I just watched four of your videos LorriMarie. and found a box in my spice drawer from some food coloring about the size of the knox gelatin and made a book cover for my affirmation's book. I covered the outside of it with my fabric scraps from the fabric flower project and lined the inside cover pages with some collage paper. It looks great so far.. I actually pre punched holes in the tiny book back as I do not have crop-a-dial yet, so when i make the insert pages (next) I can just put the needle through the holes I made with my tiny single hole punch. Gotta use what we can. Hope it turns out as nice as yours did. So much fun.

So, trying to do my duty by commenting. I love your focal points and you have relieved my mind a bit on that. I was trying to do my “own art,” and was really torn about using art pieces that I loved by other artists. Unfortunately, my art is pretty limited. And so now I have realized that, by putting art I love into my journal, it will be accessible and I will be able to enjoy it more. I’m not trying to present somebody else’s art as my own in any way so I’m not hurting the artist. I mean, I knew that, but for some reason I still had a hang up about it. And now I don’t. Yay! Always love your work!

Another fabulous collage. Could you use a piece of wet sponge in a container for smudging the Stabilo, like they used in post offices to moisten stamps prior to them being self-sticking. That way you can still use your fingers to control the amount of moisture you want to apply.

This is an important video for someone who hasn’t seen the whole process you bring to altered books. Love it, love it!! I enjoyed it all, even though I’m really bingeing on the backgrounds of altered book #2. Fun, fun, fun! I don’t have a lot of time to do altered books, but it is really impacting my acrylic paintings with mixed media and my art quilts. Funny how it all blends together, all art processed are good and important to know about. Not just to know, but to be able to pull on from time to time. I’ve done two of the Solarity projects. I’m calling them “Soularity” instead, because art surrounds the soul with light. Is there somewhere I can show my Soularity pieces? I mean photos of them.

This may be one of my favorite backgrounds!! I love them so much, too!! I am still gathering pieces of fabric to create something of my own, but it is on my bucket list. If we don't have a brayer, what other options can we use- maybe just the credit card? Your focal points are always fun to look at- helps to figure out how to create some interesting characters of our own. I also learned to kind of frame the two page spread, balancing each side with a bigger focal point- which I really like. I think I am a fan of the ripped pieces for the focal point, too. Thank you for always bringing so much fun into art pieces - just love it!!

Hi LorriMarie I have only just discovered your channel and I am LOVING watching you create. I really struggle with WHY?? to do these things like altered books etc...I have this mind issue that makes me feel I can't seem to do any art unless it is appears to have a purpose... it drives me mad!!! Have you any words of wisdom about letting go of this mind block?? All this said I am realising that I have SOoo much stuff I really need to use it (as most of us crafters do) also so little space to work (I live in the UK ..houses are small here) which certainly doesn't help the creativity flow Thanks for sharing Sandy xx
@lorrimarie20026 жыл бұрын
good morning (or good night...lol), sandra....first off...welcome to 'our village'...i believe most of us have struggled with that very same question...'WHY?'...we all have different reasons that we come 'to the table'...however small it is...(my work space ends up to be about a foot square..lol)...why do i do it? i can't help it...is there a real purpose? yes.....now i might lose you here...sorry....i have for some reason been given a gift....a gift of creativity...a gift of sharing...a gift of playfulness....and it is my 'job' to share that with others...what do i do with the pieces after i make them? i sell them, i give them away, i leave them on parked cars to bring a smile to someone's face...(that is the best one of all)...so...why make art? because it makes my heart sing...it makes me a happier person...do i have a goal? usually not...but something is screaming inside me....'make me...please....make me...pick me....please...pick me'...i teach classes...and the name of those mixed media classes? 'Letting Go'...sometimes there is no other reason to create art than to just feel better... i hope this has helped....keep showing up at the table...you will learn to let go....and soar! see you on the table sandra!

Thanks LorriMarie ....Yes I AM just going to let go...and let go of my stuff ..to make art and to make me smile Have a great day in sunny California ...It is early evening here in NOT so sunny Wales UK ...sending you kind thoughts xx .

