I had a mask and snorkel combo about 60 years ago. It was a birthday gift while we were staying at Cap Estelle on the Med, near Nice. It has the exact same mechinism, for the snorkel, so when you went under at ping pong ball stopped the water from comming in. It was great.

I have been using this mask for last couple of years and I am still alive. At times I’ve been in the water for hours, exploring marine life along the coastline, no co2 poisoning and no passing out. The only thing I could ask for is the rubber nose for eaqualizing.

This mask isn't made for deep diving or diving at all. it's mostly made for snorkeling *like cruising on top of the water* i have it for 2 days now and its great but it's NOT for deep diving. i only use this mask to see whats up on the ocean floor. I got a full face snorkel mask that you can freedive with thanks to a sealed rubber pocket around the nose. Its from Body Glove. Besides that and the Sea O2, which, like the Body Glove full face mask, has a sealed rubber pocket around the nose to allow for head equalization when diving, most other full face snorkel masks, including the Triboroid that started it all back in like 2014, are designed only for the surface and just a few feet deep, just like swimming goggles and so you can't equalize the preassure in your head when diving with most of these other full face masks.

I experienced the issue with this type mask. Last year in Hawaii, casually snorkeling around a reef. I realized that it was getting harder and harder to breathe. As I realized what was happening, I rolled over to do a back float and I pulled the mask off. I was gasping for breath. It took me a minute to get back to normal. It was a very weird experience. There was no water in the mask but it felt like I had very, very little oxygen but instead was just rebreathing CO2. It was the strangest situation as the top of the snorkel was never underwater but it might as well have been while I tried to get fresh air.

My husband and I bought these masks and within 30 mins I felt that my lungs were going to burst!! Then my husband felt the same way. As an engineering expert my husband came home and did some research regarding these full face masks. He felt it was the design and the way they were manufactured. The masks ended up in the trash can!!! Four weeks ago while on a cruise we witnessed a little boy struggling in the water. He was helped back onto the boat. He told his father that he couldn’t breath through the mask and that he felt strange. His dad told him to put the mask back on. We had to intervene and explained to his dad about the reports on these masks! I will speak up even if people don’t like it!!!

I'm an experienced swimmer, I have a standard mask/snorkel and this full face mask from Tribord. I used this a lot of times: never got clogged/blurry, I never had headaches or felt dizzy. I really don't understand how I could get poisoned since I can breath normally. This mask is amazing and it is very clear to see, in rivers or sea. Maybe people bought cheap models with a different design or didn't adjust them properly and got in panic, really wanted to understand the real cause of those deaths using this kind of mask...

One thing I also discovered when using one of these is that you can’t tilt your head back to look up and breathe! (Should be obvious I know) I was in the sea and had entered the water off of a boat (just dropped in) When I came to exit the water, every time I tilted my head back to look up at people in the boat and find the steps, the mask suddenly would get sucked to my face. I did panic a little at first but soon realised it was because the little ball rolls to the end of the breather tube and seals it off. (This was with my head and the breather tube out of the water by the way) Very disconcerting if you’re not expecting it. Great masks though.

Actually that's not strictly accurate. With the old goggle and breather tube type of snorkeling kit you could just push the tube out of your mouth and breath normally if it was the type with a ball seal or just breathe normally if not. I'm obviously not talking about when you're actually floating in the water here but when exiting the water on a high sided boat.Once I got used to that effect it wasn't an issue and I found the mask ok although I must admit like you I actually prefer the old type (with no ball seal). I kept asking in the retail outlets if you could "Valsalva" with it but none of the sports shops knew what I was talking about ! So if you cannot valsalva then you cannot equalise the pressure in your eustachian tube and you can get a very bad headache if you leave the surface. The Valsalva maneuver or Valsalva manoeuvre is performed by moderately forceful attempted exhalation against a closed airway, usually done by closing one's mouth, pinching one's nose shut while pressing out as if blowing up a balloon. People trolls that claim that you die from CO2 build up are fools. It is a snorkel, so you are not supposed to HOLD the exhumed breath in your mask,youare supposed to REFRESH it THROUGH your OPEN snorkel with the outside air. A mistake is when you might go so deep that you try to breathe through a 5 metre hose for in and outair and that is obviously too long to REFRESH your exhumed air in the hose. BUT YOU ARE NOT 1850's DEEP DIVING WITH A HOSE !! You are SNORKLING !!! Finally the deep diving with this mask for as long as you can hold your breath: that is EXACTLY IT; for as LONG AS YOU ARE COMFORTABLE you can dive deeper. Wether it is your lungs that signal that you need fresh air, OR the pressure suck on your face/eyeballs that makes it uncomfortable: YOU know IMMEDIATELY when that ocvcurs and you IMMEDIATELY can act and go upwards. NO PROBLEMO.

Another good thing about the full facers are that these are super useful when you're installing a jet spout in the pool since you can just be on the surface and just breathe normally. I will admit, that I'm more accustomed to the trad masks since one can easily be able to be upside down underwater when doing handstands or practicing synchronized swimming manuevers.

