I love how you handled this. You came in, you helped, and you didn't criticize. l hear a lot of people say they are afraid to surrender their pigs for fear of being publicly shamed by the rescue community and honestly there is no need to shame people surrendering. Just as you said it really serves no purpose other than making people reluctant to seek help and the result is that the animals get released into the wild or worse. You are proof that you can totally educate people without putting them down. You are my hero!

Yeah Saskia is great, has a great attitude about all of it. This is the attitude one should taje when doing these rescues as being agressive like a lot of people do just would give more trouble and hinder them from bettering these pet's lives. About the public shaming by the community... well, would you take a look at the comments. Even tho Saskia is great and didn't shame all the people in the comments still do shame em mercilessly and get all agressive and stuff. Sure, this is a terrible living condition they kept the guinea pigs in but by being all agressive and shaming these people they're actually kinda hindering more of these guinea pigs from having a better life

Hi everyone!!! Ursula here 🤗 I just want to say THANK YOU for all the amazing constant support. Without it we wouldn't have an amazing channel to help advocate for all these amazing little friends! With that said, I felt that I needed to chime in and say that even though this family did not have the best knowledge and accomodations for their guinea pigs they were by no means terrible people. I spoke directly with them prior to picking them up and they were extremely thankful to us for helping them out. Originally their intentions were completely innocent but unfortunately the situation grew out of hand like most of those who come to us. This is just one of the MANY groups we have taken in the last month. Many are not spoken of but it is vital for us to get the word out that this does happen... often. I know how difficult it is to watch this considering most of you love and spoil your piggies but we have to remember that the only way to spread the word is through kindness and understanding. I hope this family visits the rescue soon and sees how well their herd is doing. It will also encourage and help the many people watching that there is no shame in reaching out for help. I learned from Saskia early on that kindness and compassion is the only way that we will help more animals. No words are truer than that when it comes to the animal rescue world. Much love ❤️ Ursula

Plenty of people with severe mental issues can care for animals, even after a bad mental episode. So if someone cannot improve the situations of the animals at all, these animals should not be forced to live in these conditions.

Rabbit food (pellets) are "poisonous" for guinea pigs. Piggies are like humans--Vitamin C supplementation is needed, as their bodies are incapable of synthesizing the vitamin. I used to raise the critters--some for pets, some for show. They need specialized Guinea Pig pellets, along with fresh food & the occasional pine branch (pines are high in vit C).

Saskia from Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue You saw more than I did, since you were there and I wasn't, and also because I'm totally blind, but it sure as heck felt like, if not intensional neglect, at least a whole lot of not caring. It was like they had better things to do than educate themselves about guinea pigs. I know a lot of that may be because of the bull pet stores feed customers about how to take care of piggies, but some of it has to just be an attitude of oh, they'll be fine with eating bird and rabbit food. At least, that's the impression I got from listening to the video. Also, for goodness sake, there was a rat in their area! I think it was dead, given that I didn't hear anything that sounded even close to panic, but still. Gross! I know you get further with kindness than with critisism, but ugh! I just want to smack those folks. I care for my dogs better than they cared for those poor piggies! Thank God for the LA Guinea Pig Rescue!

this is a great thing. Even tho these conditions are shameful, and the owners should be scolded heavily (omg large beetle sized maggots, and a dead rat) it would not be effective strategy. These people are irresponsible, but they don't want the guinea pigs to suffer. Rescuers want to make it easy for people to call for help, and scolding and shaming is just gonna keep people away. no one wants all that negative attention (even if they do deserve it).

Kids aren’t developmentally able appreciate, replicate or assume the responsibilities of an adult, let alone a parent. It’s not the child’s fault he gets bored, it’s the adults responsibility to be aware that a child’s enthusiasm will naturally wear off and to only get pets if the parents acknowledge that they are 100% responsible for the animals care and the kids provide a supportive role, not the main role.

Maybe if you were a judgemental type, you might think that this lady spends all her time at the salon and sitting by the pool all day because she looks so lovely all the time, but here she is getting down and dirty yet again with God's adorable furry potatoes who need her help. All of you rescue people are just the best!

This made me really sad, my guinea pig ended up having babies because we were told we adopted 2 boars but they ended up being a boar and a sow, we didn’t bother sexing them because we were told they were both boars and that was our mistake. Once I found out our sow was pregnant (I noticed her getting a lot bigger and saw her belly move) we (me and my family) researched how to make sure her and her babies stayed healthy and that she was comfortable through the pregnancy. She had a successful delivery with both her and her babies being healthy and gave birth to 2 baby boys and a little girl. I made sure I researched the boys maturity period so they didn’t impregnate my sows. If this is the same situation these people were in they should’ve done the same. This was 2 years ago and the father passed away due to an underlying condition and our babies and mama are all happy and healthy, we were in contact with a vet through it all (to make sure the father’s condition wasn’t going to be potentially present in the babies and that it wasn’t contagious) and have had no more baby accidents since. If you are in a similar situation, contact your local vet and/or do plenty of research so it doesn’t get this bad please.

@nightmare50224 жыл бұрын
@@gbjanuary you don’t have to go to a vet to sex your guinea pigs, we only went to the vet to make sure that my Guinea Pig who died to an underlying condition didn’t pass it onto our other pigs, I sexed them myself using internet research, it’s still completely preventable.

I was afraid of asking my family about surrendering our hamster (when we had him) bc I felt embarrassed about it and how we couldn’t take amazing care of him. Eventually we knew we had to surrender him to a rescue or something, so we gave him to my uncle, who has some other hamsters already, and now he will be much happier I hope. We kinda realized after we moved that we didn’t have much space for him and not enough time to care for him, even if we loved him a bunch,, so we decided to give him away. Thank you for rescuing these guineas,, you’re a wonderful person.

So I do have appreciation for this channel, for showing me how much work a guinea pig needs, and that I personally am not willing to put in the work. I thought they were super low maintenance, but they’re not. I’d rather know I’m not right to be an owner & avoid making a mistake or the animal being unhappy - and leave the adoptable critters available for someone willing to put in all the needed time & energy for them
