Shot entirely on the Panasonic Lumix S1 with a 24mm and 50mm. that's it. story always wins over gear.

Had he shot it on, say, a Sony a6500, the rolling shutter would’ve rendered those bike riding, energetic shots borderline useless. Gear does matter, folks.
@laban9735 Жыл бұрын
@@alexalexis7899 Mark did not say that gear doesn't matter. He said that it's less important than the story itself. If the film had been shot on the a6500 they would just have had to find another approach to tell that same story.
@alexalexis7899 Жыл бұрын
@@laban9735 Which would have conditioned the end product, and if the current chosen language is how the filmmaker knows how to express himself, it would not be as effective. Form affects and informs story, and gear conditions form. Obsessing over gear is pointless, very much agree, especially when you have access to gear of a certain caliber - had he used a RED, or FX9, or Kinefinity it wouldn’t have mattered as what those cameras bring to the table would not make much of a difference on the final product. But there’s still a vast array of low end gear with noticeable limitations, and assuming it is not part of a symbiotic relationship with story is a considerable overlook.

@@alexalexis7899 It's just like money, when money is too low and one is thrust into poverty it can definitely impact your life in a negative way and lead to unhappiness - but once you reach a certain threshold and your survival and basic freedom is taken care of .. more won't necessarily transform your life. So it is for camera equipment, a certain threshold is required but after that its not going to make your story better .. give someone an Alexa 65 and DNA primes that doesn't have a good story, and it won't mater - this gentleman with the $2K mirrorless camera and two lenses will have the better film if he has a great story (the phenomenal editing, sound design and coloring doesn't hurt either lol)

This is really beautiful. I'm surprised though that there wasn't anything about him losing his daughter. I can only imagine how hard that would be. I feel like that was the bigger story. But, had I not known that had happened I wouldn't have questioned the storyline at all. Regardless, The shots, transitions, color, and audio were really, really well done. Lots of love in this!

Thank you so much for sharing, and congrats to Jakub! Very impressive - especially the shots (I know that you have taught us to focus on the story, Mark, but the pictures are outstanding, anyway)! I can feel the passion that has driven this work. One slight hint: probably due to my color blindness (not colorblind in particular, but having difficulties In telling apart color transitions, e . g. yellow to green, green to red etc), I am hardly able to read the „After the tragic loss…“ lower thirds on my smartphone (somewhat better on a big screen, but yet hard to read for me).
