Los Angeles is dying! Hollywood and Beverly Hills stores are going out of business! L.A is definitely not what it used to be. In this video I will take you on a tour through Hollywood, West Hollywood, and Beverly Hills to show you the aftermath of COVID 4 years later and the results of the decisions our elected officials have made for our city and the state of California.

German here: And then you vote for Reps and after 4-8 years, you´re going to write the same nonsense about the other party. How about some OTHER parties in general in US politics, not only Reps or Dems. Just like in Europe or the rest of the democratic world? Might work wonders to cure your problems. Europe is a place where people know how to live and enjoy life, and there´s a good reason why Americans are drowning in work with very little free time, develop tons of mental health issues and are even proud uttering sentences like "you know how much I´ve been working throughout this year, I´m totally wasted". The "hard working American" has turned into some corporate slavery zombie thing within the entire nation. This can´t be good.

Yes, pick up your, and others trash and be respectful of all others...even when they don't serve it. BUT, most of all is to vote for candidates and propositions that make LA better. Don't blame the governor for the deterioration of Los Angeles. The implosion of Los Angeles started way before Newsom. Start with the building of the freeways which killed the wonderful trolley system LA used to have. Freeways creating mass congestion and pollution, killing off the many wonderful parks that used to be in LA. All of this online madness has killed all the wonderful cinemas that used to line downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood as well as all of the interesting and wonderful shops. Corporate mentality killed off the real Chinatown in LA and replaced it with a fake Chinatown. The once beautiful San Fernando Valley with its fresh orange and lemon groves and pure air has been replaced by bumper to bumper car traffic on almost all of the avenues and boulevards. Greedy landlords have tripled rents as foreign and corporate entities have usurped all the affordable housing. I would say the people themselves killed LA as they seem to have a mass apathetic attitude toward preservation. They tear down anything that has a history. The only thing that really matters now to people in LA is their almighty SUV and of course their smartphone.

Very hard due to election fraud. Dems print fake ballots first and just truck in numbers just above what's needed to win as votes are counted. That's why they have early voting and late counting. CA accepts ballots by mail up to 7 days after the election closes nationwide.

Wow, the Standard! I thought that would be a trendy classic forever! I lived in Burbank to do my time in the studios from 1996 to late 2007, and really enjoyed my time in a vibrant, fun place! Luckily, in that time, I had a chance to study the history of old communities and historic Los Angeles neighborhoods, raves at the Alexandria, tons of Dodgers games, Little Tokyo, The Grove, shopping on Melrose, did the drives out to Vegas and up to SF from time to time (SF was also very healthy and alive back then, still!), all the fun LA stuff it's fun to do at least once! The cost of living was expensive, yeah, but reasonable enough for a place that had soooo much to offer, and it was all within reach! Just before I moved away was when things started getting bad with rent prices, and I made the gamble to leave. As an independent contractor, when the cost of living gets too high to be able to keep a reasonable savings intact, it's probably a good time to move on, and I made the right decision, but there are times I really miss it there, and consider it home. I raised my son there during his formative years, and I think he thinks of it as home more than anywhere else, too. I feel very lucky to have been able to experience all Los Angeles had to offer, while living there comfortably during that time. I'm really sorry to see the mess it seems to have deteriorated into and hope the economy will change soon.

This is PRECISELY why I made this video! & EXACTLY what I meant by L.A is dead. Yes, you see people on the street. But most of them step outside quickly to get some air and go straight back inside. The sense of community is gone unless one of our teams wins a championship. You don’t speak to your neighbors, you don’t even know your neighbors names. Everyone is in and out of this city so fast that everyone is a complete stranger and the only time you speak to another human is to put in your food or drink order. There aren’t conversations, or plans. There is no where to congregate. You write to your phone, talk to your phone, and don’t ever look up at anyone to say hi. Forget about making eye contact with anyone, everyone is in their own world and already scared because they stepped a block off their porch. Yes there are pockets of the city that can be very active, but they are few and far between. There shouldn’t be 1 good restaurant and 1 good bar in a couple mile radius because everything else is a dead spot or has shut down. At the end of the day, this city has CHANGED. Thank you for this comment brother.

