Lord Zedd indeed was an inspired and nasty addition to the Power Rangers show when I first watched it. I thought he embodied a demonic nastiness that made him way more threatening than Rita or subsequent villains. I particularly loved his power to transform any object or any living thing into a monster with just his staff alone. Zedd getting lulled by Rita into marrying her did end up turning him into a bit of a joke, though I rather liked how well Rita and Zedd worked together and combined forces. The only other villain who I think was nastier than Zedd was Ivan Ooze, but then again I haven't followed subsequent Power Rangers shows for a long time. I do think that if Zedd wanted to rule the world faster, all he had to do was besiege all of Earth's televisions with recordings of him being naked: that would conjure some terrifying nightmares for the Rangers more than his metal bikini did. It would certainly happen in a satirical parody of Power Rangers, if it were ever made. If one were to rewrite the Power Rangers, I'd see Lord Zedd as some kind of space demon lord, and the monsters he would create with his staff as being even nastier and more horrific than the ones we saw on TV. I might even have him borrow abilities from Ivan Ooze and mythological Japanese demon lords. Back on topic, the Power Rangers comics look intriguing, and have gone in some fascinating directions. It was interesting to see what Zedd's face looked like without his mask. Seeing Zedd become an evil Ranger is kind of exciting. Not bad for a franchise which adapted and re-edited scenes from the Super Sentai series. I even see new directions VR Troopers could take in comics, if VRT comics are still being done.

I'd love to see these comics (which I haven't really been following until just recently, so forgive me if I suggest something that already happened) bring back Ivan Ooze, cross over with VR Troopers and/or Big Bad Beetleborgs, and possibly even bring in a re imagined Masked Rider, building an even richer Saban universe beyond just Power Rangers. I know that rights issues may make this difficult, but how cool would that be, though!

But in all seriousness, I was just humorously speculating as to how Earth people would react if they saw Zedd's metal bikini completely removed. And if the comics publishers can't get the rights, they always have the chance to write complex and imaginative parodies of the various Sentai shows, whether it be the original Japanese versions or the Americanized versions. I think of a few ways Ivan Ooze could be made to be nastier and more menacing than when he first appeared.

I wonder if this is also a callback to a combo of the things that were suggested that Zedd's normal appearance was due to getting, essentially flayed and burned by the power of the Zeo Crystals thousands of years ago...and mixing that with the old theory that Zedd and Rita were part of a Ranger team that included Zordon (Or that Zordon was sent after them when they went evil). With Red and Green as evil and White there...a lot of it was due to Rita having the Dragon coin and Zedd's appearance being a lot like a twisted ranger as it is.

I never thought Lord Zedd was so scary that he needed toned down, I was 9 or 10 I think when season 2 aired, and I always found him more funny than scary, becoming even more funny when Rito showed up and kept calling him Ed instead of Zedd!

Glad to see the comic videos up again. I think they bring a different dimension to the channel. I got into the comics because of your initial videos on them. I have a subscription at my local shop but am behind in reading them. The original rangers will always pull me in more than the others. I'm more interested in the stories of them as I watched them as a kid and don't have the same connection with rangers from other seasons.

The original Zedd is already returned to human form thanks to Zordon’s wave. He just isn't a ranger. This Zedd is jerked out from the past to the point of pure evilness so that made sense he is now a Power Ranger. He will eventually team up with Power Rangers to defeat a common enemy in that form, just removing the evil part of him. As for Lord Drakkon regaining his power coin, he has no interest to join the Power Rangers to fight evils, he just wanted to control all dimensions. This is where Zedd in Ranger form is needed on Power Rangers side to end Lord Drakkon’s empire.