I confess, I'm bingeing (sp?) on your videos when I should be sleeping. lol I'm really enjoying your pages & you have a great teaching style. Also I wanted to let you know that in your editing software there should be some option to 'flip' the image 180 degrees so you can film it facing you & then in the editing mode 'flip' it so it seems like it's facing the viewer. It might be easier for you. Cheers :-)

good tip ashs....thank you....i might even try that...lol....i love it that you are binging on MY videos....i am right up there with netflix original....lol! i do love to create the videos...it makes me feel like i have playmates ALL THE TIME! love that!!! see you on the table...upside down...or right side up!!!

Hi LorriMarie, I struggle to find good focal points. I’ve subscribed to get Hi Fructose imported and have a couple of back issues of Haute Doll but there’s not much else I’ve seen here in the Uk. Would you consider doing a package of focal points similar to the ephemera one you do? And/or can you recommend any other good mags I could try? I loved the Alice in Wonderland focal point you used and the circus/theatre curtains you used here. Big love from London, Angela xx

does your mod podge stick to your other pages, i have had this problem and have had to put wax paper in between pages...do you have a solution. thanks love the work
@lorrimarie20027 жыл бұрын
i do not have that problem but i know some artists do....let's go over some things.....are you using gloss? matte seems to be less sticky....do you live in a damp area? vallejo is pretty dry....have you 'powdered' your pages with baby powder? and...one of 'our' peeps on this channel says she rubs a candle over the page...it leaves a bit of a waxy finish....that may help...thank you rebekah for asking! see you on the table...

Hi I love your videos! I recently found you and like I have seen from others comments I have also been binge watching. Can you tell me where you find such amazing images for your focal points. Do you get from magazines? If so which ones do you prefer for images? Thank you for all your inspiration. 💕😃

welcome to 'our village' kat....you can binge on my videos....calorie free...lol! i find art magazines at local library book sales, and second hand book stores....then i rip them up....shamelessly...lol! hi-fructose, juxtapoz, haute dolls.....those are my favorites for the eerie images....somerset for the whimsical ones....i hope that helps....see you on the table!

@lorrimarie20026 жыл бұрын
some are given to me....some are from art books and magazines....and you thought i would not respond....silly girl! try somerset magazines for whimsical....juxtapoz and hi-fructose for sort of dark and eerie and haute dolls....for....well...dolls...lol...see you on the table susan...and i do try to respond to all comments...yay me!!!

Won’t the Mod podge lessen the brightness of colors if you brush it above these focal points?
@jameyatesmauriat61166 жыл бұрын
And why don’t you use PVA glue instead please?

I notice you reuse images, how do you get prints to look so good? One more question, how do you get your pieces printed on metal?
@lorrimarie20026 жыл бұрын
i have a black and white laser printer....that would be how i copy things...i try not to re-use images too frequently...if you see me using a color print, it is one that i have had printed at a printers...and...to have the pieces printed on metal....i take them to Costco...yep...that is right....i take the piece to them and they scan it....and then they print it on metal....crazy, right? reasonably too evelyn....i hope this has been helpful evelyn!

Just got a stabilo. YAY! It came with an eraser. Wonder if I could use it for smudging because I am not going to put it in my mouth due to concern of lead poisoning. Glad for options. I bet your tongue gets black. :-)
@lorrimarie20026 жыл бұрын
okay....did you get the stabilo 8046? no lead in that i think.....anyway...an eraser? i have never had that happen...lucky you....damp sponge, q-tip, small paint brush...many options if you are not a spit and smudge kind of girl gail....and no....a black tongue i do not get...i do not use my tongue...lol....see you on the table gail....
@gail21396 жыл бұрын
The eraser/smudger was a freebie with my stabilo 8046 from Amazon! Graphite is in the pencil, not lead, whew for you. Research informed me that graphite is one of only two naturally occurring forms of pure carbon, the other being diamonds!

well....handsome hubby will be glad to hear that diamonds are NOT a girl's best friend...lol! see you on the table gail....thank you for the info....xo
