They glow in black lights! Mine are in the cocoon phase now. They look like raccoon poop. I’m trying to find out how long they will be in this form. They still move around if the table is shifted or a loud noise startles them. But they definitely went from the size of a mealworm to the size of a small sausage. Then I thought they were dying because they were turning brown and I could see the vein in their back pulsing. So I left them alone and put them in a shelve and looked a few days later and they are now raccoon poop that moves.

If you have the room or a garden, you could grow tomatoes organically. The moths feed on nectar from flowers which isnt always easy you could also have an outside enclosure for the caterpillars to complete their life cycle.

@jameswalls2696
@jameswalls2696 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, Actually, all aspects you mention, including purchase of the worms, equals a money pit treat for your animal. Keep pet care simple, affordable and forget the expensive treats, and keep your money in your wallet. Pet keeping is supposed to be a pleasure for you and the pets and not a drain on your finances. IMHO.. A fool and his money are soon parted. The dealers are well aware of this, and take full advantage., or try to :-)

Would it be possible maybe to put the food on a higher up spot of their enclosure so the poop falls to the bottom to make it easier to dispose of and separate? I doubt the hornworms would be smart enough to distinguish food-high-poop-low-so-me-no-eat-low but maybe it would keep their food from being covered and buried as quickly. I doubt it would even be hard to engineer--maybe just have a container modified to be upside down where the lid is the bottom, mesh is glued inside with a space to tuck in food and you'd just open the lid over a trashcan to get the poop out and obviously holes poked or melted or drilled around the container itself. You could probably go extra fancy with some kind of tray setup but that would be way more work than just an upside down container. These are just questions and thoughts at the top of my head so I could very well be wrong and overthinking what you've already tried lol.
