To people who say there band is small, i have seen this schools feild show Twice. There band covers Half the damn feild when totally spreaded out. This was there feild show song in 2012. Im never going to forget getting chills when they played how to train your dragon.

My school's band is easily two times this size- maybe even three- and they (as much as I love them) probably couldn't play this song so well! John Powell would be very happy with this if he saw it. Good job!

There's nothing to be afraid of. The fourth band at Texas Tech's Summer Band Camp put together this exact selection together in under a week. If you have an entire concert season to prepare it, you shouldn't have any trouble, even if you are a middle school. In all honesty the piece isn't that difficult.

Highschool bands rarely involve strings, more often than not, most string instruments end up in "Orchestra", a separate class.

@Piano8myhomework you are right about many things, especially the speed. but the trumpets...i don't think that it was just one strong trumpet. if you listen close enough, you will hear that there are more trumpets playing along with them. i played this song in my band and from what i've seen, the first trumpets are supposed to be overpowering the band by just a little bit. the speed is slow.. i get that in the concert band cover, it is slower than the actual song in general, but not this slow

I'm pretty sure this piece is divided into triplets, they were meant to be slurred as well. It's a bit too... tongued? If that makes sense. (at measure fourteen is when I noticed it the most.) Just one more thing, at the measure where the saxes and other instruments are doing the background triplets, those should be a bit more pronounced. But I love the sound coming from this band! It's nice and full, and the slower part was just beautiful :D!.

@Piano8myhomework This was their first concert festival this year, so yeah it wasn't the greatest. However, at their last two festivals, they received unanimous superior ratings by all judges. They've improved a lot!

i think it may have been slightly advanced for this band.first off the conductor made it slower, and even then the flutes slurred notes all day long, and were not together. the tones of the band didn't really mesh and there was one strong trumpet carrying the rest of em. It was a great arrangement i just dont know if it's right for this band.

@miathecrazy24 I didn't mean that the first trumpets overpower the rest but that there are poor trumpet players combined with strong trumpet players and therefore weakening the whole sound Listen to 1:50 for the trumpets there are 2 out of tune ones that i can hear and one is slightly behind . I am a trumpet player and thats why i pick on them. cuz i love them.i dont wanna be mean. this is a piece that is slightly too difficult for this band and I LOVE HOW TO TRIAN YOUR DRAGON :) srry fo yelling

I think you guys did it too fast for the skill level in the band.. I know the score says what it says.. but slower is sometimes better you know? good job but I felt stressed listening because it was like... HOLY SHIT HOLD YOUR HATS BOYS WE TAKING OFF!!!
@chestericks
@chestericks 13 жыл бұрын
he did NOT slow this down by alot, this is roughly the right tempo set by the arranger. in fact, this sounds alot of better than other bands on youtube that i heard. flutes just have to watch out for the mispitches. cornets can soften down slightly, you're overtaking the melody. I'm sure it's a build up for you till it's your melody, so there must be a dynamic increase. the intensity is too strong to build up. start softer. intonation at slow part can be worked on.Still, good work but work hard!
