Just got my 8 channel 8 camera system installed yesterday. I got a Logitech wireless keyboard with wireless mouse to replace the wired usb mouse the system came with. Now I can sit back away from the dvr and click through everything. It's also easier to type in the admin password and other stuff using a real keyboard vs the onscreen one. The wireless mouse allows you to easily zoom and pan on each camera. I suggest adding the wireless keyboard and mouse as an inexpensive yet super functional system upgrade. Matthew 7:12

I would appreciate you adding some additional criteria for your analysis regarding the ease of use: 1. Speed of detection to notification on cell phone and or tablet. Do you get a gong, an e-mail, in or banner notification on your phone? 2. Speed of logging on to the DVR from the Cell phone to see the person on your lawn or in your drive way. 3. Ease of logging into your DVR to review historical footage. How many steps does it take, 4. Ease of switching from 9 to four to one image (camera) on your monitor. (How quickly can one log on? 5. How efficient is the remote control? Is it logical, intuitive, and fast to use? Measure log on time in seconds, minutes or clicks. 6. Does it come with a exterior microphone so the user can hear the activity out side. 7. Does it allow color correction of each camera? Some great reasons to have a security camera system is that it can be a picture window replacement. One can watch for deliveries or the arrival of guests, the weather, seasonal changes, state of the lawn and flower beds, and activity on the street. My wife can always find me in the yard or know when our car is gone, or when I came home. We know if the trash or recycle truck has come yet, if the mail has been delivered or picked up, whose walking their dog, which cat is walking on you car, is there a fire in you neighbor's house, are there speeders on your street, who's kids are playing in your yard or street, is your neighbor home from vacation, etc. I once used security camera footage of me recording a video in the back yard, as a supplement to the main video.

Don't buy, its garbage I use Lorex crap. My advice, get any non branded 4K analog Chinese camera DVR system. Will do much better than lorex for half the cost. Buy it from amazon since you can return it free in 30 days.

What kind of internet connection do you need in order to setup the mobile app? Wifi or cable?

Despite the con in the video review, you only need a separate monitor for maybe 1 minute of setup (plug in ethernet cable and monitor, turn on and run through the first wizard and do a firmware update). Thereafter, you can do all the device configuration from a web browser accessing your local DVR.

Yeah frankly if that’s a con that makes this not for you, maybe it’s not for you. Installing and setting up security cameras isn’t something where you shouldn’t have any access to even a TV as a monitor for 5 minutes. If you can’t figure that out or make that work, probably you don’t have the tech savvy or the money to afford $400+ security systems. Just get some Wyze cams if that’s your story. If you need to worry about hacking and are getting wired for a specialized setup for mitigating certain cyber attack risks, someone needs to know how to deal with that beyond understanding how to and having access to plug in a monitor or TV for 5 minutes. Sure though it is technically a con.

Hello, For some reason I am not able to hear any sound feedback. I can use the intercom but I cannot hear any noise when I am viewing the camera through my app. Any reason why is that?

Great review. I noticed that when you were DEMOing the app, your cameras were set to HD not 4K. Any way to see what these images look like in 4K? I have HD cameras, and am not satisfied by the detail and clarity. We've had car thefts acress the street from me, and while I could see the perpetrators, the images were not sharp enough to be useful.

Speaking from a computer hardware point of view there shouldn't be anything from stopping you from doing so now. You would likely need to put the SSD on a tray, but that's about it.

You could but you would tear through that SSD really quickly. Constantly writing to an SSD will wear them out, and the nature of this device makes the controllers ability to spread out how the data is written moot.

@@SuperballsSupervidsOnYT What? Who told you that? No way! The lifespan of an SSD is significantly longer than that of an HDD, being that an HDD is mechanical. What do you think happens when you're constantly writing on it? No different. SSD are much safer, durable and reliable than HDD.

You only need a monitor connected long enough to get the DVR connected to your network. Once online, you can point a web browser at your local ip for the DVR and log in. That's been my experience with it. There are also desktop apps to connect, those are useful if you want to see the cameras full time. I'm happy with just using the mobile app from time to time.

@@JV-ie4rh So, all installed. This is what I think of this product. Packaging was sloppy with no shipping foam to protect the cameras and dvr. Siamese cables were too short, lorex should have supplied connectors or longer cables. The quality of the housing for the cameras are a low quality plastic, should be metal. The adjustment screws are also a lower quality metal, be careful when turning the screws as they are easy to strip. Siren is garbage and the 1 led light didn't really help with night vision. Dvr is great and easy to install. Picture quality is amazing. Gotta call lorex service department as 2 cameras aren't working. Hoping its simple. This system was $499 usd, I paid approximately $800 cdn. NOT WORTH IT. Should have been priced at 450 max.

@@JV-ie4rh I thought the same so I invested about a grand into the ring system. One major issue I ran into was you have to make sure your. Cameras are installed close enough to your internet router or you will end up with choppy video.

Did you mention how horrible their customer support is? Is the worst ever. I had to call them about a dozen times and they just ask you the same questions. Each call takes about an hour. Finally they sent me a RMA request by email and then I sent them photos etc. which they requested and finally they just said my request was cancelled and to call their support line. So about 20 hours later I found one guy who easily solved my problem, by accident.

Does Lorex have software to run their DVR/NVR software directly on your main computer monitor or do you have to have an independent standalone monitor for the DVR/NVR? Basically I have 2 monitors for my home office setup and I would like to use my second monitor for work purposes such as email and calculations when needed, but when not needed have my security cameras up and running. Is there a way to make the second monitor dual purpose? Either with some sort of HDMI switch or running Lorex software from my PC?

You can use the lorex cloud client software, or you can point your browser (not chrome) at yourlocaldvr and you can log in and use your browser to view and configure your cameras as if a monitor was connected.

Why does the bitrate look so choppy? For a 4K system like this, you would expect it to have high bitrate even with 30 FPS. It looks incredibly choppy.

I bought this thinking it would he better coverage and would pickup night vision would be better then other security camera...i was not really impressed at all..the live camera takes too long to load up..despite updating better wifi mesh systems...but what bug me the mist was it did not pickup or capture the scene when most necessary or wanted...instead i had to search for the scene to confirm..really dissapointing. My old security camera from china was more precise and accurate then the Lorex system. And the other system is cheaper too...now i have 2 system to cross reference each other...waste my time

I was concerned of getting this due to the app rating, but after watching your review it seem now that the reviews are unfair due to the fact that these cameras as much more complex then other cameras like Arlo or Eufy but people need to understand the difference between them and how something like this is much beneficial (on my opinion) but a bit more technical. 3:58 - Dude that 4K quality is straight up garbage... seriously. You have no idea what a real "good quality" 4K camera is. First its lagging, seems like 10FPS... WTF? In 2021 are you seriously recording videos at 5FPS at 4K to save drive space? I hope your using H.265 compression and not H.254. H.265 gives much better quality picture and provides almost double the drive space. Always use the max FPS, should be at least 15FPS for cheap 4K Lorex cameras. 4K 30FPS is a bit more expensive and 4K 60FPS is extremely hard and expensive to find for the consumer level. 8TB hard drives are worth the money and they are cheap. My Chinese non branded 5mp analog HD camera gives 5 times better quality than your Lorex 4K analog HD. Glad you made this video, I was planning to buy this particular Lorex 4k analog HD camera on a custom made PC DVR... Return that lorex and buy an 4K cheap non branded Chinese 4K camera system on eBay... you'll understand that lorex is ripping you out. I use lorex too and never went back.