I found myself in several bands since then, playing just about every club there was to play. Whisky, Troubadour, Roxy, you name it. Moved to the Valley in '96. I'm still playing, but DTLA/Hollywood/West Hollywood is nothing like it used to be. It's been in a downward spiral for years now. Most all the cool clubs are gone, lots businesses shut down, higher crime, insane cost of living, with homelessness everywhere. What ashame. The only good thing left is the weather imo... I knew they were lying as people from around the world watched the well established celebrities from the 70s - 90s....go bust! Then there were movies that told us that hard times were coming. The Mule was a wake up call. It's as if an experiment was done to see how fast they could bring us to our knees by forcing everything to close....The Plandemic. We are either heading towards a Greater Depression or if you speak to people in their 70 - 80 range, they believe we are living in the end times. Very scary and humbling to see things vanish overnight, people living in the streets, it's almost as if we are reverting back to the wild west.( The Quick and the Dead). 🙏 For unity and the hope to rebuild.

We both grew up here, Both lived in Santa Monica where we both attended the same Jr. High & High School. NOT the same town, as you said in this video about other parts of LA. Very sad to see this happen. I miss the LA back in 1998, even. We, too, are just over LA & ready to move on to somewhere else. However, we too, have things tie-ing us up here. Thanks for giving an update on the status of places like that hotel, The Standard, right? I seen it when I passed by, but it’s been a while. I didn’t realize it CLOSED. WOW! VERY HIGH END! Stayed at the Standard Hollywood in 2008, cool hotel and the last time I was in LA was perhaps in 2014, it was still bustling. Planned to go again in May this year but called it off due to the situation of homelessness and drugs etc. I don’t wish to disappoint myself especially when it’s a long journey traveling from Singapore. I hope the government will do something about this. And tourists like me will feel confident to visit again. Please don’t diminish this iconic city. God bless and thank you for this video. 😊

SoCal local here - I live in the SGV. I used to go to the city a lot pre-Covid but have rarely gone since, especially west of DTLA. Nowadays it’s too much time and effort to go out. The problem is a lack of third places that don’t require one to spend $$$ - we are broke! Also gas ain’t cheap! Anecdotally, I stay closer to home when I go out; my area has seen a lot of new businesses and activity so there is no need to go out to LA to have fun - in fact a food hall just opened here in West Covina, for example. We have lots of good restaurants and local events even here in my area! The reason why LA is dying is due to post-pandemic habits and the fact that everything is so damn expensive!
@RalphBarbagallo

But LA isn't dying, LA now has multiple hotspots instead of one epicenter of Hollywood/DTLA etc. Like you say--SGV has tons of awesome stuff. Pasadena--which used to be a joke when I first moved to LA in the '90s--is now totally popping. The action has moved elsewhere....the Hollywood area is kind of dead. I hardly venture west of Fairfax these days.

👍Thank You for your comment. For people moving out of LA twice as many must be moving to LA and surrounding areas. Traffic seems to be thriving and heavier more than ever. I'm like.. I thought everyone left. 🤷‍♀️ Lol There is still much to do in LA and the weather and the outdoor activities still can't be beat. No rain all summer long and beyond for a good 6 or 7 months time period. Helps in boosting the spirit and with fitness and health. The same video's are being made about other inner cities. So I guess it's the new trend! The surrounding areas of LA are booming in new construction and businesses so not to stereotype and gloom the whole Southern California. Stores can leave but there's nothing like the Southern California vibe and sunshine! ❤Southern Cal❤ LA is still paradise from what the Bay Area has become!😥

Sad video. I was born in Los Angeles many years ago and it really bothered me when I took my wife to Hollywood for our anniversary. Hollywood boulevard was dirty and smelled like urine. Then while eating lunch, a group of young bikers basically stopped traffic by showing off their so called skills by burning out and doing wheelies. Buncha amateurs stopped traffic and it was basically a bunch of noise and smell of rubber and exhaust. No reason to return until they clean up what was once a beautiful and historical area. 😢 Our Highlight? Musso & Frank Grill 😇 I'd definitely recommend it. Viva San Diego but we still need a new governor in California. Just my take. God Bless Brother

Hollywood was the place I would take all my dates to impress them when I was a kid. Now, I won't even take my daughters. There's nothing there but tourist shops and tourist traps. Walk a quarter mile off of Hollywood & Highland and Hollywood & Vine and you're stuck wondering where else to go. Musso & Frank is still on my bucket list! Thank you brother. God bless

