Basically what I got from Archaon's story was that he skimmed read the book and missed the most important part which disclosed what his destiny should have been and because of one of the chaos gods tampering with the signal strength of Sigmar's divine phone, Archaon went on a multi year rampage after blocking Sigmar's number.

Fuck yeah, my favorite character. Dude was a badass templar, goes insane after reading some prophecy about a guy named Archaon destroying the world, ragequits the Empire and becomes Archaon (fulfilling the prophecy), and brings the world to the edge of destruction. Not for the glory of chaos, though; as he still hates it. No, he's destroying the world because in doing so he would destroy everything; including the Chaos gods. He's driven by nothing but sheer, indiscriminate rage at everything. He's the fantasy version of an angrymarine, and I fucking love it.

On the 'why Grimgor is fighting Archaeon': Basically; Grimgor comes up to the Elves with the biggest WAAAAGH ever, literally all the Greenskins. ALL of them. Malakeith more or less says: "Grimgor; you're da best. We'll join your WAAAGH. But that git Archeon is mouthin' off and says e'z da best. You should go krump him'; because Malakeith apparently understands Orc psychology. Grimgor thinks for a moment. And basically says 'All right, let'z Krump dis Archeon'. And Grimgor basically ends up winning, because he forces Archeon to call upon the deamon to win. He needs *backup*. Grimgor is truely Da Best.

I would absolutely love to see a Warriors of Chaos rework centered around questing for Archaon's relics as a short win condition and then destroying the mortal realms as the long win condition. Especially now that we're getting an expanded map including Cathay and the demon realms. It would be a huge undertaking to be sure, but what if they made it as a capstone to the franchise?

I can't remember where I heard it but I heard a version of the story of Archaon where the contents of the tome he acquired were left vague, only saying that it caused Archaon to fly into a bloody rage, cursing everything he knew and the gods he had loved, storming out of the night. It's my favorite version of the story as it leaves room for imagination and interpretation and it's downright weird that that a devout Sigmarite would trust anything inside a chaotic tome, even if it's his own life story + prophecy, isn't it common knowledge amongst sigmarites that the ruinous powers are tricksters, never to be trusted in any capacity? Also Sigmar just abandoning Archaon in his moment of need? That makes no sense, surely Sigmar would have half the mind to comfort him so he can turn his back on the chaos gods. Makes more sense to me that Archaon would discover some truth, known only to him and the gods he choses to champion would lead him to abandon Sigmar and Ulric rather than the other way around. And even then I feel Archaon should be protrayed as 'serving' the chaos gods begrudgingly, only really using them in his own way to bring about the end of the world. That's just me.

According to the “time ends” Sigmar couldn’t talk to him at that moment because he was trapped in the Great Vortex by the chaos god of knowledge and trickery. And expected Archaon to stop being babied and think for himself. It would be better if he did more research than just the tome alone before he turned his back on his god

Thing is though, Archaon is not exactly a beacon of purity before he reads the book. He is the product of a forced union between the chaos worshipping norscans and an empire woman. True he tries to save his former colleagues from the abuse of their knight and master but he is prideful and, in a way blinded by his faith in sigmar. He also assumes a false identity for personal gain. Hardly an honorable deed. The way i like to think of it, the presence of Sigmar he always felt growing up was in fact the presence of Tzeentch who, knowing the prophecy of the everchosen would delight in helping to bring it about. I imagine Tzeentch playing on Archaon's pride, whispering in his ear and swelling his ego and then when he needs a sign from his deity most, Tzeentch withdraws from his mind leaving it empty. I always thought of Sigmar as being more of an austere deity anyhow. Remember that in life he was an unflinching warrior (Also vain and prideful) who valued strength above all else. I reckon Sigmar considered him nothing more than another cursed soul. In the old world story line, Sigmar was not the all powerful deity he is in AOS. Most powerful human deity sure, but definitely not infallible.

So... now he read a book, and instead of... oh I don't know... asking his friends and wise men of the order: "Hey! there is this dark wicked creepy book we got the last week from OUR MORTAL ENEMIES... and as I'm reading it, I discover it to describe my whole life... is it some scheme? is this some magic? Guys? Can we get someone competent to do research on that? Oh I dunno, maybe it's an enchanted tome which was supposed to deceive me? After all we took it from our MORTAL ENEMIES, guys!" ;) Nope! He just asks Sigmar to: "Explain this shit, cause I don't get that book yo!" and when he does not answer... Archaon ragequits?! This is so weak... Imagine some Instagram stalker writes you a post about your entire life, and you, being confused, quit your job to become a ninja... That scene was no gradual process, no effort to ask questions that any reasonable person would (I don't mean a genius, but just bare basic cog-work in ya' head)... He read a book... he consulted an artifact of dark powers, he knew well to be dangerous and deceiving... and all it took to push him over the edge was "he had a feeling"? I'm sorry but it shows me that either his faith was never really strong, or that scene was just rushed to get on with the story, but sadly, downplaying that arc aaand making Archaon look bit silly :/ Still great episode, mate. :)

The book is an unholy artifact of ruinous powers, known for deceiving, corrupting and braking people into their mindless thralls with use of such exact artifacts! And Kastner (Archaon) is that professional who belongs to the order that deals with this shit on almost everyday basis! :P Come ooon... His not working in a plumber-division of the Sigmarite order, it's not like he took a sick leave the exact day they they had classes on "How to handle dangerous artifacts and creepy dark tomes"... in regards of pronounciaiton: the "Th" in Roth would most likely be pronounced "Rot" and the "i" in Schild is more comparable with "e" in english. Basically: Rotshield from a pronounciation PoV (but i in Schild is quicker than the ie in Shield)... I hate trying to explain pronounciation :D

Why the hell would Sigmar not intervene? All he had to do was provide some tiny sign, just the barest hint to him and he would probably have never started down that dark road. I'll chalk it up to convenience for the sake of forcing the end times in order to start their Age of Sigmar franchise.

Archeon was never good. He only did good things to please someone else, like sigmar. He never cared for others. They were just a means to an end. This is why even religious people IRL tell others to do good things "for goodness's sake". If you need an almighty person to tell you to be good, then you were never good to begin with. Archeon wasn't satisfied with the carrot that Sigmar gave so he chose to follow the better carrot of chaos, since the book convinced him that sigmar was the weaker of the gods and thus provided the lesser reward, which is what he really cared about all along. The entire warhammer series and 40k as well is a giant critique of acting in the name of authority alone. There needs to be a more well grounded motivating philosophy other then just liking a guy a lot(emperor/sigma/god), otherwise you're forced to be motivated by incentives(where chaos wins) or by just sheer logicless volitile emotions(where chaos also wins).

Question - Is Archaon's helm part of the Armour of Morkar? I remember reading somewhere that it was but then where does the Crown of Domination then fit in?

1. Archaons helmet is a part of the armor of Morkar 2. The Crown of Domination is more of a circlet of iron (not to be confused with Malekith's Circlet of Iron) that painfully injected spikes into his skull (very painful when I read the 2nd Archaon book) and he puts it on before he puts on the helmet, the crown aligns with the hole in the helmet for the Eye of Sheerian for even better foresight

The thing about Archaon that I appreciate: He was willing to address the falseness of his own gods (Sigmar was a unmatched warrior, absolutely. There's a reason he's held in a deity status). The thing I'm disappointed about: Archaon literally abandoned his god, in search of a form, or deity, of more power. Which, in turn, relinquished his own faith.. By following any of the ruinous powers, you subject yourself to absolute, and complete control.
