but the only parts that are CGI happen to be the big structures and statues. Added note, when they show the entrance to the town of Bree, the person walking from left to right of the screen eating a carrot was the Director Peter Jackson, himself.

Tolkien was just an exceptional writer, and incorporated so much into his stories, I think the idea of fantasy being dismissed is because of how fantasy after Tolkien was just a bunch of cheap imitations that didn't really have the depth or skill of Tolkien. You need someone like Pratchet, Sanderson, Martin, Jordan etc to be able to write truly timeless works of art. Anyone can write a book, but it takes exceptional talent, and effort to create something truly timeless and magical

It wasn't scripted that Gandalf would hit his head on the beam at Bag End's hallway, it was actually a mistake that Ian McKellen did, a blooper, but because McKellen stayed in character and the unexpected humor in the take, it got stuck in the film.

We're left to wonder exactly what Romeo, or Shakespeare, meant .Is Juliet bright? Is she beautiful? Is she blinding? Dazzling? Ultraviolet? Radioactive? OK, some of those are silly, but Shakespeare didn't really explain it. It's art, and we interpret. But Bilbo's speech wasn't so much art as it is logic. Like any logic puzzle, we can dissect it and understand it, usually by simplifying it to easier bits that are much more clear. For example: "I don't know half of you half as well as I should like." Let's simplify: "I know you as well as I should like." That meaning is clear: I like you exactly the right amount. Add part of it back in: "I know you half as well as I should like." Now it means: I would like to know you twice as much as I do. Add more: "I know you half of you, half as well as I should like." Now I am talking to a group and I want to know half of them twice as much as I do. Finally, adding in "don't" just flips it to mean the other half, but we still want to like them twice as much as we do. "And I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve." Simplify: "I like you less than you deserve." Clearly this means you deserve to be liked more than I like you. Put part of it back: "I like you half as well as you deserve." Now this means you deserve to be liked twice as much as I like you. Add a little back in: "I like half of you half as well as you deserve." Again, talking to a group, half of them deserve to be liked twice as much as I do. Add the rest: "I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve." This time, it means a smaller number than half of them deserved to be liked twice as much as I do. Similar to MasterIceyy, I actually always thought Bilbo was just being grumpy too and making a snide parting remark in line with his less than charitable viewpoint about most of the residents of the Shire that he shared earlier. I found it to be just something to chuckle at in the moment, but honestly, I kind of always hated that he was being rather unkind to all these folks who had gathered together in his honor. How nice to see that I had interpreted it incorrectly (tho I do feel that's likely the intention for the viewer to experience that, so we initially feel the same confusion the party goers do). Bilbo expressing some remorse for being a bit of a grouchy recluse for so many years - AND pretty much botching up the sentiment in the process lol - just adds so much more to this moment and to his character.

@@b00jen81 Thanks. Glad you liked the explanation. I read this book 20 years before I saw the movie. It's much easier to dismantle Bilbo's convoluted riddle when you see it in plain text and have the time to mull it over. In the movie you get one one shot at hearing it then the movie moves on. I guess that's why they call them "movies"... :) I imagine it was like that for the hobbits, too: they got one chance to hear it then Bilbo moved on. I think Peter Jackson's portrayal of their perplexity was spot on.

He said he really didnt know how to handle it when all these kids approach him. He'd never had a fanbase of children and young people before. He did say it was great.

In 1983 i met Sir Christopher Lee at Gleneagles Hotel while i was 16 and autograph hunting during a Pro/Celebrity golf tournament. We chatted for half an hour about golf, films and books. The 3 movies were made in 2000/01 and released every year from 2001. Any special effects you see are 20 plus years old. So little of Gollum is seen in Fellowship as the CG capability didn't exist when it was released, but by the second movie, Two Towers, the techical computer skills allowed the fantastic work of Andy Serkis as Gollum to be fully showcased.

