So lovely!! For me, Lorna is everything James thought Zilpha was - but wasn't. It's Lorna that is curious about the world (and not china) shown by how she read his fathers letters and hated that he burned them, and of course "we should got to Nootka." It's Lorna that "sees me as I am" when Zilpha believed all the rumours and stood there while Thorne recited that stupid song about him, and it's Lorna that sits and talks to him when his sister shunned him publicly and laughed at him when he asked her to come hear all about the time he was away. Lorna actually AND actively cares about him. Girl took a bullet for his cause - and saved Robert probably. I think the show was definitely showing the audience a contrast in the two women: the one James thought he wanted, and the one that truly is the best match for him. Lorna and he really are more the same person. He and Zilpha just argued that point back and forth until I wanted to strangle them both! I don't know if the show will give us this romance, James certainly does not seem a well enough man to be in a relationship.... but perhaps it will be an end game we can hope? :)

Wow, I absolutely love your analyses, so many things I hadn't thought about before. I do hope that they will end up in a relationship, but I'm not sure either because James only uses people for a purpose. We'll see where season 2 will take us :)

James does use people, but Lorna is the one person he was not expecting. He didn't know about her, so she was not part of the original plan. Everyone else he knew how he'd use them. Once he got his father's trunk and the Treaty, he didn't need Lorna anymore. Yet, she's not only still there: she's the one he turns to and reveals his weakness. If not for Lorna, he'd never have been able to follow through on his plan AND I think he definitely did not expect that all. Technically, there was no reason for her to be going on the boat with him - her part was done - other than, he wanted her there. :)

Actually I think maybe james has some hidden feelings for her too...kind of closeness and reliability feeling..cause as you said he opens up about his weaknesses and vulnerabilities and also his dreams, only in front of lorna..he speaks with her about the things that he never did even with zelpha...cause he knows that lorna would listen to him and won't judge him and unlike everyone else doesn't see him like the devil and obviously cares for her more than others because he didn't let that chemist man go for her and I think that dialogs: is she yours? Or that one: are you his wife?! were kinda signs for us At least I wish and hope so😅

I'm happy that nothing of concrete happened between them (even if I'm surr that he feels something for her) because otherwise Zilpha's shadow would have been between them. I want that when James will realize to be in love with her his mind and heart belong totally to her, without any kind of inteference. We definitely need a season 2!

Literally the only lorna/james ship video I can find on KZbin. Everyone else ships Zilpha and james (ugh). Zilpha is too stuck up imo. Never liked them together. I see so much more chemistry between these two and they're more like minded. I love how raw their relationship is. No bullshit. Only genuine. I believe Lorna wouldn't be so scared to know James past compared to Zilpha who would probably be disgusted by him if she knew his true self. I also love how Lorna isn't all about hearts and flowers when it comes to relationships. She's more strong and bad ass haha

For someone who apparently has no interest in Lorna, James is quite sure that Chomondeley May Not Have Her. He tells Lorna quite decidedly that Cholmondeley is not ‘suitable’ for her. He also refuses to say whether or not Lorna is ‘his’ and tells Cholmondeley he may not court her. Why does James care so much about Lorna’s personal affairs?

Even though he doesn't make good money on this show like other projects, he is still doing it because he loves his character. So, it's happening! It will just take a while longer. Zilpha was a teenage boy's love It had a lot of sexual tension and the "alluring forbidden" but that's about it. An adult man's love is more; compassion, understanding, loyalty. Zilpha didn't possess any of these qualities. As soon as he arrived on the doorstep, she wanted him gone, didn't even give him a chance to explain himself. She was in league with the EIC to sell the land that he would die for. She believed all the rumours about him. She didn't help him in any way , and was not a part of his team. Sure they had great eye contact 🔥but as I said that's about it Contrast this with Lorna. Okay they had no steamy scenes but their interactions were so much deeper. She began to really care about him and see him for how he is. Not just a monster but a man, troubled and flawed but also with a heart. He confided in her, trusted her and she genuinely looked out for him, loyal even at the cost of her honour. Some things were foreshadowing of a potential romance - the fact he doesn't want her with the chemist and how much she gets on well with Robert (they could be parents to him) but also importantly James ALWAYS pays back his debts and lorna said he owes her everything a husband owes a wife It's a shame we won't get more of them But I think they're endgame.
