Petsmart has been seen with piles of beta fish cups in trash bins behind their stores. We're tired of the intakes all having health issues. Rescues cannot keep affording the vet bills. PLEASE share this video with all chain store sites and social media pages. Make them listen!

I went into Petsmart and none of the guinea pigs had hay. I asked to speak to the manager and she said that they had been really busy. I told her that there was no excuse for that. I told her that they need continous hay to prevent GI stasis.

I bought a female piggy from PetSmart in Chambersburg,PA about 4 years ago. She had a URI when I got her. At 3 years old, she had bladder cancer and was on metacam for 6 months at that point, she had to be put to sleep, her bladder was full of cancer and could not urinate. My second female from PetSmart also had an upper respiratory infection, which my vet treated. I've had her for 8 months now, but I'm afraid there are going to be other problems that haven't presented yet. I bought a male Cuy piggy from Petco in Chambersburg 4 years ago and he had an upper respiratory infection when I got him, it was treated and at 3 years began squeaking when he would urinate. My vet took X-rays and said there is something on the outside of his bladder, but isn't sure what it is at this point, because it's not the common problem that's found in Guinea pigs. He is one of the Guinea pigs that Petco was selling as "a different breed of guinea pig" my vet said it maybe something genetic. Overall, I have bought 5 guinea pigs from PetSmart and Petco that have all been sick and had genetic problems that cost me, literally over $6,000.00 in vet bills and many passed between 2 and 3.5 years old. In Pennsylvania, I haven't been able to find any reputable breeders and the local humane society rarely has Guinea pigs. So I'm stuck buying sick piggies from PetSmart and Petco that cost me a fortune, just to live short lives. I'm still trying to find reputable breeders somewhere near me. I'm checking Maryland now, but pet stores need to stop selling sick guinea pigs!!

These pet stores should not be allowed to sell animals if they can't properly care for them. I got two guinea pigs from pet smart in Abington PA and one of them died 😢 It was only a few days after bringing him home I realized he was sick. They reimbursed me for the very expensive vet bill but I felt horrible. I did everything I could to keep him alive and he had two years of the best life I could give him. My other little guy is going strong and healthy

This is what people need to hear about these big stores selling these poor babies. I'm glad the owners are concerned and getting help for any sick piggies. We're actually working on launching a campaign here in the UK to try stop this happening...wish us luck! Pets at Home here is the same as Petco in every way. I just had to treat one of my petco pigs for an eye infection, she seems highly prone to them, and is going blind... I'm just glad she doesn't have a bloat issue like one of my late petco pigs

Another pig has a sniff snarf issue, she's had antibiotics, didn't help... She doesn't seem sick, in fact, she seems healthier than most, and smarter... I just try to completely avoid her when I'm sick, I don't want to risk it

I got my son 2 Guinea pig babies from our local family owned pet store. The next morning I immediately noticed one baby had an eye that was crusty and she was sneezing. I called the store and they accused us of having the piggies housed next to a drafty door (weirdly random) and said it was allergies from using fleece bedding instead of Carefresh. I asked them about antibiotics after doing research about Her having a URI. They basically said don’t worry because if she dies there is a 7 day replacement policy!!! Giving up, I immediately got her into an exotic vet who diagnosed an URI and prescribed antibiotics. That was a week ago. Both babies are sick now and being treated. Shockingly the Pet store stopped taking our calls. We were not demanding they pay the vet bills at all. I just wanted them to know what the vet said because there were still two other babies there that had to be sick too. I hope they don’t die.

It's sad that Petco sells sick guineas I bought 2 that was supposed to be girl my daughter was getting worried cause 1 was getting big thought she was sick later on she ended up giving birth we went to Petco they said they would take them but I couldn't have my money back so I took them home I didn't know how to tell the gender and more babies came along we ended up with around 40 guinea pigs it was pretty crazy

So not the same animal but I rescued a ball python who was a baby living in a cage with no hides just water, broke my heart. There is a sun conure at the same location… I’d give anything to take him home but I just can’t afford their price but he looks terrible, and he’s all alone, pulling all his feathers out and such. Breaks my heart. I’d give anything to have the money to rescue him, but I just can’t pay a thousand dollars for him. Not only do they charge insane prices they don’t care about them. The only pet store I live near me happens to be pet supply plus, and it’s a franchise but the one near me doesn’t hesitate to get the animals in a vet immediately instead of having to call corporate and wait for the approval despite the fact they could die by then

its such a sad situation those who don't know there are piggies in rescues and/or shelters go to the big box stores for their small pets and their accessories but are sold expensive sick pets. It almost feels like a conspiracy with them also having the inhouse vets and if they are lucky the sick pig will be returned maybe even without a refund and then they can get a 2nd fee for the same pig even if its a smaller adoption fee vs a purchase fee. I wish all shelters had small pets our Sheriff run county shelter doesn't take anything but cats and dogs we have to find them online facebook groups and such or go to the county shelter an hour drive south to get rescues. I have a pet store reject it was 2 sisters one had a URI when they were given to the rescue i got them from the other sister had eye issues which plagued her all 4 yrs i had her. She passed last year but her sister (the one who had just a URI) is still with us in the old ladies cage.

@@hayleygoogle7831 oh yes i know, we call them deaths at home. Ive adopted a few rabbits from the dumping/adoption area because of health issues. My lionhead was given in as he needed a dental that the owner couldn’t afford, the store didn’t have a vets4pets so he sat there for 2 months waiting for someone to adopt him and get it done!

Not only do they get them from Guinea pig mills, where these poor babies are in such horrid conditions- but they also advertise them as great first pets without informing buyers of their true needs, when it comes to housing, feeding and basic care. It makes me so mad! They should be banned from selling guinea pigs. Both Petco and Petsmart
