Those looked pretty awesome. So glad people are inventing things to clean our oceans and rivers.
@anna-lenameijer99423 жыл бұрын
It all started with Boyan Slat: he went scuba diving and found more trash underneath the surface than above it. So he invented the ocean nets that catch plastic and debris with the help of the currents. The solar driven flood boats are his invention too. But if we are to succeed, we need to sort everything AT HOME, as sorting is almost impossible later in the chain. I only have very little garbage that goes to burning; everything else is recycled/composted.
@scottmackenzie-low83663 жыл бұрын
If we are to succeed, we'll need compostable bioplastics to make single use petroplastics obsolete. A newer technology called "chemical recycling" will allow us to recycle a wider spectrum of plastics, including plastics that have been 'contaminated'. But the industry is still in its infancy, and the methodology has yet to work commercially. And since you mentioned burning garbage, I should also note that chemical recycling allow us to not only turn plastics back into plastics, it can even turn plastics into fuel, which supposedly burns cleaner than traditional gasoline. At home sorting is great, but way better when your tapped into the precious plastic network, and have a local shop collect, shred, and mold your plastics into useful items.

my hope is that recyling factories become more abundant and economical.. like converting plastic back to original ingredients
@scottmackenzie-low83663 жыл бұрын
That's called chemical recycling. Which is getting some serious traction. In my opinion, we do need more chemical recycling facilities to reuse the 8.3 billion tons of petroleum based plastic that we've created since the 1950's, but we also need to invest in compostable bioplastic infrastructure, so we can transition all of our single use plastic, into nontoxic alternatives. Making new 'virgin' plastic out of fossil fuels needs to be phased out as soon as possible.

This is amazing after some of the videos I’ve seen about trying to scare you. And at 1 dollar a day for that seabin tube we need more of those. And even the more expensive machine it’s huge so it probably get tons more trash in a day then the drainage tube looking seabin. We do need to start trying to use recycle more or use less plastics. But a lot of places Atleast where I’ve lived they want to charge you per pound to recycle... and it can get expensive. Then heard some people from Wisconsin tell me that it was mandatory where they lived to separate their trash and have a recycle bin and a trash bin and they will fine you if you don’t separate it. The world needs to get all on one page or Atleast in one direction where people have more information about the subject.

it's really great... just wish that heavier plastic, found below the water's surface, could be collected as easily!

The corporations don't stop shit and won't stop shit . Same product with plastic with the same shit. Farms in a module with products with plastic, different brand with the same products competing each other and they sell us this eco idea and we swallow it. Instead of teaching us since kids to save money and don't buy shit we don't need, self esteem and recycle projects. This world is doom, it's all about money Having this boats that requieres energy that still kill the planet because people won't stop buying shit they promote everywhere, instead of having self esteem program and not having to buy all shit we see they give us this as a solution

@@havanaroad2750 People are gullible and easily impressed by these novelty projects that really aren't doing anything to protect the environment from being poisoned and choked by plastic sh*t.

Awesome ideas. I'd like to see how they dispose of the collected debris.

@Anita M You realize how little of recyclable material is actually recycled? According to the EPA, of the 267.8 million tons of municipal solid waste generated by Americans in 2017, only 94.2 million tons were recycled or composted. Sixty-six percent of discarded paper and cardboard was recycled, 27 percent of glass, and 8 percent of plastics were recycled. It's enough to make you scream. That's why I said I wonder how they'll dispose of it, because they certainly aren't recycling it aside for a small percentage.

These are all amazing innovations. We should continue to study and develop new technology that can help the nature like this for our future. ❤️😊😊👍❤️
