I just don’t know about this. I think it’s more complex than that. Delusion is after all… delusion. I say this as a woman who’s father was delusional and so was my ex. When I was a child my dad accused me of stealing a diamond ring from his room and replacing it with a CZ. What KID knows how to do that? That’s just one example of the insane shit that would poop into his head and he ran with. My ex has bipolar and believed he had a 6 figure job, except that he was sleeping on his friends floor because he was broke. I don’t understand how delusion works because reality doesn’t correspond with the delusions most of the time- but the person isn’t able to acknowledge that. In no way will I ever excuse LVD’s actions, but I am not convinced she truly understands what she has done, not like WE do. Another example- I am a recovering alcoholic and looking back it’s insane to me how I was on denial for about 10 years that my life was out of control. It was MY normal so I didn’t “see” it. This is a different type of delusion which we just refer to as denial, but it’s very real. The human psyche is very good at creating barriers to protect ourselves from acknowledging hard truths. So what then does delusion look like when we are talking about actual mental illness? Like I illustrated with me dad and ex? I think on a level- she does believe this shit, because she HAS to. She can’t accept who she REALLY is.

She is responsible for the death of her kids, Tylee and JJ. I have followed this very closely. I saw a time in which she changed, and I am in no way giving an excuse. I am trying to understand her thoughts. I think when JJ entered her life, she didn't want that. She was happy Tylee was finally older, and more independent. Now she is back to diapers and a child with very special needs, which means that freedom is gone. Poor JJ was a gift. She was losing control of Colby. Very passive-aggressive. How can a mom be jealous of her son's girlfriend!! A controlling and narcissistic evil mom.

Excellent analysis IMO. I've devoured every bit of information I can find on this case, and I've followed it since the beginning. Loved hearing your take on Lori. We are all so baffled at how this seemingly "normal" woman could go so horribly wrong. Your analysis helps us make sense of it all. So thank you

During our psychiatry education, we learned that people always naturally incorporate the elements of their environment, upbringing and the belief system they grew up in into their mental disorders. In other words, the way that one was brought up would naturally be a part of one's mental illness. That is why here in Europe, up until the mid 20th century most of the psychotic symptoms had a religious nuance to them, but as the society grew more secular, there appeared less and less religious elements and more modern ones in every new generation of patients. Most of my psychotic patients, who all grew up and were educated in big towns, now believe they are being followed by the UFOs, the CIA or similar forces, while the patients who come from rural Italy will all still see devils, demons and other frightening elements of catholic religiosity. In Lori's case I mostly see malignant narcissism, which expressed itself through the religius teachings of her home and surroundings. Until she met Chad, she was trying to excell, be special and get praise through playing an ideal mormon woman, while simultaneously seeking male adoration (and living out her promiscuity) and discarding the previous when a new one appeared. When Chad surfaced, himself a promiscuous manipulator with a delusion of grandeur, who was satisfying his own cravings for power, money and adoration through his own religious fantasies, Lori literally saw her soulmate and her mirror image in him. He fed her insatiable narcissistic hunger by elevating her to a goddess, while she gave him sex and promissed him Charles' money. They developed a narcissistic symbiosis which manifested itself through the faith they both grew up and lived in, and they started annihilating everyone who stood in their way of becoming a pair of cult leaders.

I love your work. Your humor is dry in a way. Mostly i enjoyed ypur take on why us True Crimer's are the way we are. What makes us tick in an obssesive way. It explained thiings. And you did it in a tongue and cheek way that took the sting out our strangeness. Ive told a lot of poeple about that video. And especially to the acquaintances I have who ridicule my hunger for True Crime. (They just don't get it) (They are just not evolved enough....Yet you called us primitive) (Chuckle) Now because of you i have a foot to stand on.... Only true True Crimers understand each other. You're a good doctor, with a passion for humans and human nature. Thats why you come acroos, for the most part as good natured and affectiknate towards us simple creatures. 😊 I get you.

Thank you Dr. Andrew for your very interesting and educational presentation. Your observations and explanations have enlightened me and I now have changed my opinion regarding a few of Lori's motives for her actions as well as her mental condition. I still believe she knew what she did was wrong and she is exactly where she needs to be. Justice was served appropriately. I now have a better understanding of how the influences in her life enabled her psyche to create a world for her to live in, dysfunctional as it is.

You would think that Lori and/or Chad or Alex would have had a sane moment where they would have thought it would be so wrong to kill the 2 kids, Tammy and Charles. Out of the 3 of them I guess this never happen. Crazy how they all thought the same.
@judiashley5818 Жыл бұрын
Alex was a total follower of Lori's. He went to jail for brutally assaulting husband 3 amd then killed husband four. This stuff happened with number 3 before Daybell. Alex had a Brain injury from car accident as a teen and Lori knew how to manipulate him. He would do anything she asked. She uses everyone to her advantage. Gave Daybell his fantasy cheerleader.

Doctor, you raise some very interesting points, thank you! One point in the video needs to be clarified though. When you say that you don't want to come down too hard on the police officers, I REALLY think you need to know the whole story and come down on them like a ton of bricks. That idiot officer in the video, after offering his "diagnosis" that she's not a threat, proceeded to give her advice on how to evade being taken by the police for the mental evaluation (it's on the footage). They actually never took her to Community Bridges. According to her sidekick, Melanie Gibb, she went on her own, stayed a few hours and then came out saying she had passed with "flying colors".

l think you did an exceellent assessment. I have followed this case closely since the near beginning. I wonder if perhaps some drug use as well. Her brother Alex often went to Mexico to get drugs. This might be a reason of hypermania. She was very giggly when the police arrived at her husbands shooting. The parrell between her perhaps idolizing her farher as a spirt giant to her fascination with Daybell who actually is rarher dull person is ( most would agree) also interssting as part of her psychological pathology.

@serenity2832 Жыл бұрын
First time watching one of your videos, enjoyed your analysis. Also appreciated your willingness to put your own questions out there about the relationship between anti-seizure medication and treatment for bipolar disorder. I had a venous, hemorrhagic stroke that affected my frontal lobes. About a month after, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. The only medication that has helped me to get out of bed each day is Lamotrigine. I've asked my doctors if I am bipolar, but they've said no. The brain is such an interesting, and sensitive organ. I'm still curious what all happened from my stoke, how it affects me now and how it will in the future.
