As the Los Angeles Police Department continues to crackdown on street takeovers, KTLA got a look inside a tow yard where some vehicles are being stored after a recent sweep. Kimberly Cheng reports.

As someone who loves modifying cars and car communities. Good! Takeovers have become one of the worst things to hit the car culture in a long time. An ruins it for EVERYONE. Now us responsible car guys get heckled for our legal exhausts because these tools are making the streets more dangerous than they already are. As for everyone saying they should crush the cars, nah, that's a waste. They should be auctioned off(the ones that aren't totaled jalopies) so at least some responsible people can get them. Though with yard storage fees and the other fines, most of these cars will be abandoned and auctioned off anyway.

The owner has to pay the impound fee to get the car back. You pay towing charges on top of that. A 30 day impound can cost many thousands of dollars to get the vehicle back. If not paid, the vehicle can be sold as a lien sale.

As a car guy myself I'm glad they are takeing action. Street takeovers give us a bad wrap. We aren't all like those people who have a death wish. We have fun elsewhere when it's safe, but takeing over an intersection to do dumb stuff. It's just stupid why spend thousands on your car just to trash it. Its the definition of stupidity and I'm glad they are takeing aggressive action on thease people. I think if its a repeat offender they should have their cars confiscated and auctioned off. If the car is held together with duck tape and self tappers and the engine knocks then scrap it. But the good cars definitely deserve a better home away from foolish drivers.

I remember in the early 2000's when street racers would have their cars impounded then subsequently the court judges would have the cars crushed. Although it hurt the owner's wallet, it never really deterred street racing. Now this street takeover participants will have their vehicles impounded for 30days, that's it? There should be more consequences, such as fines and jail time, not only for the participants, but also for the spectators. IMO, if the spectators start getting fines or other consequences, then it will possibly lower or even eliminate the frequency of these street takeovers.

This is what civil asset forfeiture is meant to do. It's not meant to steal cash and property from law abiding citizens. 30 days is too short. Make the forfeiture 6 months with a hefty fine to get the car out or simply make the forfeiture permanent.
