I’m the ripe young age of 60 years old, and I still listen to Los Lobos every chance I get, was lucky enough to see them perform back in 1986’ Lord it’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 40 years since those good ole days of yester year.

You can call them simply the best Chicano rock band ever. I call them the most underrated American R&R band. I call them the Best band from East Los Angeles. Great R&R, traditional Mexican cumbia, norteña, corridos, and even an album of Walt Disney children's songs. Also the best American garage band. They do it all with class and integrity. Hidalgo has the best R&R voice since Steve Winwood. Three Grammys. Played at the White House for Obama. Peace Out, gentlemen.

i completely agree i describe them as lennon and mccartney and harrison and starkey los escarabajo de norte america o de ustados unidos if i got the translation right regardless i can count on them to blow my mind and then soothe it then challenge it and cool it i met them once before i was blown away or even learned there names miami beach circa 1990 they refused to come into the stephen talkhouse without due respect i wanted to hear them i went down to the walgreens to buy them the candy that their contract demanded and the talkhouse refused to get easy negotiation respect is plus they wanted to play and prove their worth as if they had to i wanted to experience them first hand as if i had to talkhouse relented as if they had to so glad i wanted what i wanted enough to not disrespect or hurt anyone else thank you los lobos for being you then and now

It was 1977 and they were just a garage band. They came to play at OCC in Costa Mesa CA. We would bring in live music to play in the quad at the college. Los Lobos Del Este De Los Angeles with their roots in Mexican music and a unique spin on al the covers they played. I would see them several times a year after that at UCI, UC riverside. Little did we know that we were listening to one of the most amazing local bands of all time. In 1980 I was a student at USC with Cesar Rosas. We hung out at the Centro Chicano on campus. He was going to teach me how to play the guitar. He was left handed I was right handed it wasn’t going to work out. For graduation, they played for the Hispanic students and their families. Still a local band, our parents loved them. I moved on to the corporate world. Los lobos began to tour. I moved to New York and the hit Will the Wolf Survive came out. I connected with that song and loved my connection to them. As the years went by they got bigger and bigger. The rest was history, Theirs, mine, ours. One time one night In America.

Kent they opened the movie “Colors” with this song, as you cruise through the barrio in a patrol car. I was 14. Waited for the credits so I could figure out who the hell this band was, then jumped on my bike & rode 7 miles to the music store to buy the only two records they had. I danced to this song at my wedding in Cuernavaca, MX in a place built by Cortez’s men five hundred years ago. It was epic

I discovered this song from the movie Colors when I saw it in the theater in 1987. I was only 14. It was not until my 30s where I really paid attention to the lyrics. I find this song ironic since the music itself is uplifting, yet the message throughout most of it is depressing, of course until the very end. Great song!

God i live that smoothe voice. This song brings tears to my eyes every time i hear it. I still find it hard to believe the Los Lonely Boys didnt mention los lobos as inspiration when creating their sound. For the love of God they sound just like them. When i heard heaven i thought it was los lobos for 6 months. But ive gotta say los lobos created that sound. Give it a name if you must but id never heard anyone with that sound before los lobos. I heard them years before they had a record deal. My dad sat in with them playing bass when i was 10 maybe younger. Its was great. When he was done and we were leaving he assured them they were going to be huge and take the world by storm. Im 52 now. Good times

I saw these guys about a year before this in Boston, MA. in a smallish club called The Channel, maybe 400-500 people were there. They did almost all the songs from their first couple of records. I cannot recall if they did this one. Doesn't matter. They were great. Very guitar-oriented. Both dudes can play the heck out of the guitar, but the big dude David Hildago, Hidalgo (?) is something special. If you watch him closely in this clip, you can see that his guitar is tuned to an open chord, rather than the standard E,A,D,G,B,E tuning used by 99% of rock guitarists. He's tuned the guitar to open A or open G and worked out all of the song's guitar lines on his own without relying on the usual patterns. Very impressive because of how melodic his leads are, at least to my ears. Los Lobos is a very tight, professional unit with each member extremely proficient at his instrument. This goes for the saxophone player as well. They deserve a lot more recognition than they have. And they really ought to be members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's a sham(e) that the band is not.
