Perfectly put, swerve1960. I agree with you 100%. These music box videos let us hear just what the Victorians heard. Wonderful.

Oh, Thank you so much for this performance. I believe the Mira and the Stella to be the best disc players for tone. This song I have been learning more about and love it. I will say the arrangement of Adeste Fidelis for the Regina is the best I have ever heard. I also just recently Heard Loreley Played on the Regina. It has its own special arrangement and ton,e but the Mira knocks it out of the park. Keep posting, you have a diehard fan here.

It is really pleasant and enjoyable to hear the melody of Lorelei. Oh! What a wonderful melody. I congratulate and praise one who programmed this music-box. In some antique tall case striking clocks the built in music-box mechanism played melody played melody just before or soon after striking the hours on bell or gong (either straight rod or thick and hard coiled wire that sounds like large church bell). Nowadays these types of music-boxes and chiming clocks are electronically imitated by some quartz clocks because they contains circuit board of electronically recorded and programmed sound chips connected to speaker. Even some electronic door bells too contains such a circuit board connected to speaker that electronically reproduces the same.

Thanks so much, as always, for the nice and always interesting comments, Sarah. You're fortunate to have seen some of Germany even as a child. I imagine there are some very interesting and beautiful sights there including the Loreley.

Loreley would appreciate this fine recording. She is sitting on a rock at the rhine river watching the ships passing by. Unfortunately she sings very lovely and some fishermen loose their lives as they pass by crashing their ships on the rock. She has golden hair and combs her hair. Just like the Greek Sirene.

Set the speed to 0,75. That's the best option for everybody to sing along to the German lyrics if available.

This beautiful song was banned by the Nazis because the poet Heinrich Heine who wrote the words to a "Lorelei" poem, which was later set to this music was Jewish.
