Very unlucky for Mpetshi Parricard to not win at least one of the breakers. It was a 50-50 match with next to nothing between them. Just literally decided by a point in each set. Surely up there with the most competitive straight set matches ever where either player could've won on a shootout point. And given Musetti's varied play style, he may well be just as dangerous on grass as he is on clay.

It's been definitely the fastest court on the tour ever since they switched to grass. They only measure court speed at the bigger tournaments (ATP 500 and higher), but it's obvious that no other tournament, including all other grass court tournaments, comes close to this speed. Wimbledon plays like a clay court compared to this.

It's strange that Perricard's favourites are Nadal and Roland Garros. He looks like his coach was stuck in the 1980s. Even tall guys like him play modern tennis these days. This boom boom style, those unstable flat hit-and-miss shots with minimum backswing, no margin for error, poor defence... He's 20 but his technique looks very outdated (and not because it's a one-hander). I know he won Lyon and 3 Challengers this year, but I think he'll struggle on the tour.

@J.-M.7 ай бұрын
I've been following tennis for decades, and I've seen dozens of new players who people constantly kept saying for sure "have a bright future ahead of them". One thing 99% of them had in common is that they didn't. There were only two major exceptions in recent years, Alcaraz and Sinner. But it was clear they had potential. It's easy to fall into this trap, seing an interesting young player like Perricard hit some nice shots in highlights... But experience shows that this is not the type of a player who makes it big.

@realbillymiller10117 ай бұрын
He probably started as a kid 2 handed, then adapted to one hand in his teens.
@J.-M.7 ай бұрын
I think he would be great even as a one-hander, but unfortunately, his coach taught him the 20th century textbook backhand suited for the old equipment, which has little to do with the modern, 21st century one-hander. This is the biggest problem with the one-hander. Many coaches have no clue about the shot anymore. Most of them don't teach it because they have totally outdated view of the shot, its pros and cons, and those who teach it often only know this outdated 20th century version, too.
@commentarytalk14467 ай бұрын
@@J.-M. Interesting you picked up on that, it does look like an old-fashioned backhand and I'm not the most knowledgeable on that subject. I still think the 2-handed backhand is the way to go, just robotic consistency then combine that with a destructive service game and it would be a touch opponent to beat over time.

I can only agree that the 2HBH is better for ROS, however he can develop a chip return to close the gap. OTOH, 1HBH is far better for Gio in all other key aspects of his game: slice, net, approach shots, low balls (high balls are less of problem for a 6ft8 guy).
