We visited Lubbock, Texas. Birthplace of Rock n' Roll pioneer Buddy Holly and the center of the world's biggest cotton producing region. Also home to a big colony of Prairie Dogs. Joe's Instagram: / joeysroadtrip Travel Vlog 294

My Dad trained for ww2 at Camp Barkley near Abilene. He said storms would come in from the direction of Lubbock and the rolling rain would be preceded by a dust cloud. I learned in the 90's that people down Abilene way call that event...Lubbock Comin".

I notice Bobby Keys is on the walk of fame, a saxophonist and best of friends with Keith Richards. Bobby Keys performed as a member of several horn sections of the 1970s. He appears on albums by the Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Harry Nilsson, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, George Harrison, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker and other prominent musicians.

I live in Lubbock. Thank you for being favorable. Believe me, we have homeless. I’m surprised that you didn’t see them at intersections begging. Buddy Holly and Mac Davis are buried here. I’m an alumni of Tech, but we also have Lubbock Christian University, a Wayland Baptist University branch and a South Plains College branch. Think our crime rate is high due to gangs and drugs, unfortunately. I really enjoy watching you travel around Texas and the country. Safe travels.

Is Lubbock a liberal run city?

You're pretty sheltered if you believe Lubbock has a lot of homeless. I used to live in Lubbock and by comparison to other Texas cities it would be laughable to call it a problem.

as someone who lives in lubbock, i think the crime statistics are way overblown. haven't found a part of the city i feel unsafe in. coming from california, the worst parts of lubbock are safer than some of the better parts of where i'm from. after 2 years of searching all over the country (and i was open to moving anywhere since i work remotely) i chose lubbock out of any other destination because it's a great place to raise a family and i expect property values to do very well over the next couple of decades. lubbock is going to grow massively. 5 gigabit fiber internet (most of the usa has crap internet), 170k for a brand new 3 bed 2 bath 1200 sq foot home. a top tier university and excellent food and bbq. gas stations, restaurants, businesses being built everywhere. lubbock punches far above its weight class and is a hidden gem.

Great travel At 8:30 that yellow brick build seen was once Penney's downtown . The tallest building is now living rentals . The next tall near building is now also for retirees. The red bricked streets are depression era WPA builds some detest . There's a Ranching Heritage center at TTU and a WW2 glider museum at the old airport off I- 27 N. you might check next time . Also a windmill museum is in the county . When you travel Texas do you ever see the large wind turbines actually in use ❓️ The ones on e. 50th never turn in Lubbock it seems. 🎯 On south 87 westside there's a venue which has a mighty array of old gas station signage you should cruise to. Godspeed y'all

There is the Silent Wing Warrior museum dedicated to the GLIDER PILOTS of WWII. My dad was one of those pilots and that is how I discovered it. They have an actual WWII GLIDER in the building so you can see what was used before helicopters. My Dad flew one of these gliders on D-DAY. It is located on part f the airport.

I'm from Lubbock Lubbock Born and raised. Thank you for shining your spotlight on the city. So many people hate on it who have never even been here. I personally love it because it has everything you need, but it's not difficult to get around, you can't get a new house anywhere else in the state is cheap as you can here, and the people are really nice. For entertainment Texas Tech sporting events provides a ton of entertainment.

I was born and raised in Lubbock and moved to East, TX in 1996 about 80 miles east of Big D. I left Lubbock because I got tired of all the dirt storms they were depressing, but other than that it was a great place to live. It is a trade off no matter where you go. Now I deal with super high humidity instead of the dry dusty conditions I grew up in. I have now lived slightly longer in East, TX so I guess you could say I am half West, Texan and half East, Texan. East, TX is better though!

Glad you finally did a video for Lubbock. I do love the small town videos around here, I think you have noticed all of the Quanah Parker Arrows all around that mark specific events from his life. I take my kids on weekends to different arrows and towns. Two days ago I finally took them to Buddy Holly's grave and historical sites. We live in the south of town right on the city limits, so they love it when we get to drive downtown and see stuff since we don't very often.

No shade thrown, but if you want chicken fried steak and get a chance to go back, go to The Cast Iron Grill. It's across the street from the Buddy Holly Museum. The food is the best and they're known for their chicken fried steak. Try the fried green beans and don't forget dessert. Delicious!

Hey, happy New Year! Seeing the coming attractions at the Cactus Theater, the act that piqued my curiosity is the "War Hippies" -- interesting name. Looking at their web page I got a chuckle out of how they labeled themselves--not just as a country music duo, but a "lifestyle brand" 🙂 The prairie dog park...kind of an odd "attraction". But, according to the city website, "Of all Nature's wild creatures, none is more appealing and entertaining to watch than the Prairie Dog." I kind of prefer Meerkats, but no accounting for (my) tastes, I always say. Happy trails!

I was a student in the 90's at Tech and played in the Goin' Band from Raiderland, which just represented the state in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Usually go back every year or two and the campus has grown as well as the southwest side of town. Believe that the crime is mostly in east and parts of north Lubbock. There are gangs and drugs in those areas and some college students buying them also. The weather was a bit of a break in August/September arriving on campus, since the humidity is much lower than the populated areas of Texas.
