Not sure if you've figured it out or not but the camera went into alarm because that button was not the power button. A panic button I believe.

If you had read the booklet that came with the system, you would have known the button you pressed on the NVR box is also the panic button. That's why the camera sounded an alarm when you pressed the button.

Cat5E . I believe 50 ft. Specs say a single line can be up to 300 ft. Here are more specs www.lorextechnology.com/downloads/ip-cameras/E892AB/E892AB_Spec_Sheet_R1.pdf

This would be a great deal ($650 at Costco) IF it worked. I got one from the local Costco and one from Costco online. Both suffered from the same problems thus both went back to Costco for a refund. Neither would shutdown & power off (although Lorex tech support says they won't, contrary to what the manual says). More problematic however is that after a few reboots, various settings would be forgotten. Then finally all cameras would be lost and Lorex support says the only way to recover them is to do reset to factory defaults. So if you are willing to endure all that, plan on doing a factory reset frequently. Even with saving the configuration to a usb stick, importing that saved config doesn't restore all your settings so you'll still need to do lots of reconfiguring after the factory reset.

I installed one of those systems. It is a real pain in the ass to try to find and download video. The interface is just awful. It is extremely difficult to use. After about 16 months one of the cameras failed. I tried to get it replaced under warranty but Lorex will not honor the warranty. I plan to rip out the whole system and replace it with a Riolink CCTV system.

Yes! that's what I was looking for as well. I wonder if the hub and sensor have alarms also.
