So this was for a contest (I didn't win) should I make more?
@brianw33825 күн бұрын
Yes. Make more. Don’t give up. Sorry you didn’t win. Your reporting was spot on. I’m born and raised here and I used to be proud to say I was from here. Not so much anymore. But for sure the RR closing the shops and Kaiser and Norton shutting down all in the same decade I believe, left a huge hole. Also corruption within the city government doesn’t help. Great job you did here.

San Bernardino native, cousins and aunties still live there, brother graduated from Cal State San Bernardino…..for decades SB was Republican and just flipped back to do so again. They share blame for SB’s malaise. Years of mismanagement of civil service positions in the city and county. Police and firefighters making nearly $120,000… In the year 2000. Pensions out of control. Police and Fire chiefs fired for their conduct getting amazing parachutes. Corruption and mismanagement in various offices in the local government. But again, for years, these were Republicans.

I am a 71.5 year old white male for point of reference. My two grandmothers lived in San Bernardino and I spent a lot of time there when I was growing up (50’s through the mid 70’s). Even 60 years ago there wasn’t a whole lot to recommend San Berdo. It was a crummy blue collar town on the edge of the desert with very poor air quality. There were like no good restaurants to eat at - it was a good thing that one of my grandmothers was a good cook. But it wasn’t nearly as bad back in my childhood as it is now. There was also nothing to do in SB when I was a kid there visiting my grandmothers. I don’t think my parents liked going there but since their widowed mothers lived there they had to put in a couple of appearances every year. IMO the best thing to do for SB is to demolish it and return it to the desert. As bad as it is now it’s only going to get worse.

I've lived in Northern San Bernardino for 16 years. While we can't deny what is being showcased in this video is correct (regarding the Downtown area) it's not a reflection of our city as a whole. There are very nice neighborhoods that exist here (Shandin Hills, Verdemont Heights, The University Dist, Arrowhead Country Club, ArrowView) We have a fantastic institution of higher learning (Cal State San Bernardino) a lot of new building going and Neighborhood Associations that work hard to keep our city stable. That said, this video serves as a reminder to those who were in charge of the legacy of failure they left behind. Better days "are" ahead, it's just going to take more time. The best thing about my city is the people who live and raise their families here.. by choice.

I owned property in San Bernardino and I kept getting fined over stupid little things, such as covering my gate with a tarp (to avoid people looking inside my backyard)or having gravel in the driveway. The city is greedy and they keep trying to find ways to extort money from the residents . That is why I sold my properties and left.

At 2:08 where did you get that stat-graph, that's a straight number graph? Theres a reason the charts use variables such as (Murders per thousand people). With a graph like yours, if my city had 1 murder last year, and 2 this year, that graph would make it appear that we have a major crime problem even though we are the safest town in the US. I'm sure San Bernardino has a lot of problems, but using a graph like that doesn't help because it conveys no actual useful information, and just scares people that are too dumb to understand statistics.

We need strong leaders to guide change, “prayer spaces” for “spiritual growth” wide running and walking trails, renewable energy for brighter streets, and better pay for security to enhance safety.
