I like the theory that the mimics are the surviving oolacile resident who were punished for digging up the body of manus. The Serpent that tempted them into greed was kaathe. The darkwraithes themselves are greedy stealing the humanity from anyone they can. In addition the body shape and voice of the oolacile resident and the mimic is very similar.

Not a bad take honestly! That specific body shape seems to be kind of like Miyazaki's giant hand fetish, cause we also see that morphology in the creatures that Bleed Damage the crap out of you in No Man's Wharf, those things that are afraid of fire. Also, mundane observation, the creatures in A Quiet Place are also reminiscent of that. CONNECTION!?!?! No. Just a fun creature design.