I'm mexican from LA and its over here this place is left for wannabes believing in something that's dead los angeles makes me feel like I'm dead life in general is not going good amongst people... no one says hi as they walk by but you can see they are full of fear their eyes don't let you relax. I'm pretty tired of society and how everyone fakes personality and lifestyle online.... no one even notices when the light is green because they are always on the phones no one makes eye contact when driving and if you try to make eye contact with them to communicate they look away and stick their back of the head to the seat looking scared or something... old people are driving everywhere and they are in even worst mental and physical state and they take so much space and time from a active society.. I feel In this lh society people passed age 55 need to move to a city built for them and let grandkids live with them parents aren't even parents anymore they are stuck on self and "goals" and let the kids eat.. watch and do whatever and cry when they have to deal with their mess they neglected... they teach their kids 60dollar hair cuts and clothes is purpose and they can't afford it and eventually the kids starts becoming a material whore and grows having a weak personality... everyone adopted the European personality where u wake up never worry about another human u hust wake up to get paid...

I've been saying LA is dead for a few years now. Hollywood and the strip are done. You're on point with BH as well - tons of vacancies. Small pockets of LA are still fine but there has been a real mass exodus of entrepreneurs from the state. It's also not an employer friendly state and the tax rate is one of the highest in the country. I had a few friends have their stores completely smashed during the pandemic, and they were just cool hard working family owned businesses. LA needs to save itself. It starts with each person taking responsibility for their community and pulling together. Let's see how this all pans out.

Hello, from Florida. Thank you for your video but it is sad. I was born & partially raised in L.A. My mother & I had to move due to her divorce I was 12 Truth, I was homesick for L.A. for well over a decade it was like a death I could not get over. No joke. There is something special about it. There is another person here on the community comment that said that he was born & raised in San Fernando vallley he's 50. He is wanting to move elsewhere. Let me say that I hope he finds that somewhere however it's the homesickness of L.A. that this person might have a hard time with. Truth. Also some cities don't like ppl from Cali. Which is sad. I'm not kidding Money I developed diagnosed depression when I left. Very hard. Harder still is seeing all of those areas you showed on the video that are gone. It's like L.A is a shell of its former self. Wow I miss it. Florida ain't the same either.

Blocks and blocks of vacancies all over the place. Sunset x Vine too... total ghost town, it used to be crazy busy there! All the business are gone!. I am from East Hollywood but moved to Vancouver in 2020 when things were getting weird - defund the police, you can shoplift up to $950, encampments, RV cities, etc etc . Every time I return to Los Angeles I notice even more businesses totally gone. It's shocking.

Hi, Mr Hardaway! Thanks for posting this video! I live in the Cleveland, OH area and even though our businesses and malls have some stores closed- they are really still vibrant. There is also Crocker Park in Westlake, OH which has more high end stores but also has some favorites for people to shop at. I am really sorry to see your area take a nose dive like this. I remember seeing in movies how vibrant Los Angeles used to be and how they would film so many movies and TV series in that area. To see what you have shown us in the video is a real eye opener. I am sorry to say that under Governor Gavin Newsome's leadership- the state of California has really crashed badly- where crime and theft is not being prosecuted like it should be. I will keep you and everyone in your state in my prayers. Stay safe and God Bless!

*Re: Hollywood's Postmortem* Hollywood will *never* really recover after that writers strike. The cost of filming in CA is not competitive anymore. Newsom is way too late to the game. The entertainment industry has taken a major blow and has yet to recover. Regards -
@DeflatingAtheism

If Hollywood released a flop, they can recover those costs by releasing a blockbuster. If Hollywood loses the public’s trust, however, it will take a generation to recover from that loss. There were millions of American families who would go to the movies every week, come hell or high water, for family movie night, confident that there would be something there they could watch. Hollywood has lost those people.

It breaks my heart to see West Hollywood falling apart. I lived there for 3 years 12 years ago. I use to walk by the Standard all the time. It was beautiful. I pray that the Comedy Store stays forever. That building is iconic. Before it became the comedy store, it was once the famous Ciro’s nightclub. Artists like Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and more performed there. LA will always hold a special place in my heart but you’re so right, it’s truly changed.
