Quick tip for anyone having troubles with the parry timing. Use Carian Retaliation. It offers a few extra frames to hit that sweet spot.

Golden parry is even better. Same frames but way bigger hitbox

@Gankstomper While Golden Parry might have a bigger hit box but it only lasts for 3 frames. Carian lasts for 6 with the same activation frames.

@@NightX15 Whats crazy is I'm an invader and I don't parry much at all. I've been playing thinking these both had the same active frames for so long and I guess I always blamed my missed parries on golden on my own performance. I used them interchangeably when I should have just stuck to one or the other. Well now I know. Parry isn't a big part of my gameplan but now I can be more consistent when I do use it for sure. Every build will have both now

For anyone struggling with this area, bring a buckler and crouch in the grass and do an attack, it'll lure in the enemy without the aoe teleport that knocks you over. Hit parry as soon as they bring their arm upwards to grab you

Here’s my advice. After the initial knockdown and you get back up, Lock on the Abyssal and move to your right almost like you’re circling them and when you see the arm move, then you can parry with a few more milliseconds seconds to react. This should make parrying a lot easier as the arm swing of the abyssal is hitting the parry more from the side which is a wider range. Good luck.

That's one of the tighest parries in the whole game. Took me like 15 tries or so to pull it off. Also, the untouchable dude closest to the church (following the path to the church, take a right where all the rats are) drops a frenzy talisman when killed.

Just use destined death. They aren't immune to it, but you gotta use it quickly.

Me personally, I hardly ever use Perry, and to kill him. I ended up putting Perry on swords and it worked for me, The animation is extended unlike Shields

The abyssal woods gave me the same unease feeling i got the First time i reached the choir in bloodborne,plus the return of wintern lanterns 2.0. The fact that you have to parry them, gave me the ptsd of bloodborne but the parry system of elden ring is nothing compared to the speed of the hoonter game. I really hated that area and the game at that point, but all my thanks to Miyazaki to let me experience the same unease feeling of bloodborne once more. BEST GAME PRODUCER EVER.