Watch the behind the scenes stuff and the feature length cast audio commentary. A lot of times the BTS stuff ruins the movie for rewatching, but not for LOTR. The entire cast and crew worked so hard and put so much detail into these movies that the BTS knowledge enhances the rewatching. Knowing that Orlando Bloom tried to show confusion as Legolas when dealing with Borimir's death because Elves don't deal with death as often as other races, that Liv Tyler (Arwen) was treated with the utmost respect by the mostly male cast when she was on set, that Dominic and Billy (Merry and Pippin) really were troublemakers, that Sean Bean hiked to locations high up because he didn't want to ride in a helicopter, that Viggo Mortensen carried his sword everywhere, even to restaurants after filming...just the tip of the iceberg on the fun details.

Galadriel pretty sure knew what it means to bear a ring of power, for the ring with the white gem she wore was one of the three rings of power that were given to the elves. Less powerful than the One ring, but nonetheless probably one of the most powerful magical items in Middle Earth - but it would be also be her downfall if Sauron regained the One ring, for that was specifically designed to control the other rings of power.

We know Lorien was deserted - Arwen goes there at the very end, and the loneliness is specified. Can probably assume without Galadriel and her ring time eventually reclaimed everything. I think it's mentioned Rivendell remains somewhat occupied for the longest time after, along with the Havens. Ultimately all Elvish workings and people fade after the coronation, the Age of Man etc, as Gandalf tells Aragorn.

The "incident with the dragon" refers to The Hobbit book/films. The 19 rings were originally made to bend the will of the world leaders to Sauron. The 9 kings of men succumbed. The dwarves, obsessed with shiny stuff and living underground anyway, counted them among their many trinkets and in the end they've been lost with some eaten by dragons. As soon as they realized Sauron's trickery, the elves used magic to hide the 3 elven rings and use their power for themselves. That last part is super oversimplified, but Ringcrafting was taught to Sauron by the elves, so it makes sense that they could go "Oh hell no, we're not doing this today." I like how she calls the meal at Weathertop a "Full English Breakfast" because (even though as a Celt I disagree) one of the many reasons Tolkien cites writing the story is that he felt "A serious lack of Ancient English mythology" even though it doesn't even take place in our world.

35:30 "Always follow your nose" is an old-timer joke. Like, from the days before radios or cars. When you're walking somewhere, you should look where you are going so you don't bump into things, fall off of things, trip over things, etc. If you are looking in the same direction you're walking, your nose will be in the front of your face and the rest of your face will "follow your nose". But if you're looking a different direction, you won't be following your nose (since it's pointed the wrong direction) which means you won't be looking at where you're going, so accidents might happen. So "follow your nose" means the same thing as "look where you're going". It's good advice, offered up as a silly bit of a joke. Gandalf here was referencing that joke, but he actually smelled fresher air, so his nose was telling him where to go, so he had two meanings. Wizards are clever like that.

For me, the Extended Version of Fellowship is THE viewing experience, mandatory even, for new viewers. The theatrical cut left out a lot of scenes with Boromir, doing him a disservice - and that opening narration of Bilbo introducing us to the Hobbits and their culture, I can no longer imagine a LOTR viewing without it.

"I kinda want to see [the ring] to its full potential..." Clearly you wouldn't be able to be a ring bearer 🤣🤣🤣 Very excited for this though. I basically watch any LOTR Reaction when it comes out. The lack of CGI in these films make sure that they hold up incredibly well even after two decades. And when they do use it they're able to really focus on it and make it look good. The Balrog in this still looks better than the Balrog in the $1,000,000,000 Rings of Power series. Can't wait to show my kids when they're old enough.

When you read the book(s), Sam plays a much more deliberate part in joining Frodo, it wasn't accident that Sam was " eavesdropping ". Tolkien, himself, stated that LoTR was about Sam.

Tolkien was a great writer, and Jackson and the screenwriters did a great job in using his words verbatim; a lot of the best lines in the movie come straight out of the book. Maybe they're said by a different character, or at a different time, but still they add a lot. All the song lyrics and poems come right from the source.

The acting, character development, story, scenery, music etc is all just so damn good... It is understandable to be invested. If you have time, then read the books. Glorfindel, Tom Bombadil, the Barrow Downs and many other people and scenes are waiting there. I *do* understand why Glorfindel was cut and Arwen substituted to save Frodo though - Glorfindel was SO powerful that the Nazgul fled in terror and dare not fight him. Still love the films to the max no matter what!

