★ 4K 🇨🇭 Zug - Affoltern am Albis - Zürich Altstetten, cab ride Switzerland [06.2021]

We're joining the Zürich S-Bahn S5 in this video for the first half of it's journey from Zug. We looked at this service in the opposite direction a few weeks ago in its entirety from Pfäffikon SZ to Zug ( • ★ 4K 🇨🇭Cab ride Pfäffi... ).
The line is the less frequently used connection between Zürich and Zug, the main line being via Thalwil & Baar, however there still are a number stations served by SBB Cargo and the frequent S Bahn services make the partially 1 track line quite busy.
Somebody commented that they'd rather if the stopping times at the stations weren't cut short, so I've left them in for this video. I usually leave them in if there's something happening and otherwise cut them out.
It was interesting reading about the Zug train station on Wikipedia, which used to be in a different location and until a few decades ago had a loop allowing a train coming from the direction we're driving in to loop into the station and continue towards Luzern (or back on the same line).
The colours are looking very vivid - however I didn't increase the saturation at all. Switzerland does get very green in summer and combined with sunlight, seems to be a bit overwhelming for any camera.

Very good of you to do this section in the 'opposite' direction and without the halts edited, thank you! Above all, it's very clear how the pre-existing infrastructure has been 'right-sized' to suit the needs of the timetable. Showing the station stops in full allows us to understand the relationship between the various services in both directions. On that note, we have an excellent view of the strategic use of right-hand running - North of Affoltern, it allows the Affoltern terminator a good run in case it needs to catch up. So beautiful. There are no train journeys in Switzerland that are not beautiful. I am so amazed at how quiet and smooth these locomotives are, it's like they are riding on air. The only strange thing is at the end, those four black towers near the station look so out of place against the rest of the architecture we see everywhere else.

Thanks, Andrea and lorirocks, for showing this alternate route. A beautiful day for a train ride. I find single-track lines much more interesting than multiple-track routes due to the scheduled meets that must be kept in order for traffic to flow in both directions. Must note that portions of the line appear set up for expansion to two tracks, yet it is contraction that seems the more recent trend. 37:51 Chicken coops on the left? Pigeons? Doves? Rabbit hutches? Who gave this presentation an early thumbs down? Is Paolo that jealous? Or was it (my eyes are squinting now) the "other" Andrea? Hmmm...

This is a lovely ride - and fast and brutally efficient trains and scheduling too, almost perfect station meets! For Switzerland, this line has amazingly few tunnels! Such long platforms at the stations - enough for - what? 15 car trains?

Vielen Dank Ludi Die Aufnahmen sind gut, das Problem liegt an die Dekodierung für KZbin. Schauen Sie mit Safari? Falls ja, versuchen sie mal mit Firefox oder Chrome zu schauen. Da existiert dieses Problem weniger bis nie, da eine bessere Codec unterstütz ist.

Hallo Remo. Manchmal dient ein Spurwechsel zur Kreuzungsfreie Fahrt, manchmal zur Ausweichung von Störungen und Baustellen, oder im Bahnhof, um es Reisende beim Umsteigen zu erleichtern (vorallem bei Verspätungen). Dazu sollen Fahrdienstleiter einmal pro Tag alle Weichenverbindungen gebraucht haben. Manchmal geht man "ohne Grund" hin und zurück aus dem Grund. Liebe Grüsse
