One little correction on Malekith taking the credit for meeting the dwarfs over the other elf. that original Elf was a minor noble, who tried to *downplay* malekith as some unimportant minor Lord. He had tried to hide this by speaking in the dwarf tongue but malekith's retainers had quickly picked up on the language and caught the disrespect. So Malekith went in big dick swinging and upstaged the Noble. However, Malekith had one of his retainers assassinate him after the fact and only once he'd rendered the Noble so unimportant that the dwarfs forgot he was there. the only reason Malekith had him killed was because the Noble had insulted him so blatantly. the retainer had even made sure to mention that Malekith would have shared the glory had the noble paid him proper respects.

I had always thought that part of the reason Malakeith behaves like such a dumbass is that he really was supposed to be the next King after his father (kinda confirmed by end times) and that part of the way Chaos warped him is by showing them (part) of the truth. In this case Malakeith must be the next King. Or maybe thats just how I cope with the dumb stuff from the end times.

Yeah, like i think maybe he threw himself in the fire because he saw the future so he thought he could get away with it, since he was destined to be king. It is still a very dumb move though.

@@erikp5393 Yeah, to me its that classic Chaos thing of showing you a truth but twisting it so you make the wrong choice and doom yourself. Like i think it may have showed him that he is the rightful king (true) That Bel Shannar is not the rightful king and doesnt actually have the approval of the elven gods (true he cheated the fire test) and that if a pretender wears the crown then they will be cursed and make dumb choices which will doom all elves (true war of beard). All this being said, the answer to solving this problem was definitely not killing all the other nobles and then expecting to not be burned.

There is no point in trying to justify the unjustifiable, the End times no make any sense. If Malekith were to be the legitimate heir, failing the test and breaking all the rules should have disqualified him if there was any kind of consistency. If breaking the rules doesn't matter and has no effect why do they exist in the first place? It's not like Malekith learned something from his failure or grew as a person or anything. If I were to look for external causes for his failure, could look less at the chaos and more at the curse of the Widowmaker, which he would inherit from Aenarion. By logic Malekith should be much more cursed than Tyrion and Teclis who come from a son that Aenarion had before wielding the cursed sword and yet they are cursed. That would condem him to fulfill the second part of the prophecy, dividing the elves, which he ends up doing with the Sundering following for eternal civil war. Although in the text there does not seem to be any power influencing Malekith, only stupidity and an absolutely ridiculous lack of self-control. The End Times makes no sense and the less you think about it the better. In fact, some passages in AoS even contradict the idea of Malekith as the legitimate heir and talking about ancient elves kings with divine power.

On the latter part, high elf society seems like it really sucks and elfs are super petty. Young elfs leaving ulthuan over some grievance or lack of opportunity (because immortals never retire) might find a place in the land of vengeance against ulthuan.

Damn i got some heavy flashbacks just now to when I read the high elf army book twenty or something years ago. I remember how tedious the druchii felt, though I could never really put my finger on why at the time. Pieces are falling somewhat more into place now, so thank you.

You got the main plot points with this vid but I think you are missing a bit of the nuance ( a lot of the nuance imo) - like when you get to the part where you talk about Malekith going into the Flame of Asuryan and getting burned - that doesn't happen because he has been judged unworthy or because he did anything wrong - it happens because thats what the flame does, when his father Aenarion sacrifices himself and goes into the flames to try and appease the gods it not like he just walks out unscathed he literally burns, dies and is reborn and healed then emerges as the Avatar of Asuryan hence the name Phoenix King, you are meant to die and be reborn like a Phoenix Malekith leaves the flames early because he himself doesn't think he is worthy and he is struggling with his own conception of himself and what he thinks has to be done for the Elves to survive The other Phoenix Kings are not actually ever the Avatar of Asuryan because they all cheat using magic to prevent themselves from actually burning also for most of this vid you seem to be implying Malekith is evil which is another surface level interpretation - Malekith values strength and despises weakness, his vision for the elves is one where their entire society is remade to reject weakness as he understands it, he isn't evil (at least not to his framing) he thinks he is doing what has to be done for the Elves to eventually win against Chaos, does he want power? Yes but that doesn't make him evil, he thinks that the throne ought to belong to him. The Phoenix King is literally the only elected role in all of Ulthuan he thinks that it should have passed to him like every other hereditary role

Every evil person never thinks they are evil and that they just do what needs to be done. But after all morality is subjective and if malekiths actions appear to be evil from human boys perspective then he can call him evil.

Yeah except in this setting there are actual evil factions (Chaos) which Malekith is directly working against for the most part - he may be harsh and of course he does bad / evil things but describing him as evil or irredeemable for what he does is just a shallow interpretation of a much more complex character@@zeggsy0554

he was willing to risk sinking ulthuan and dooming the world in the process just to win he made his kingdom slavers who do blood sacrifices daily he betrayed the dwarfs and caused both then and the high elfs to be permanently weakend so chaos and greeskins could take over more of the world you need to be on the same shit the end times writers were on to consider him not evil

Excellent point and one which really helps to tie together the end times. Though perhaps the pain he felt was an actual punishment for his crimes. I think thats the best story at least. Mally is the one true king denied his throne. This will lead to disaster for the elves so he should be king. But chaos warps his mind so he thinks he should take the throne by breaking the laws of the gods. Still if he actually endured the fire he would still have been reborn as the new king. This fits warhammer elfs perfectly.

Malekith being the only true Phoenix King has been retconned as of AoS Lore (and good thing that it has). In AoS, Morathi breaks open Slaanesh's belly to feed on the souls of previous Phoenix Kings in order to ascend to Godhood.

I like Orochimaru, but you are 100% correct about his character archetype. He is even the peak example because he goes onto be redeemed and becomes a 'good guy'. With all the crazy shit thats happening in Boruto right now, I can't help but wonder where the fuck is he? Amado clearly has replaced him as the 'all knowing, always prepared science guy'. But I still want to see what Orochimaru thinks about these interdimensional aliens who basically have the same motivations that he did when he was evil...

The only time I ever play Dark Elves, it always has to be Tularis (Mixu) because I cant stand all the edge on the vanilla lords. Whilst being a guy, I am of course drawn to the "aesthetics" of the faction, I just cant stand the edginess of Mr Mommy Issues, Crazy Pet Man, or The Ultimate Schizophrenic. Just gimee the guy that gets crap done to lead my armies full of naked ladies.

Malekith's attempt to become a phoenix king was even stupider than I thought. Druchii numbers remain meaningless, as always. Morathi: "There is a terrible cost in what I do that I will have to pay one day." 6,000 years later she continues without paying, after the end of the world she continued without paying any price and in AoS she is a goddess who is no longer linked or subject to Slaanesh in any way.

I play a Druchii in Larp. And I love it. But I wholeheartedly agree, they are horrible to read about. The Malus books are such a struggle (damn I hate that guy) and yea the numbers don´t make sense at all and I just try not to think about it or apply logic to this society (like they are so hateful, that they have any kids at all is a miracle). But that´s just Warhammer. The numbers never make sense.