Don't be fooled as many have by thinking of The Lord of the Rings book or film as being trilogies, the book in its original and proper form was a single book a single story that was subsequently divided in to 3 volumes (against Tolkien's wishes by his publishers for publishing and monetary reasons) hence the titles of the 3 parts, the same was also done to the film it was divided in to 3 parts not films in their own right(hence the titles) also for viewing/publishing and monetary reasons.

Off the top of my head there's a lot of cut content from the Shire portion of the movie, they didn't mention the trolls when Frodo had been stabbed, Boromir's dream during the meeting was cut as well as Gandalf snapping him out of it with Black Speech, and that's just a few. It would take a while to name off every single thing, so that may answer you question right there lol

Both Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall consider it their best work of their entire careers. Many people consider the novel to be the best Western novel ever written. One thing that the films don't touch upon is that Gandalf and Saruman, while they look like old men, they're not men (humans) bur they're angelic spirits called Maiar (singular Maia) who have been sent to Middle Earth by the Valar (the gods of Arda, the world where Middle Earth is set) to assist the free peoples in the war against Sauron, who is also a Maia. The Balrog is a Maia as well, and he/it wasn't the only one, there used to be several of them (the number varies in different drafts Tolkien wrote but most likey they had to be around twenty as one mighty elf named Glorfindel slain some and many were killed in War of Wrath at the end of the First Age and a handful managed to flee and hide, including the one in Moria, refered as Durin's Bane). Other Maiar were Radagast (who appears in The Lord of the Rings book and mentioned in The Hobbit, though he was cut from the LOTR films and was instead put into The Hobbit films) and The Blue Wizards who was sent to the east to desuade the men of Rhûn to not ally with Sauron. What happened to them remains a mystery as they could have either succeded or failed their misson. Morgoth who is mentioned by Legolas, was the original Dark Lord in The First Age. He was a Vala that was jealous of Eru Iluvatar, the High God and creator of Arda, the elves and Men (the dwarves were created by Aulë the Smith, another Vala, without Eru's permisson and when he was found out, he was willing to destroy to make up for his disobeians but they first dwarves suddenly recoiled in fear as thanks to Eru, they got proper souls instead of just being puppets of flesh and blood, so Eru let them live but under the condition that they shall not wake up before the elves) for not being able to create actual life, he tainted and corrupted lands and creatures, transforming them into monsters and beasts, like the dragons. The Balrogs were good Maiar originally and so was Sauron but they were seduced by Morgoth and they became evil. To make a long story short, Morgoth set up two different fortresses in a land west of Middle Earth call Beleriand, went to The Undying Lands and stole the beautiful gems called The Silmartils, as well as destroying The Two Trees of Valinor (which were the world's original light source before the creation of sun and moon, they were infact created by the last remaining fruit and flower respectively of the Gold and Silver Tree), Fëanor ,the son of Elf King Finwë (the creator of the Silmarils) declared war against Morgoth for the theft of the gems and slaying his dad and forced all Noldor Elves (of Galadriel and the Lothlorien elves were part of) to go to war against Morgoth for the Silmarils. After many centuries of wars and conflicts (including the story of Beren and Luthíen, Elrond, Arwen and Aragorn's ancestors, who managed to get one of the Silmarils) which included the destruction of three great Elf Kingdoms, Gondolin being one of them, and the loss of the Silmarils and the deaths of Fëanor and his sons, the people of Middle Earth begged The Valar for help and they went to war against Morgoth and his forces, along with the Maiar. After a destructive battle that destroyed Beleriand and sunk it to the ocean floor, The Dark Lord was defeated (his original power was severaly weaked after using it for centuries to corrupt the land and turning beasts into monsters) and were locked into a dimension outside of space and time. Sauron was summouned for his judgement but he was too scared to do it and fled to Middle Earth to hide. After sometime he fell into evil and became the new Dark Lord, setting the events of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
