It's a shame that Caprica was so slow that people lost interest. The season 2 preview looked awesome and probably would have answered many questions
@WarringPacifist Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, some stories are best left untold, given the oft-times HARSH realities of this world (Nielsen, I hope you're reading this!). That goes for EVERY science fiction media franchise, including BSG. Of those untold stories, they will have to be left to anyone's/everyone's own imaginations. That's what the other, non-commercial media, such as fanfiction, fan movies, and fan-made video games, are for...to answer questions the TV shows/movies will NOT EVEN touch, much less, answer. So, let's just be thankful for, and content with, whatever we already have today -- even if it's not necessarily to the satisfaction of the "bottomless pits" of our curiosity, when it comes to BSG, or *any other* mainstream SF franchise, for that matter. After all, "something is better than nothing at all"! PEACE. ☮

I got the impression that game represents a turning point in the war. Before the game, although the war had been going on for an indeterminate length of time (I'd say years but less than a decade at a guess) that the tempo and scale of operations was still quite small. I get the impression that before the game, Colonial Fleet was more like a NATO or UN force, small in resources and scale, and that planetary defence forces were still handling the bulk of the fighting, but in a purely defensive, piecemeal, uncoordinated manner, and that Colonial Fleet was the only force actually trying to "win" the war. As a side note, I feel that this informs the design and value of the Jupiter Class - it's designed to operate as the centrepiece of a battlegroup of smaller ships as a force multiplier, which would fit given that we see in the game that most defence forces are made up of a large number of smaller craft. The story arc of the game takes you from this tiny multinational taskforce to probably being the biggest single chunk of military force in the twelve colonies (Depending how much you build up before the end of the game). After the game's ending, you've established Colonial Fleet's bona fides as the only organisation that can realistically fight the Cylons, which leads to what we see in Blood and Chrome and later the full series, where Colonial Fleet is this huge, centralised force that, judging by what we see of the Cylon Navy in The Plan, the Cylons didn't have a hope in hell of beating in a general fleet engagement.

I don't think that is the best description of the articles and the distribution of Jupiter's. The poor colonies would be well within their rights to build a Jupiter class, articles be damned. They just didn't have the capacity to do so. Signing the treaty was the only way they would ever get a ship that powerful. Would you hand over a wmd, that you built, to a historic enemy, without some kind of promise they won't use it against you?

I agree. Even the cylons were invented on caprica so why Should anybody else trust them especially because they are shown be the elitist pricks of the colonies.

We need a prequel series. One was pitched to SyFy, but they turned it down. Too bad! Loyal fans would have killed to see very last episode. Even thought many of us would use our DVRs to record and watch each episode when our schedules permitted, and we would most likely fast forward past the commercials, we still would watch the ones that caught our eye for items or brands we were interested in. In a way, that would give advertisers a better idea how to write their commercials and which products were their biggest competition! The whole thing seems like a win win to me! So, SyFy, if you're smart enough to check the opinions posted on videos like this and forums for fans,.... get busy reading these comments and put together a prequel that would do BSG proud!

@TheKnightsShield5 жыл бұрын
@@ajet0452 Yep, true that. Why would they not be any good in the Federation's era of space exploration? One word: shields. The Cylons would lose a short battle without them against even a single Federation vessel. Which begs the question: how did the Galatica survive nuclear strikes from numerous Basestars on numerous ocassions without shields? Maybe Battlestars are made of tough stuff. One things for certain, they took a good licking and kept kicking!! So say we all!!
@ajet04525 жыл бұрын
@@TheKnightsShield Battlestars were heavily armored, they could take shot after shot and still keep going while cylon basestars weren't nearly as armored so thats why battlestars were so valuable. Also 22nd century earth had hull polarization and even without that I seriously doubt that basestarts would be even able to land a hit against starfleet ships which are very maneuverable and there fighters would only scratch the paint on the ship, plus starfleet could just beam a torpedo right into the basestar and boom battle over.

Members of the twelve colonies made them. They used them for just about everything, from construction all the way to helping people live their lives, in much the same way that we use technology these days. If I remember correctly, they were originally made on Caprica (going by the prequel series Caprica) and were being made to fight in wars, in place of humans. The Cyclons gained sentience (a soul, if you will) and decided that humanity was a flawed creation, so began the first Cylon war.
@roberthaworth90976 жыл бұрын
I don't get how BStars were "made for" a given planet. That's a stupid idea -- almost guaranteed to result in a very "brittle" and insubordinate fleet, whose members split up to attempt to defend their respective homeworlds (with a single BStar) once the going gets tough. Beter to say that a given ship was SPONSORED by a world -- i.e., that a subscription was raised on that world to fund construction of the ship, that she was in return given a name reminiscent of/important to that sponsoring world, and that maybe the world agreed to establish a pipeline of officers and recruits to ensure she stayed fully staffed on an ongoing basis. By by no means do as world "order", "own", or control a given BStar -- that's a recipe for disaster, like 12 little fleets instead of 1. The method I described is how most 19th and early 20th Century navies found the resources to build up their fleets, and it's the model you should prolly follow in describing how the Colonies would have done it.
@scandor85996 жыл бұрын
Sorry to necro, but it's not as daft as it first sounds. At this point in the war, each planet's own individual navy vastly outguns Colonial Fleet, and its these fleets that are doing the lion's share of the fighting. Colonial Fleet, I think, begins as a Combined Chiefs of Staff type organisation that has a small fleet, doing the missions that the Colonies' defence fleets won't do for various political and selfish strategic reasons. A bit like in XCOM 2012, where you're doing surgical strikes and taking the worst of the battles, but it's clear from the Situation Room ticker-tape news that each country is fighting its own war against the Aliens. The offer of a Jupiter to each colony is part bribe to join the alliance, part advertisement as to what can be achieved when they pool their resources. To pick up the XCOM analogy, it's like when you fulfil a request for body armour or advanced weapons from a XCOM member state. They get advanced kit to help hold off the aliens, but it also makes them more committed to the alliance too.