This kind of mask should be banned as they are dangerous, 2 common problems are. First, they market this mask for beginners since it's easy breathing, and exactly those people are the ones that have problems and panic when the mask starts to leak water in, adding the way this mask sits in your face makes it hard to remove while in panic. Secondly, they have 2 one way valves, it's not so uncommon to lose 1 of them without noticing, this will increase your dead air space and will make you continuously breath in part of the exhaled air, equalizing is the least problem.

Just a thought: do you think that it is possible that death due to this mask could be due to the ball not coming back in place ( the safety ball that prevents breathing when the mask is under water) and the person not being able to breath when back up, and the struggle to get the mask off to breathe could be the actual cause?

I really like full faced snorkel masks. But make sure, you don't buy one that's made cheaply. People have actually DIED from CO2 buildup in those cheaply made full faced masks. I would recommend to get a full face mask from a reputable brand that has a proven well working design, like a Triboroid or a Ninja H2O. They may be more expensive than most other face masks they got on the net. But buying a proven safe design can save your life.

Darius Villa I don't see how people would get CO2 buildup snorkeling. As long as you're able to inhale and exhale air it's all good. In case the mask is clogged for some weird reason you'll notice it instantly. I've used the cheapest version that runs on AliExpress and eBay. No reason imo to spend more on this kind of mask. Unless your planning to dive with it frequently, but as stated in the review here, this product is not designed for that.

They don't seem to work as designed. You breath in it works as designed but when you breath out instead of the air going out the bottom check valve it get around the part that covers your mouth and goes out the snorkel causing the the mask to fog up and CO2 to build up. Needs a check valve at the snorkel.

Well the pool I use is at most 6 feet deep and its at my university. But its Olympic sized swimming pool. It also has a 16 foot deep diving well, but you have to be part of a certain team or have special permission to use it.

Hi there, I also have a similar full face mask. Although it is really comfortable and great for watching the bottom, It is a bit hard to dive as Christian has mentioned due to mask squeeze. Another issue is that there is too much air in the mask that the mask pulls your head up when you try diving. It is also visible in the video that one has to put extra effort into keeping their heads (and the mask) at the bottom when diving. So it is definitely not ideal for diving. When compared to regular snorkeling gear, it is more comfortable, allows better vision and nevertheless looks and feels cooler. However, I think it is a bit specific for only watching the sea life. You can use a regular snorkel for every activity you will do with this mask, but not the other way around with the mask. To sum up, if you already have a regular snorkel I think you might give this a try. Otherwise, I guess you should go for the regular one.

Slow and steady wins the race. Don‘t do tables too often, max 3 times a week. When you do you could deplete your iron levels in the blood. Then its even harder to hold your breath and you get the feeling that its not working. So my advice would be pause 1 week and then do tables every 3 days.

progression is slow for breath holding the 1st gains you get in 1st weeks is bc of learning proper technics physiological adaptations are slow to learn i did the O2 and CO2 tables, but later i changed to dynamic apnea, because i hit my limits I'm stuck at 3~4min statics, and 1min dynamic (apnea walk and underwater swimming) don't be frustrated, just change your focus on making gains on other things like learning proper streamlining, DNF or DYN ...etc

There is a separate snorkel mask available that gives same 180 view..i used that classic snorkel mask in my early years..the history of the full face mask is just too disturbing to me..its easier to have a separate mask and snorkel in case of emergency

The Co2 builds up and it becomes super dangerous. Regular snorkelers don't have the same build up.

Classical masks / snorkels do need some explainations and training. This kind of solution does too, danger is that marketing lets people think they do not need any training to use it (plus it adds risks classical solutions don't) while it is false. People dying because they think a technical solution can make them avoid to compensate their incompetence by learning is some kind of positive natural selection though.

If you do not know how to ride the bike, do not do biking. If you do not know how to ski, do not do skiing. And if you do not know how to do snorkeling, do not do snorkeling with this gizmo. If you want really do snorkeling, learn how to do it with a normal mask and snorkel. This is only safe way.

Hmm, I'm not a great swimmer, I have only snorkeled twice in my life, but I am fairly confident that I can take a full faced mask, read the directions that clearly state not to dive, and happily float on the surface looking down into the water. These masks are not a substitute for not being able to breath underwater, anyone with any common sense should know that you can't get fresh air underwater with a mask on.

Looking up this video because I have a 5 year old who is obsessed with being able to look under the water ; she has a set of goggles for the tub and for the pool but they both are bad quality and I'm looking to upgrade for her. . Obviously she won't really ne using it for the snorkeling as much as just being able to look under the water[always supervised by her 2 parents in a shallow public pool she can stand in the entirety of..... ty for the video.

Most people dive with the snorkel in their mouths, which is an unsafe way to dive. i guess this mask is good to beginner with snorkeling. Diving beyond 5~10meters without freediving training is dangerous and can cause barotauma lot of people never heard about the dangers, and end with hearing and ears issues.

Neo inoue 9886, you don't know what you're talking about you can't call a practice that can cause death and injuries safe sure alot of average people can dive with a snorkel in their mouth, but that doesn't make it not dangerous read any certified freediving manul like AIDA's or Apnea International and you'll find a warning about diving with a snorkel in your mouth in case of a shallow water blackout, the water will get directly in your mouth and mb down your lungs, while withought a snorke, most of the time, water won't get into your mouth that easily
