Aside the jokes, Luke is a man's man. Trustworthy, caring, and good. Lorelai had to be blind for years due to plot. Any other woman would love him day 1. He showed great character during stuff for his late father, taking in the nephew, Jess?... And helping everyone.. EVERYONE who needed it throughout entire show. Sad that today's young women, especially in the USA, only talk money, body count, looks etc. Otherwise, there's a lot of good men like Luke out there

ALSO-how on earth have they been together for 10 years and they hadn't discussed anything remotely close to marriage and children when they had talked about those things around a year after they got together the first time?? I wasn't planning on getting into it here but screw it-the revival felt like what the Palladinos wanted to do for season seven, which is fine! Except that it's not season seven-it's 10 years after season seven and so much of this revival doesn't make sense with the characters (and actors) being 10 years older. Especially Rory's arc-I feel like it works better if it had actually been season seven rather than where she is now, a decade later. However, Emily's arc (and part of Lorelai's arc) were really well done because the Palladinos were forced to adapt to the death of Edward Herrmann. Emily had some beautiful character development, and she really evolved in the face of adversity. Her arc felt like where her character could or would be 10 years after the end of the show, not what the Palladinos wanted to do with her in season seven. Anyways, if you read this far into my rant, thanks and here's a cookie

Totally agree with you on that. They both talked about having kids to other people and each other. I always thought the revival would have them married and pregnant. I do however see how them being their age would make that make less sense and maybe they didn't want to introduce a new character we hadn't met by having them have a child between then and now but it would have made more sense if they were struggling with fertility issues than having never talked about it. You're right that this dynamic seems very frozen in time. I would have hoped that the two of them would have gotten stronger and healthier as a couple. It seems kind of crazy that living together for a decade wouldn't change them.

I think Lorelai might have been a little gun shined to ask. She tried to elevate their relationship before and they ended up breaking up. I think for 10 years they played it safe. Both afraid to actually bring up something serious out of fear that they would break up again. Her father's death and Emily's actions have finally got lorelai to realize they needed to take the leap.

I have many, many issues with the revival (except for the parts mainly influenced by Edward Herrmann's death-basically Emily's whole storyline and part of Lorelai's), but I really loved this scene and the wedding scene. Though I do wish Luke proposed this time to show a little more of his character's agency. I love this speech and how he's actively choosing Lorelai, but it also sounds like he'll change anything and everything about himself for her as part of that choice, and I don't believe that's what Lorelai would want. All that being said, this scene is one of the revival highlights for me, and Scott Patterson's performance is excellent here.

In an itv before the diffusion, Scott talked about a few scenes (included this one but with no saying what was in it) that he felt very powerfull as an actor to play. And he thought that people would be very mooved when seeing it. He was really right.

So is his scene about never having kids, and I mean never. April was shoved into the last season ASP had control over almost almost as an afterthought, and has one scene in the revival, which is weird considering she's _Luke's daughter._ Hell, she's not even at the wedding. She's a non-character, as far as I'm concerned. (And a lot of us.) Luke says to Lorelai to settle the subject, "Well, you don't always get everything you want in life." I never had kids, even though I wanted them, for multiple reasons I had no control over. So yeah, that scene meant a lot. Luke didn't get everything he wanted, and that's okay. For all of us for whom children didn't happen.

I really didn’t watched the revival nor enjoy it, all the characters turned different, the writers changed them so much it just didn’t felt right, it didn’t felt the same, and I know the original series was years ago but Lauren and Scott, as much as they’re really good actors, their chemistry was totally gone and the writers messed up their relationship so much, like they didn’t got married and had any kids for years nor discussed it, even though in the original series a year after getting together, they got engaged and talked about them wanting kids so it doesn’t make any sense, and I’m not mentioning about how Rory ended up, idk it was painful watching it

I agree with almost everything. Scott and Lauren were excellent as was their chemistry. You know what I realized watching the show for the 10th time I believe? The writers got really lucky with the cast. They landed on extremely talented actors who took upon themselves their characters, hence the huge success of the show. The storyline is messed up and many things are unnecessary. The audience would much rather watch the peaceful life of Luke and Lorelai, watch them develop together and individually,instead they kept finding ways to disrupt whatever was going on. They even messed up the first kiss scene like come on!

Agree, that whole thing with him not understanding what surrogacy is, completely ridiculous! Luke was not a stupid man. He always knew what was going on in the world, was street smart. He also was not weak or spineless... But in his scenes with Emily that is how he appears. Ridiculous! After putting up with her for 10 years he certainly would have learned to fight back against her pushiness, instead of following her like a puppy dog looking for another location. Writers did his character wrong ! He is still my favorite though 😍

Why? It shows how assuming is never good and makes sense for all the build up stress he was having. That was him speaking what he's been thinking for days a 1000 mph. The fact that he would do anything for her to help her feel better is sweet and thankfully he's in a relationship where she didn't want that. She just wanted him just the way he is. I had this goal and I've found my luke where both would do anything for the other person to help them be happy but we love each other just the way we are. She had no desire to change him which is why it is so cute! All he did was confirm her assumption that they should be married because he will always be there for her and she wants to be there always for him.

"I franchise my diner if that's who you want me to be." - something that Luke NEVER wanted nor wants now. He's only saying this because he's afraid of losing her. Let me get this straight, it's amazing that they want to make each other happy. However, you shouldn't compromise who you are just to keep someone by your side. And at least how it's shown in the revival, Luke has given up A LOT just to satisfy Lorelai while she's kind of still in the same place where she was. She didn't really change her life for him except the extension they got in her house which was during the original series. But that's about it

She and Emily do the same thing. He says he doesn't want something and she goes "Yes you do. " and starts moving. He gives in a lot because most things she harps on don't matter to him as much as being with her. The issue is when he does put his foot down on something she acts like a spoiled child cause she's used to getting her way, but no one ever calls her on it. Ever.

But frankly even if he did tell her and followed it up with "I need time to get this sorted out before I bring her around here to meet you." She would still have been hurt and still would have made it a big deal. She still would have not been honest about how she felt, she still would have pretended everything was ok and she still was gonna hit him with that ultimatum out of the blue. Lorelai is used to putting people on the back burner. She's not used to being put there by others, even if there's a good or understandable reason.

I hated everything about this revival and this scene is one of the reasons. Throughout the whole show, Luke always gave into whatever Lorelai wanted and thought the world of her to the point where he seemed to have no self-respect. Obviously she wasn’t leaving him in this scene, but the fact that he begged her to stay annoys me. I’m all for being vulnerable and for trying to work things out but I just wish he’d stand up to her more. He’s too insecure and that ruined the relationship in my opinion.

Well there wasn’t much else in the revival to like. The revival was not very good. Scott also said that if he had known how the script was going to go and the direction his character was heading he may not have done it. He was not happy that Luke did not do the proposing this time to that they didn’t have the wedding that fans had been waiting for.

This whole revival plot was shit, writers ruined the characters essence, the series heart & everything seemed forced, messy & the storyline didnt make sense at all. This is the exact reason why Friends writers didnt want to make a revival bc they knew exactly where to end in order to not ruin the project. And here we see, GG was completely torn down bc the writers/ producers didnt make the best choices. The only beautiful development was Emilys story, she became soft, vulnerable & after Richards death it was beautiful how she embraced life. 🫠🫠🫠
