im surprised that so little commentary has gone into the actual dialogue outside of humorous notes. treebeard/fangorn is basically an expression of Tolkien's inner anger at the destruction of the natural world for the benefit of industry. the pain in the lines about the destruction of the forest isnt a quote from treebeard in the novel but rather a call back to a passage abut tom bombadil, but the point remains, tolkein hated the modern desire to support industry and destroy the forests
@juliandavidhoffer2022 Жыл бұрын
That’s a very complex issue
@JackJackKcajify Жыл бұрын
You almost got it right. But its not about Tolkien's own particular expressions. its a direct expression of tolkiens experiences. And tolkiens experience is the same as any other person who witnesses destruction of nature. What you see in this movie is a direct translation of the evil in reality. Its not just tolkiens beliefs. Its real things that happen in the real world, and this fiction represents it, or maybe even more, is a direct transcription of real things and experiences. And it can be more general even. Not just outrage against the violence and destruction of nature, but the violence and destruction of the world and humankind in general.
@markhynes1940 Жыл бұрын
It's no surprise. I just finished rewatching the trilogy last night, and even through those films which were technically only indirectly a product of Tolkien's own work at best, these themes are still as clear as day. Especially if you have any knowledge or interest in the period in which Tolkien lived through. I'm no historian by any stretch of the imagination, but I've always had interests in history, mostly at the turn of the 20th century and the next couple of decades following. Knowing what little I do of those times from my own readings really elevates the experience to a whole new level, and I was able to pick up on a lot of little things that were likely inspired by things Tolkien witnessed himself at that period in time. The feelings of being lost, alone, hopeless, and insignificant against an endless and unbeatable enemy which he likely felt during his time in the trenches of WWI are very well embodied through the travels of Frodo and Sam. Watching ever-expanding industrialization giving birth to the modern world as we know it, destroying and consuming the beauty of mother nature to fuel it's own hungry fires, to continously grow and expand. This is embodied most chiefly through Isengard and Saruman's vision for a very similar kind of future, though hints of this are sprinkled all throughout. My love for that era of history and my love for fantasy and specifically Tolkien's works has only served to further elevate my love for both.

He is not astute by any means, and is not extremely bright. Literally, one was written to be a compelling character with a narrative. The other cause. “I am Groot.”
