OKAY SO I HAVE A THEORY! In her email she sent to her fans and in a few interviews, Lorde mentioned that this album was inspired by nature. So of course the first thing that comes to my mind is happy vibes. HOWEVER, (and many others have said this) the video brings a different meaning than just a “happy summer song.” If you pay attention to the video, you will see pieces of plastic scattered along the beach. Also, Lorde is the only one in color while everyone else seem to be in bland pastels. Idk, I think she has something up her sleeve, especially because of her comment that they filmed many videos for this album. Is she misleading us to think it is a happy album when in reality it touches on the damage humankind has done to nature? Will it be about how civilization has strayed away from the “natural” elements of life?? IDKKKK BUT IM SO EXCITED

Yes I completely agree! I think it's going to be a contrast between the fact that her life has had an upturn and she's not sad like she was during the Melodrama era but despite her life getting better, climate change is a real issue and it is making the rest of the world bland and depressing. That's what I think this album will be

I completely agree! Here's my thinking: in the video (and lyrics) Lorde is representing the sun (hence the yellow dress) and she is being worshipped (hence the 'prettier Jesus' line) in reference to 'sun worshippers' who ignore global warming because they enjoy the warmer weather. In other words: Lorde (the sun) is seducing people into ignoring the consequences of climate change, which explains the plastic waste scene and other hidden messages. There’s a theory that Lorde is actually portraying a cult leader in the video! The way they move and the way she compares people to Jesus, urges people to follow her and throws her phone in the water, along w the way the dancers move in sync. It’s being compared to Midsommar

Absolute pure joy to hear the lyrics "I hate the winter" going into a gorgeous feel-good song. Anyone who's ever had S.A.D. will know exactly how it feels. You can be passionate about the environment but still find it such a hard time in the dark and cold. Lorde is clearly somebody who sees the environment as very important, but also feels very human feelings in the dark and cold days. I find it fantastically relatable, and I think its brilliant she opened her song with such honesty and made it a feel good track which will brighten people's days which will not just be a summer anthem but will brighten our days every winter for years to come.
