@John Spöner that may be true but its important to remember that the cuban economy collapsed after the soviet union disbanded because of the trade embargo. Thats not to say that it isnt bad in the sence of its lack of democracy but its important to take into account the fact that cuba has been under a trade embargo for over 50 years.
@sethread89783 жыл бұрын
@@alexleach4488 I’d argue Cuba’s far more democratic than it seems from an outsider’s perspective. Both Azure Scapegoat and Viki 1999 have great videos on Cuba’s radically democratic political system, built on the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution. I’d also recommend Helen Yaffe’s book “We Are Cuba!” as it goes into intense detail explaining how Cuba’s participative democracy and the Revolution’s mass support allowed them to remain staunchly socialist through the collapse of their economy and the COMECON.
@artsyrache3 жыл бұрын
John Spöner well that also may be a matter of perspective, if you live in the US you will find a lot more Cubans who prefer America otherwise they never would have left Cuba
@sethread89783 жыл бұрын
@@artsyrache most of the Cubans that left Cuba prior to the Special Period (i.e. during the first two waves of Cuban immigration to the United State) left because they were more rich, white, connected to the US, and (generally, but not always; the Bacardí family is a good example of an exception) supported the Batista dictatorship. They hated the reforms of the revolutionary government because it seized US-owned businesses and those that supported the dictatorship, abolished rentism and landlordism, gave equal rights to Black Cubans and women, and redistributed wealth to the poorest Cubans, especially those who had been basically enslaved by the same latifundistas that fled to Miami after the Revolution.

@@AlqanmyshQaiyryr Says the Guy that actually thinks the ROC is really Democratic and not some Capitalist Presidential Dictatorship. I do not support Red China for they have become just as Imperialist and State Capitalist as it's Global adversaries. @AlqanmyshQaiyryr3 жыл бұрын
@Soldat a/s another one who thinks that the Republic of China was founded by americans, it succeeded the Qing dynasty, because the government couldn't do anything anymore, and then Soviets backed communists to turn China communist, basically. The only good thing made by the USSR was helping the Republic of East Turkestan (Soviet satellite state). Now "China" erased freedom of speech, of thinking, established brainwashing and putting people in "reeducation camps", oppressing minorities (Mongols, Uighurs, Tibetans, Koreans, etc...). Conclusion: don't talk about things you are not informed about, also your ideology is a failure, USSR is no more.
@gutty54753 жыл бұрын
@@AlqanmyshQaiyryr i cannot begin to explain how uninformed that comment is. That wasnt what he meant by "americans think they csn decide wich is the "real china"", what he meant by it is that many americans think by saying "ROC is the real china" it somehow discredits and makes the PRC less powerful. By the way you just glossed over decades of ROC incomptence, violation of human rights, wich led to the population being angry enough at the ROC to join Mao, its true that the soviets gave the PRC land and guns, but other than that, the PRC did it on their own, it wasnt just "soviets helped and in 4 years the ROC lost to farmers". Now saying that was the only good thing the ussr did is a MASSIVE understatement, and if i were to even begin to talk about all the good things the ussr did, i would be here the whole day, so instead i urge you to read economic history of the ussr, soviet democracy, and october, theres a bunch more but those are the three that i can safely source to from the top of my head. I have no idea why you put these "" in china when refering to the PRC, they are undeniably china. Its funny that you bring up freedom of speech, because one paragraph later you say that our ideology is a failure(something ill get to in a moment) because the "ussr is no more", so if a communist country seizes to exist because of weak leadership then its a result of the failures of communism, but when a communist country ensures it's safety then its also failure of communism, hypocritical isnt it? For more insight on freedom of speech in western countries, read holocaust in the 21st century(not sure if thats how the book is called), confessions of an economic hitman, and the myth of the white ploretariat (the title is an attention grabber) No, our ideology isnt "a failure", lets take the ussr as an example, in 50 years, in the face of civil war(with foreign intervetion), world war two(wich absolutely ravaged the ussr), and the cold war, they managed to go from wooden plows to space travel, (even beating the usa in it), wich it's biggest rival had 200 years of a head start, and decades of internal development, again as opposed to the ussr who never had a period of internal development since the threat of invasion was always on the horizon. And it's dissolution was solely caused because of western influence and spionage, to this day the ussr still exists as a legal entity, since it's dissolution was illegal and undemocratic

Reading more about Batista it really is a shame. He started out early before WW2 as an idealist but ultimately he became corrupted leading to his downfall. The downfall of many idealists no matter what end of the political spectrum. Makes one question whether it is ideology that corrupts the person, the realities of governance that destroys the idealism or if it is power itself that ultimately corrupts.
