Richard was a viper working in a den of fellow vipers, his behavior was no more surprising than Lorelei's reaction to it. Sure enough, she showed that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree by how she treated Jason, same as she treated Max and Luke. The entire Gilmore clan is actually pretty dreadful.

@palaceofwisdom9448 No one is worse than Lorelai & Rory. You pointed out how bad Lorelai was with the men in her life. So was Rory. But Richard & Emily, sans their brief separation, were a wonderful team who supported and took care of each other. That was proven time & again.

Emily was right, Jason's reasons for working with Richard were so petty and childish, nothing good could come out of it. Yes, his father was horrible, but instead of make him an enemy he should have gone somewhere else, other careers, other place, away from him...

Yea but she had a point that Richard wasn’t treated well by his workplace who forced him out and they could have settled things better instead of going after Jason
@m.layfette62495 ай бұрын
This entire situation was orchestrated by Jason's father. Richard and Jason's new business was pulling away clients, large clients away from the industry. Jason took the opportunity to partner with Richard to strike out on his own and to payback his father for years/decades of abusive/manipulative behavior. Anyway, Jason only started dating Lorelei because he knew it would ultimately make her parents upset. An enticement for Lorelei all the way. After a few months, Jason wanted to take the relationship further, just as he and Richard's business was beginning to prosper. Because of Jason's disrespectful behavior towards his father, Richard ultimately decided to kick Jason out and partner with his former company. "Better the devil you know."

I understand why Richard did what he did. But in season 2 his former employers didn't think twice before denigrating him, ignoring him. Lorelai said it best: "That job was killing him". And now they threaten him and try to take everything from him 0:41. What more proof do you need that this company are bad people? Richard says he isn't choosing anyone. To me, that's the problem. Make a choice and stay away from those people. But okay, what's done is done. He did what he did to preserve his life. Richard Gilmore is neither the first nor the last person in the world who has to work for someone mean in order to provide for his family. Like I said, I understand. Still, the least he could do is show some remorse and empathy, admit what you did was wrong (a necessary evil is still an evil). Don't accuse your daughter of being selfish when you go back to work for the selfish ones.

@rogueryder3285 The relationship with Lorelai and her parents was never healed, tbh. They learned to coexist because of Rory. The closest Richard came to actually apologizing was in the last episode where he told Lorelai that he regretted her having to leave their house in order to build a good life in stars hollow. Sure, it wasn't a traditional apology, but it's more than Emily ever gave.

So glad Lorelai got to voice exactly what Richard do to Jason, it was cruel. We understand why, yes but it doesn't make it any less cruel. AND when has Lorelai EVER 'chosen'/'picked' a boyfriend over her family? That was a low blow and completely untrue. She was explaining what Richard did to Jason, and how that for some reason is choosing him. She is completely right and he is is completely wrong. Maybe screwing Jason over was the only way to save 'everything he's worked for', but to criticize Lorelai for SEEING Jason's side is wrong.

So let me get this straight, Emily and Richard separated because of Jason and Lorelai??
@davidwilds8647Ай бұрын
They'd just gotten their daughter back after 15 years not too long ago, Richard had forced Lorelai into a really difficult position and didn't even have the decency to admit that he'd done so, the comment about "I didn't expect any different" was uncalled-for and bitchy, and then when Emily tells him that she's afraid this will drive Lorelai away and Rory with her, Richard dismisses her concern. It's very difficult to live with someone who only accepts their own perspective and refuses to take yours seriously. For Emily to admit that verbally she's worried about something means deep down she's freaking out, and he completely dismissed her. Not only that, **he told her to go.** They just got her back, things were still fragile, and he told her to go. He knows how important it is to Emily that they manage to have a relationship with Lorelai and Rory again, and still he told Lorelai to go, very dismissively I might add.

Richard secret lunches with his ex-fiancée, missing important events like a friend’s funeral for golf, and the disrespect Emily felt in their relationship led to their separation. Jason was just a contributing factor.
