Fantastic short video. My mom passed suddenly this past Saturday. I broke the news to my oldest daughter that is 21. She has had a history of depression, anxiety and antisocial tendencies. That said, upon breaking the news to my daughter she seems to have snapped. Something happened in her and now she's having strange delusions that a KZbin celebrity is going to marry her, etc. Just really off the wall weird delusions. She can't get out of bed, she cries uncontrollably, she's going to lose her job, This started approx 24 hrs after telling her about my mom. It's heartbreaking to watch her.

What does it mean when half the nation thinks a single person, with no medical background, suggests that virology should be ignored and 1million people die, during peacetime, and those same people would re-elect the person? Plus. There also seems to be a correlation to belief in god’, and a dissonant ‘belief’ that the right to believe means the belief is right?

Interesting, I remember when I first presented to a psych ward and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I was trying to explain that I had an NDE due to a drug overdose a year earlier, you know leaving my body the light and all that. I also would become quite distressed as I had suffered abuse in an institution as a child. The Dr kinda gave me this smirk as if she found my behaviour entertaining and hilariously preposterous when I was trying to explain this, though she knew she couldn't outright laugh. Fast forward 12 years and we had an initiative by the government where cases of institutional abuse were independently investigated and mine was found to be true and it was acknowledged and compensated. Also interesting enough, the original researcher into Near Death Experiences Dr Raymond A Moody was in fact a Forensic Psychologist/Psychiatrist. I dunno , kind of a bit of a kick in the guts.

I’m confused. So delusional disorder is the same a psychosis? Of delusional disorder derives from the state of psychosis? Because trying to figure out the difference between psychosis and schizophrenia?
@finne0n2 жыл бұрын
Psychosis is an umbrella term that encompasses things like delusions, hallucinations, reality feeling off, etc and isn't tied to a specific disorder. You can have psychotic symptoms with disorders such as BPD, major depression, PTSD, etc. Delusional disorder is when someone has delusions that affect their life enough for it to be a major problem, and those delusions are relatively possible, i.e. it is possible someone sitting beside you has a bomb in their bag. Psychosis (delusions and hallucinations), along with disorganized thinking and cognitive issues, is part of schizophrenia. Like in the video, the delusions go one step further and are relatively impossible, i.e. everyone you've ever loved is not a real person and is a robot created by the government to spy on you. Hope this helps!! (Please note I am not a medical professional and some info might be inaccurate because I only have a bachelor's in psych.)

Ooooooo so gender dysphoria is effectively not being removed from the DSM, then. It might still be diagnosable under the label of delusional disorder, so people might still be able to get the help they seek.

They aren’t delusional - they’ve lived in their bodies for their entire life, and they feel like they were born in the wrong skin, that they don’t mold to the identity assigned at birth. It’s weird AF that you want to diminish the experiences of people and simply call them delusional. Might be healthy to watch videos from trans people about their own issues, to empathize with them.
@dugw152 жыл бұрын
@@egalitarian2207 Saying something is a delusion doesn't diminish the experience. And saying something is a delusion doesn't mean there's no empathy. People are obviously suffering a great deal, indicated by high comorbidity with suicidal ideation. Feelings matter to the utmost, and facts matter to the utmost. They matter in different domains. Taking the example used in the short video, imagine someone mistakenly believes that a famous person is in love with them. That's a delusion. And the person's feelings of joy or pleasure in that belief are real and genuine. And if the person feels anxious because of separation from said famous person, that anxiety is real and genuine. And it's based on a delusion. A false belief. When a man believes he's a woman, that's a false belief. It might be true for him to say he feels more like a woman than a man. It might be true for him to say he wishes he was a woman. It might be true that he *identifies* as a woman. But it is not true that he is actually a woman. If he believes that he actually is a woman, that's a delusion. If he insists that everyone else needs to acknowledge that he's a woman or face some social consequence like scorn or ostracization, that's narcissistic manipulation using all of society as his "flying monkeys," if you're familiar with that term. People who believe they are sex other than what they really are need a great deal of empathy and compassionate care because they're obviously suffering a great deal. But affirming the false belief is not required in giving good care.

@@dugw15 You've waited your entire life for this moment. It's finally here. It's a challenge speaking in opposition to transgend€r ideologies because they don't just bombard you with word salads, they use terms that didn't exist 15 years ago, so you're dumbfounded by new epithets and aren't sure how to rebuttal because you don't know what it means. Their delusions are being masked by illusions created by social media. If you see and hear the same rhetoric often enough your brain begins to accept it as a fact, even if it's untrue. And if it's happening to everyone around you, any opposing thoughts you share, will be shut down because everyone's been programmed to believe the same lie. Then the lie will evolve into a myth as time goes on. And no one is quite sure where it originated, we just know it doesn't seem to be true. Example: Eating carrots improves eyesight. But you've cracked the code friend. I love that for you.
@finne0n2 жыл бұрын
Gender dysphoria and delusional disorder are not the same. Gender dysphoria is related social gender norms being forced on someone due to their assigned sex at birth, and the extreme discomfort that comes with being forced into those roles. Those concepts, however unnecessary and harmful they are, are prevalent in society and are real in a sociological sense. Delusions are based entirely on false beliefs, such as what's described in this video. Gender is a societally created and enforced abstract concept. That means you can exist as any gender that feels right to you, even when it isn't the one arbitrarily assigned to you based on body parts.
@dugw152 жыл бұрын
@@finne0n You're exactly right that gender dysphoria and delusional disorder are not the same thing. I didn't say they are, though. I said that someone who would otherwise be diagnosed with gender dysphoria could possibly receive a diagnosis of delusional disorder if gender dysphoria were removed from the DSM because of the fact that if a man believes he is not a man, that's plainly a delusion. By removing gender dysphoria from the DSM, it makes it harder for people seeking help with it to find that help. So I'm relieved that delusional disorder might be and alternative diagnosis clinicians can use to get people the help they're looking for. Maybe. Unclear, but maybe. If a man doesn't fit the gender stereotypes of men, that doesn't make him not a man. It just means the stereotypes are not helpful, but we already know that. There are men with traditionally masculine qualities, and there are men with more feminine qualities. They're both men. If someone likes to think of himself as a woman and live into more traditionally feminine ways, he may do that. He can change his appearance to look more like a woman, if he wants. If at any point he sincerely believes that he IS a woman, that's a delusion. If someone believes that and wants help with his psychological health, the diagnosis of delusional disorder might apply and allow him to get the help he's seeking.
