Interestingly, 1932 was the 1st Olympics held in Los Angeles. What a lovely coincidence. Now, in 2028, the iconic LA Coliseum will again host the opening ceremonies for the third time in its storied Olympic history. Almost 100 years from its inaugural date.

The US Olympic music committee definitely gave Mexico a warm welcome! At around 1:52:58, once Mexico was announced, the orchestra stopped playing the piece they were doing and at 1:53:04, they played “La Marcha de Zacatecas” or the Zacatecas March, a marching song from Mexico. Really enjoyed this little tribute they did to their neighboring country!

I'm so glad the full broadcast has been added on KZbin! I've been looking over the years to see it. I was one of the people in the parade of nations near the end of the ceremony in my Swiss outfit. It was an amazing experience and one of the best moments of my life. We were able to go around and dance with the athletes who were all having a great time too. It was such a joyous event.

Great Stefan ! I volunteered as a driver during those games driving athletes to sports venues. Funny, I remember taking some members of the Swiss cycling team out to the velodrome for practice and they wanted me to take them to Venice Beach after their practice. Of course I couldn't do that do to the tight security of those games, but they had free buses to take most athletes to attractions all over L.A. as long as their country was not on the "countries of special concern" list. Great memories of those games. Hope to volunteer again in 2028, but maybe not as a driver in today's L.A.'s traffic. LOL.

The Swiss team gave all the Swiss participants in the opening ceremony very nice Olympic pins. I still have mine. I wish I was still local to LA to volunteer for the 2028 games too. If I remember correctly, Bradley encouraged LA folks to not drive much during the games. I believe it worked. I wonder if the LA of 2028 will be willing to do the same? I hope since you are a return volunteer they give you a fun job. Cheers!

Seeing the fireworks from my house during the opening ceremonies. Going to see a volleyball match with Argentina, the chanting and the energy of the fans was unbelievable. April Greiman's graphic design system made all the venues wonderfully the same-if you were experiencing LA on TV we must've looked super cool. The weather was so perfect for the Olympics and the freeways were freeways-just a joyous time to be in LA.

This was the last Olympics opening ceremony to feature the host country’s native language as the official language. Starting from the 1988 Summer Olympics, French and English would have become the official languages of the Olympic movement in addition to the host country’s native language (if necessary).

Yep, Los Angeles will do their first ever handoff performance in 2024 as the tradition did not exist in the 1930s and Jimmy Carter boycotted the 1980 Games.

The Olympic Fanfare created for the LA Olympics is a now a permanent theme for any olympics, such great piece. I actually like the “Welcome” theme also, the rocket man and of course the 84 grand pianos appearing through the peristyle!

This is great! Came for a breath of fresh air from 2024!!! As an Oregon Train Generation kid I loved that part! Lol That beat it # too, dude was dancing for his life! A true opening ceremony.

I remember watching this on TV. The only thing I hated was the fact that Jim McKay and Peter Jennings would NOT shut up.

Of all the Olympics broadcast by ABC, this Opening Ceremony was by far their best performance. Teaming veteran sports anchor Jim McKay with veteran news anchor Peter Jennings was inspired thinking by Roone Arledge, late president of both ABC Sports and ABCNEWS. Their chemistry was wonderful, especially during the parade of athletes, Jim with his sports history and Olympic knowledge and Peter Jennings with his knowledge of the geopolitical world in 1984. I still miss them both.

God what a different time. Back then, the network only had the one channel to broadcast the games & not the dozens of digital & streaming platforms we have now. We watched what they showed us and it felt more special. Go USA, #Olympics2021
