The Judge has to agree to that plea and most don't even allow it without supporting evidence. And even then, the chances of being acquitted due to temporary insanity is so remote, that it barely qualifies being valid. It almost never works. It'd be a waste to even go that route for his defense. And let's be honest, you're not going to make a movie about a good hospital. It's good to hear that there are good ones, here in Argentina they are shit holes. @C GI Mental Hospitals in the US have a bad reputation because they were horrible. There was multiple news reports showing the squalid conditions and the treatment of the patients. They were overcrowded and staff would regularly mistreat patients. That's why you saw most of them close in the 80's. Chris isn't going to a mental hospital. He's not that ill. Those beds are almost always full with waiting lists. He doesn't deserve a bed at a mental hospital. He'll probably get a social worker, they'll help him out with a group home/section 8 apartment. He won't be able to see Barb again, he'll have less money than he did before all this, and he'll get fatter and older.

What Chris said in this letter obviously came from what they have been told by their lawyer, Heilberg, who doesn't even know what he's talking about when it comes to Barb. Barb is a master manipulator. She doesn't have dementia. She faked it in those videos. If she really has dementia, then she wouldn't have been allowed to live on her own after Chris's arrest and she wouldn't have been allowed to still be a licensed driver. It is important to remember that Barb has been an extremely toxic and manipulative person her entire life, using everyone she knows to her advantage, and after Bob's death, she's certainly been playing up her feebleness in order to get sympathy/get Chris to do things for her. There are numerous instances in videos post-Bob's death that she's walked into not realising Chris is recording, and she would converse normally with him, right up to the point when she realised she was on camera, then put on her 'dementia riddled elder' persona on immediately.
