Stiv was a friend of mine back in the late seventies, we worked together in a factory near Youngstown Ohio. Stiv always made the day fun at work with his constant antics, he was the craziest guy I ever knew. I used to see him play at the local clubs when his first band was called “ Mother Goose “ I love his music and was lucky to have known him. I’m proud of him.

Yea he died in 1990 in his sleep after being hit by a car while crossing a street. He left the hospital because he said he felt fine and went home and died of brain injuries in his sleep. SO SAD! :(

] am here just watched the docufilm "Stiv" on Tubi. Great documentary. Lots of little cameo shots of people like Susan Sarandon, Bebe Buell, Joan Jett, etc. etc. he was always around women, because they knew that he was really a sweet, gentle guy who loved women.

I grew up in the GTHA as well, and loved CFNY ("102.1...The Spirit of Radio!"). Looking back on those days, i didn't realize how extremely fortunate we were to have a station with such knowledgeable DJs/program directors who paid close attention to the music scene in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and continental Europe much more than most stations in North America. We really got to hear the best of everything in the 70s, 80s & most of the 90s!

You're absolutely right. It was intended to warn of child predators and MTV assumed it was to glorify. A distant associate of the band was arrested and was disowned by the band who then sang of the need to protect the young around the world.

But I do recall a statement that he was never to be welcomed by the band again so some assumptions can be derived that it may have been someone in the music industry. Since then there have been public revelations about well known figures (but not musicians) facing a similar accusation. It's not difficult to conduct a quick web search about this. It would be unjust and irresponsible for me to name names.