Btw, in that flashback of how Zedd met and recruited Rita, the last panel Rita is giving these ‘fuck me’ eyes to Zedd, and I can CONFIRM that was the deliberate vibe cos after the issue came out, a tweet with WIP sketches by the comic artist Simona show how they tweaked that last panel to specifically give Rita that expression more clearly. AND THEN the writer Melissa Flores herself retweeted those sketches and added the word ‘Spicy’ So we may be heading into “The Wedding” at some point LMAO! I mean Rita drugged Zedd into marrying her originally and he didn’t care even after he got cured; who is to say nearly killing him doesn’t get him hooked and smitten 😂

I'm wondering how he got the morpher and whats powering it. It could be being powered by the Chaos Chrystal and created by Puttie Rita or Finster, but that doesn't explain everything. Where did he keep the morpher, does Grace have a Spy in her midst, where is Zedd's staff and will Zedd be spreading the power around. Zedd's dark rangers have always been quite powerful, but will he be the sole Dark Ranger, will he be crusading with Drakkon against Dark Spectre or is he going to continue to be a part of Dark Spectre's army. Edit: Does Zedd help Drakkon create a new power set for the coinless? The coinless still have their Finster and the fragments of every power coin, except the Triceratops. There are still other power sets, but it looks like Dark Spectre is winning in Drakkon's universe and possibly destroyed/captured those sets.

When I was younger I always thought a cool origin for his appearance would be that he was the Red Ranger in a galactic ranger team with Zordon (White) Rita (Purple) and Rito (Green) and there'd be this big betrayal, and their teammates would be killed by Zed and Zordon would escape with their coins, stealing Zed's but not before some kind of energy attack melted and grafted his suit onto his body and destroyed his flesh. Similar thing with Rito only Rita would nab the green coin to save for later. Ironically the movie from a few years ago used a few similar ideas.

i thought it was always assumed lord zedd was the original red ranger from when zordon had a body, and rita was the original green ranger, scorpina the original yellow, zordon the original blue etc, there was always a hint of it in the series. and zordon never explained how or why rita was imprisoned or what was the fate of the rangers who first fought her, just that he lost his body as a result of it, and rita somehow had the green ranger coin locked up with her on the moon....

Ah but in comics a remnant of Zedd made human Zedd remember who he was and went some time teleport thingy and regain his original race and looks also the power also Zedd and Zordon are the same species just Zedd became corrupted and injured it twisted his looks into what we know him as and in the show a wizard summoned him and brought him back at his most viel through mind controlled thx to a complice collar but got freed and is probably planning on getting more powerful

It's has been a while since we got to see a Power Rangers comic related video from you and I have to admit that this video is quite exciting and interesting. I really can't believe that Boom! Studios actually gave Lord Zedd a new Power Rangers like form and the only question that has come to my mind is Why wasn't this done soon? I mean it is totally radical and cool. And then he pulls out his Morpher with a red Z on it, says it's morphin time, and then proceeds to absolutely destroy the entirety of the ranger team, before leaving without any kind of explanation

I didnn't know about the Power Rangers comic books until sometime last year. I've been watching the show since it premied in August 1993 minus most of seasons 14-27. As for Lord Zedd's power up, he looks like he could be a real threat to the rangers now.

I'd just seen the 'Dark Rangers' episode again before I read this issue, so escalating off of that concept, it makes total sense to me. Plot-hole wise-- where was he keeping the Morpher? Zordon could teleport things in and out for the Rangers when they needed them. Can Zedd do it by sheer thought?

It's been set-up from a previous series. Zedd had instructed Finnster to hide something when they last attacked the Command Center. We didn't see what the thing was at that time, but now it's been revealed it's this Morpher. Finnster even told Zedd exactly where he hid it in those panels tho I can't recall what he said now.

I have my misgivings about making zedd a ranger even though an evil ranger but the show has worn out the evil rangers concept and over all I’m not as much of a single issue comics collector as I used to be I tend to gravitate towards the graphic novels the last one I got was the power rangers justice league crossover my only issue with expanded material is how people try to use it a definitive explanations for things from the show when they are more expanded universe explanations
